I was intrigued with the title of the Sabbath school lesson.

This is where our Advent Hope is renewed every Sabbath.

Jesus is coming, the blessed hope, that's the Advent hope.

And I appreciate 1 of the announcements, especially, I appreciate all the announcements, but especially 1, And I do not have prophetic vision, but I think it's very appropriate that our topic this morning should be regarding your work in Malibu.

My son lives there, and it does take an hour and a half.

So I appreciate the spirit of Advent Hope, obviously.

I enjoy coming here and I like the purpose of Advent Hope.

It can get sometimes a little selfish when in reality God calls people not just to be saved.

God calls people to be missionaries, to share their blessed hope.

Moses said, God, If I can't have these people, no point in me being there.

And I think he was not just using it as a homiletical skill there.

He was so concerned about the salvation of others.

This morning I'd like to share a few thoughts along that line from God's Word.

When my oldest son was 7 years old, I was studying in the dining room on the table, sitting there, And he kind of snuck up to me, kind of quietly began to whisper as he kind of pushed in a little at the table.

And he whipped something, well not whipped, he actually kind of moved it out of his pocket kind of gingerly.

And held it like that to me on the table.

He has a brother, see, and a little sister too.

He found a little chocolate, so he thought, and he wanted it for himself.

And I probably would have let him have it for himself had he not said so, because I want to destroy that selfish nature, catch it early.

So I said, I'm sorry, it's kind of small, but better share it at least with your brother.

And so gingerly he went and broke it in half and I said, you let him choose which piece.

And they ate what they thought was a chocolate and walked away.

A few minutes later, he came back and says, Dad, chocolate didn't taste very good.

I said, no, when we're so selfish about it, usually it doesn't taste good.

I said, but where did you find the chocolate?

Sure, it's over there in the garbage can.

It was wrinkled, we straightened it out, and we start reading on that.

It was a busy day in the office but what if he had eaten the whole thing At least it was 50-50 little brother.

And I thought about that now how you're gonna work that in the soul winning.

The Lord has given us the medicine that would heal the ills of the world.

But when we keep it to ourselves, it'll make us sick.

The healthy Christian is the sharing Christian who shares the love that Jesus is reflecting in his soul and in his character.

You know compared with evangelism everything else in the church it's like rearranging their furniture when the house is on fire.

In Matthew 4 you know that's the chapter that deals with Jesus' temptation.

Verse 18 and 19, Jesus meets some fishermen.

This is not our main text, but it's just kind of the introduction.

In Matthew 4, 18 and 19, Jesus walking by the Sea of Galilee saw 2 brethren, Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers, or fishermen.

And he said unto them, Follow me, I will make you fishers of men whatever went into all the tricks that went into fishing for fish also crossed over into fishing for men And so these were good prospects to become evangelist and then a little further down it says and Going on from then she saw other 2 brethren James the son of Zebedee and John his brother And he called them to be fishers of men How wonderful now there's a story in the Bible in Acts 3 that illustrates some inspiring principles About sharing one's faith, And I would like to read those verses 1 through 9, and then we'd like to go through them together.

They've given up their fishing on the lake.

Went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple, which is called beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple.

Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

And Peter fastening his eyes upon him with John said, Look on us.

And he gave heed unto them expecting to receive something of them.

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have I give thee in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

And he took him by the right hand, and he lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

And he, Leaping up and stood and walked and entered with them into the temple Walking and leaping and praising God He and those 2 apostles had something to worship about Sometimes the Christian life gets kind of empty, even worship gets empty.

But not if you are in the furrow of this world's needs and have made connections to those who need the Lord and do not have him.

Worship becomes meaningful when you have people there who want to have Jesus and who need Jesus in their lives.

Now we like to go through this story and get some of the points.

Number 1, verse 1, John and Peter went to the temple at the hour of prayer.

Now we need to understand something about the hour of prayer.

That was a time for 2, 000 years God's people came and brought the lamb and sacrificed the lamb the blood of the lamb was shed in faith for the coming Messiah.

For 2, 000 years, almost for 4, 000 years, because Adam and Eve began outside of Eden, the sacrificial system, pointing forward to the 1 who would come, the Lamb of God, whose blood would be shed for the salvation of the world.

At the ninth hour, the hour of power, the hour of prayer, the hour that pointed to Jesus Christ's sacrifice on Calvary, that's the hour has power.

In Jesus Christ, his presence, his blood, his sacrifice, his love poured out for a sinful world, that's where the power lies.

They came at the right hour that was foreshadowed by 2, 000, almost 4, 000 years of sacrifice and worship.

That was the magic hour, the powerful hour, when Jesus would be there to again do what he's done through all the ages, to touch man's hearts and lives and draw them into his own life and towards the kingdom of God.

The blood of Jesus was in the hour of prayer.
