Boldness and the Bible

This to me, you know, you want me to be honest how I feel?

The only thing that connects us is probably the most important thing in the world, isn't it?

We believe the same message, and we're looking forward to the same Lord coming.

And it's such, you know, being an Adventist, young people, is a tremendous blessing.

Being a Seventh-day Adventist is a tremendous blessing because we are a worldwide movement.

And what a joy when I go to breakfast this morning and I sit down and there's no other, nobody around except Pastor Todd and his dear wife, December, and we're talking, we're talking, we're saying where we're from, where we've been, who we know, and then all of a sudden he says, and I was at Lackish digging there with Dr.

Hazel from Southern Adventist University.

She's at Southern right now, my 20-year-old Esther.

When you know somebody who knows somebody that you know, it's like you know them even though you didn't know them.

And that is what is so amazing about being a part of the family of God.

Now I just want to check to see that we have the slides up here ready.

Chris is an amazing young man and I appreciate your introduction.

I mean, let me tell you as well, I mean, I'm not prepared like I'd like to be for this weekend, but I've done my best and under the circumstances, and I'll do my best and ask the Lord to do the rest.

I'm so glad to be here with you and to share really from my heart.

You see, boldness and the Bible is a topic that is really close to my heart.

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the Word of God.

And I've discovered that the Word of God is still under attack today.

In fact, it's under more attack because it's a subtle attack.

And we need to cling to the Word of God because that was the basis of the Protestant Reformation.

The Word of God is what made freedom and freedom of conscience and liberty and knowledge and the America that we know.

These things were all based upon the knowledge of the Scriptures.

So today, I don't know if you can see it too well, if there's a possibility to turn down the lights, I guess it might help, but if not, no problem.

I just want to share with you briefly, today is the 31st of October.

And yesterday I was sharing with the young people that actually Halloween is nothing, there's nothing nice about it really.

Halloween has to do with death and the worship of the dead and of spiritism.

And 1 thing that kind of really struck me as I'm coming to share with the young people here and everybody else, I think it's harder today to grow up a young person than ever before.

Today the spiritism and the demonic forces that are attacking us are unprecedented.

So I really feel for you and ask that the Lord would give us victory and power in His name." And so I shared with you, there's actually a connection between Halloween and the Reformation.

If this light wants to go off, I don't know.

It might make me disappear, but that might be a good thing too.

And, you know, trick or treating and all of this, and then the Roman Catholic Church has Halloween, and it's the eve of the Day of the Saints, and that's what today is for the Roman Catholics.

And it's not something that is Christian, it's not something that is biblical.

The Word of God says in Ephesians 5.11, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.

And you know we may say, well, you know, I'm not going to get involved in this, but let me tell you young people, the devil has with his demons an attack just designed for you.

And our only safety, as we were talking about this yesterday, last night, is to really understand the power of prayer.

And I spoke about Roger Mourneau and how he had been involved in Spiritism and just about was able to come out through the power of God and through the power of His Word, demonstrating that the battle for your life, for the life of the Christian is an amazingly ferocious battle.

And it's an unseen battle, so it's almost as if it doesn't really affect us, or we don't realize it.

But it goes on at the level of the mind, and our affections, and our allegiance, and whether we're willing to be fully committed to our relationship with Jesus.

Mornio, or Roger Mornio, has written these books.

And I don't know, those of you that have read them, I'm sure you found them a great blessing.

But 1 of the things that really strikes you as you read these stories of how he would pray and God would answer his prayers was his intimate knowledge of the Word of God and his belief in the Word of God.

That what it says was actually what God's Word wanted to do.

And I really appreciated Brother Todd's introduction from the youth department of the conference here in the Gulf States.

Wouldn't it be great, Wouldn't it be great if at 15 you could understand and share righteousness by faith?

And I pray that we can understand that the Reformation that Martin Luther went and nailed his 95 Theses there on in the castle door of the church in Wittenberg in 1517, October 31, that was done because it was a Catholic festival where everybody was coming for the All Saints Day, which would have been November the 1st, and so he knew that there would be the major flow of traffic from all over Germany and possibly Europe to come to that festival.

And so the beginning of the Reformation was really a turning to true religion.

That's really what the battle is all about.

Are we saved through the church or through the Word of God?

That kind of battle is still going on today.

And as I said yesterday, that there are only 2 churches on earth right now.

How many churches does the Bible describe in the book of Revelation?

And there's a faithful woman, and there's an unfaithful woman.

So there's only 2 churches on earth today.

And you know, it really boils down to the Roman Catholic Church and the pinnacle of the Protestant Reformation, the Seventh-day Adventist movement.

You see, if we do not understand that, And if we do not understand our history and where we're coming from, we won't understand the mission that God has for us today.

There's a lot that I'd like to share with you today, so forgive me if I get a little bit detailed with history.

I pray that I can be hidden and the Lord would speak and this would just be like a tip of an iceberg to encourage you to do your own study.

There's nothing like feeding yourself and studying for yourself.

I hope I can just inspire you a little bit and with some sources so you can go directly to them and find for yourself.

You know, talking about righteousness by faith, which I believe is what the Reformation is really all about, I have this book, precious book.

It's the original 1926 edition of Christ, our righteousness by the General Conference President of the time, A.G.

And I just want to share with you a quotation from the Spirit of Prophecy that he has here on page 100.

And I just want to inspire you, especially the young people, to understand what true religion is all about.

True religion is not about rules and regulations and trying to keep them.

True religion is about knowing Jesus, whom to know is life eternal.

And so Ellen White writes about this danger that we in particular, Seventh-day Adventists, have of just clinging to our doctrines and thinking that that will save us.

And so she writes in Desire of Ages, no less, page 309 and 310, the same danger still exists today.

She's talking about the hypocrisy and the selfishness and the greed that the Pharisees had.

And she says the same danger still exists today.
