When Prophets Fail

This morning the sermon is entitled, When Prophets Fail.

On Thursday night we covered a topic called, When Kings Fail.

The premise of that message was that we need to be sober to the realities around us.

That when the system fails it is often then when God calls you to stand up.

Instead of complaining and then to write comments on online and then it is your turn to stand up and to fill in the gaps.

Especially when you have 16 chapters of failure of kings, and kings, and kings, and kings, you have in Chapter 17 and Elijah.

Last night's premise was, for those of you who were here last night, what did we cover last night?

What are some fortune cookie lessons you learned from last night.

Carith was a place of trial for Elijah, okay?

It takes living with someone to actually get your faith to be real.

You wrote it in your, no, you have a book and you're writing it, awesome.

Meditate upon the word, memorize the word, study and teach and?

No, okay, you must be like a genius in here.

She deserves a bachelor's degree right now.

It's tempting to go to the Jordan, but the Lord says I will bless you there.

The person that you stand before is your God.

Sometimes the Lord speaks to us through the grave.

There's a voice that's coming from somewhere, and I don't know.

Sometimes the Lord and something about raisins.

Ravens yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, Not raisins, ravens.

She was listening to the sermon, I was not listening to her.

When the waters fail, the Lord is calling you as well.

This morning, the sermon is entitled, what, 1 more time?

Please turn your Bibles to 1 Kings Chapter 18.

Let's have a word of prayer to get started.

Father in heaven, you have blessed this bumbling idiot in many times past.

Father, I ask that you bless us 1 more time.

The words of my mouth and the thoughts may be of heaven's origin.

And Lord, baptize the ears of those that hear, including the speaker himself, that our ears may learn to trust and ultimately to be obeyed.

Verse 46, the Bible says, And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah, and he girded up his loins, and he ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Here you see in chapter 18 and 19 you see a juxtaposition between 2 experiences of Elijah.

Chapter 18 is all about the courage of Elijah.

In chapter 18, he killed the prophets of Baal.

In chapter 18, he's on top of a mountain.

And for this week's series, we're not going to cover his Mount Carmel experience, we're going to cover the experience after his Mount Carmel experience.

And it's often that after the spiritual highs that we have, that we experience a low.

It's after you build the ark, and you're pounding away, and you're preaching the gospel message, that after the whole flood of incidents has happened, that you're tempted to take a drink of fermented grape juice.

It's often after you cross the Red Sea that Miriam was tempted to complain.

It was David, after winning all his battles, that he stuck around and he fell.

It was after Israel's prosperity that Solomon fell.

And you see all these pastors or presidents or even professors.

It's after the apex of their career, just on the threshold of the next step, that they fail.

And we see this in Adventism all the time.

It's like we hold our breath all Sabbath.

Amen, amen, hallelujah, happy Sabbath, happy Sabbath, happy Sabbath, 5 30, 4 40, 5 46, 6 30.

Let's go do everything that we couldn't do for 24 hours.
