Reviving Country Life Ministry in Dominican Republic

Eternal God and our Father, we are so thankful to be here this evening.

We pray in a special way that your Holy Presence will be with us.

We thank you and praise your name for the God that you are.

And I pray that as we spend these moments together this afternoon, that Your name will be glorified.

God is able to turn our sorrows into joy.

As I mentioned some 10 years ago, I came here just to give you a little background.

I was born in Jamaica and at age 15 I was baptized.

I won't get into the details what was going on the first 15 years of my life, but I, let's just say, I can't believe that I am doing what I'm doing today.

Just because of some activities I was involved in since I was 11 years old.

But as I mentioned, I was baptized at age 15.

And 2 years in the church, I started getting involved with Bible work and ministry.

In fact, I preached my first sermon at 17, and the pastor of our church thought I should consider theology.

So I started out at the university there in Jamaica, the Adventist University, but while the first couple of months pretty much going into the first year, I started reading the book Ministry of Feeling.

The book education and interestingly 1 of my friends who was, he was in his second year of theology, he had this assignment with a book education and he asked me, let's read this book together, help me read this, I need to do a book report, give me your thoughts on the book.

And as I was going through the book education, I saw some things that I've never seen before and the book ministry feeling and that troubled my mind a lot and I was wondering how can we do more of what is written in these books and I I didn't know much about our institutes and this wasn't, these things were not taught in the university there and I was troubled, let's put it that way, for those months.

Somehow I, by the time I was 18, close to 19, I got a call to go to the Cayman Islands to assist a pastor there and to do LE work, Literature Evangelist.

So I was doing that in the Cayman Islands.

By that time, I was just about 21, and something miraculous happened.

When I arrived in the Cayman Islands, there was a lady that wanted to talk to me.

But the pastor asked me to preach that very night.

I arrived on a Wednesday in the Cayman Islands and he asked me to preach.

So I preached and the lady wanted to talk to me.

And So at the end, she asked me, what are my plans for the future, et cetera.

And I started telling her that I was studying theology, but I really am interested in what I was reading in the book, Ministry of Feeling, in the book, Education.

And she said, you know, I know of several institutes in the United States.

And she told me about Uchee Pines, Wildwood, Heartland, et cetera.

And I was praying, Lord, what would you have me to do?

And somehow, I will say this, Uchee Pines didn't look like the most enticing institute based on what was on the website.

The other institutes looks a little bit, they looked very much more the pictures.

But the website, I'm sure, is so much better today.

But at that time, you know, for me, if someone was going by the look, perhaps I would be in another place.

But when I prayed, I was very clear that the Lord wanted me to be here.

I came and I'd like to read a verse with you as we begin.

I really love this chapter and a couple of verses.

It says, for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, what it says?

And then verse 13, how then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?

And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?

And how shall they heard without a preacher?

And how shall they preach except they are sent as it is written?

How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good news.

This is a very interesting passage because We are called to reach the world, amen?

We are called to take the message to the world, but as we've heard this morning, the importance of really knowing God for ourselves, and here we are seeing in this passage here that those who call upon Christ but how can they call upon him whom they have not believed?

How can they believe if they have not heard?

Okay, So we need someone or a preacher to preach so that people can hear and eventually can believe and call upon the name of the Lord and can be saved as well.

That is God's plan for us and I really love this.

I enjoy this so much to know that God has a plan for His children.

So, I am not preaching, so I will be just sharing the rest of the story.

Yeah, I'm up here, I'm feeling like I want to preach, but I can't.

And interestingly, this morning I was just smiling to myself when the preacher was using this, because this was the first quotation or the first paragraph in the book ministry of feeling.

In the chapter, our example, what it says, Our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world as the unwearyed servant of man's necessity.

He took our infirmities and bare our sickness that he might minister to every need of humanity.

And then in the burden of disease and wretchedness and sin he came to remove.

It was his mission to bring to men complete restoration.

He came to give them health, peace, and perfection of character.

And as the preacher was using that, I was like, wow, it's in my presentation.

But I wanted to just look back over it with you, the 3 things he mentioned so clearly.

And as we see it here, that it is God's plan to really bring about restoration to humanity.

And as He does, as He does that work for us, it is our privilege to help others in the process.

So I remember the days that was the Uchipine sign 10 years ago.

And I thought, wow, what am I doing here?

I didn't know anything about this kind of work.

And spending time there in the classroom, starting to meet new friends, thinking about just amazing things that I knew that God was about to do in my life.

And I'd like you to take notice of this friend here.

And, you know, I was just in Honduras in the month of May and I'll tell a little bit about that later and what's, he's from Honduras and what's going on in Honduras.

Anyway, we were studying together, enjoying the moments, the teachers, you heard from Sister Lydia yesterday, 1 of my teachers and many others were here, but the moments that we spent, you know, we men of Shiloh, we use that term a lot, We had a lot of men that were at Shiloh at the time at the boys' dorm.

Then we would go out also to spend time as a group.

Here we are with Lydia, Sister Lydia, going for HEWs in different churches, etc., visiting all the ministries.

And I'll tell you, early on when I started, I was thinking, why am I doing all of this?

But then it's like the Lord was saying, What did you read in the book education?

And I had to go back in the book education.

Not knowing anything about self-supporting work, these ministries, but on the farm, I enjoy the watermelons.
