Medical Missionary Work Panel

Dear Heavenly Father, we are grateful for your abundant blessings and your wonderful mercies to us.

You are a great and awesome God, and we are grateful that you have allowed us to be alive at such a time as this.

And as we have the opportunity of gathering together on this high Sabbath, we ask that your presence be with us.

That as we are here and we are in your house today that we may recognize that we are in the presence of the Almighty God and that that understanding, that recognition may guide all we do and we think and we say here and now.

And Lord, we ask for you to draw us ever closer to you that we may be just like Jesus and that you may work out the abundance of your grace and mercies in our lives.

This we pray and we thank you for answering according to the mighty power of the name of Jesus.

Well, first of all, what we want to do is we want to introduce our various panelists that are here.

And we want to make sure that the microphones are working.

Let's just introduce ourselves, our name, and where we're coming from.

And Everybody up here is somebody that has presented at least some part of the seminar during this last week.

My name is Mark Sandoval, and if I'm unfamiliar to you, you're not from around here.

I am the president of Uchee Pines Institute, and I live about, I don't know, 400 yards from here.

I came to Uchee Pines in 2009 through 2011 And I left from here and I'm doing mission in Costa Rica and Central America.

I live in British Columbia at the moment.

I work with Light and that's where I'm based currently.

I serve in the Inter-American Division for Light.

I came here 2007 to 2011 And from that time I've been involved in missions in mostly Latin America.

My name is Norman McNulty and I was here this week as a visitor, as 1 of the speakers, but also I consider myself an alumnus in some respect as I was 13 years old when I was here for a year in 1990, 91.

And I currently live in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

It's about an hour and a half south of Nashville.

And I also go around and share messages in churches and places like this also.

I am the husband of 1 wife, father of 4 children, Jared, Kayla, Caleb, and Jada.

It's called PTH Ministries, a Bible-based ministry of preaching, teaching, and healing.

It was mentioned earlier at the beginning of the week that I was also a director at Toccoa Missions.

I'm no longer a director there so I just want to bring up that little point of clarification but presently we are a family ministry and we reside in the New England area up in the cold Northeast and we're seeking to bring the warmth of Jesus there.

My name is Alberto Rogak, and I originally come from Serbia, but I lived in the States for 18 years, and I came to Ucha Pines in 2011, stayed there, stayed here for 2 years, and then we moved to Europe to start our work there in Serbia and Croatia.

That's about 8, 000 to 10, 000 miles from here.

My family and I are working there and trying to spread the gospel through health and publishing books and everything else that goes with it.

I was a student in 2005 and staff after the words for a couple years, and now working with Saving Health Seminars.

Well, hello, my name is Lydia Seda, part of Saving Health Seminars.

Amy and I left here in 2010, and we ministered in Huntsville.

We received a call from the central church in Huntsville.

And then we've been to Puerto Rico, and then back to Athens, Alabama.

The Lord has landed us now in Guntersville, Alabama, where we are residing.

We're glad to have each of you with us at this time.

And I want to begin a question, and this is open for anybody to answer, and maybe several people to answer.

The first question that I want to ask is how do you see the relationship between the arm and the body, the medical missionary work and the gospel ministry currently in Adventism?

Well, before I left Uchee Pines I had opportunities to take students out and to go and do health weekends, and we did a lot of those, especially in the last 7 years that I was here.

And after we left, what I find that it's, the arm is not really connected to the body, and it's struggling to be connected at this point.

But I think that things are coming together.

I think that connection is, you know, those bionics are being, you know, put in there and it's going to get real strong.

I believe that people are looking for health in the world in general.

And when you are not an extremist, people will love you for the health message.

And when you move along the steps, starting on the physical side, always worry about the individual, the person.

Then you enter into the mental and spiritual.

That's where the effort seems to have positive approach.

The church itself, in Central America we've been working with the union, UCAS, it used to be Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Now Nicaragua became independent from the union and they are their own union.

But we're now working with Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

And you can see how it's a struggle to get started and to get in, and people have this idea of some of us because of being extreme.

And when we are extreme, we create fault to us.

We have to learn to mingle with the people as we desire their good and be sympathetic, fulfilling their needs.

To add to the statements already made, these points are very true.

Now, the reason why The Bible has deliberate recordings of the healing works of Jesus for our lessons.

So if again I look at Matthew 9, Jesus started his medical missionary work on the spiritual, but then he closed it with the physical.

If I go to John 5, Jesus starts the work with the vice versa.

He does the physical, and then he closes with the spiritual.

So I think, you know, as medical missionaries, what we need is discernment and not to create a law for things to be done only 1 way.

Sometimes we're going to have to start physical because of where the people are, and they may be very close to spiritual things.

So as a result of that, start physical, minister to their needs, win their confidence, then we can go ahead and introduce spiritual.

But then there are some people that have such heavy, tremendous burden spiritually, and 9 tenths of diseases start in the mind.

So sometimes for the remedies to even have the impact that it needs to have on that precious soul, they need to hear those words, thy sins be forgiven thee.

So we need discernment when we do the work so that way we can know when is it appropriate to start spiritual, when is it appropriate to start physical.

What I'm seeing is definitely what I would think would be called progress.

And I don't like Amen just because they invited me.

I like Amen because of what they stand for.

Mills and he told me about Adventist Medical Evangelism Network, Amen, You know, that conference is filled with people who are medical practitioners who are becoming more and still more open-minded to see how can we bring the third angel's message into our practice, into our clinics, and so on.

You can't call that anything else but heavenly progress.

So, you know, it's always easy to talk about the inspired problems.

What we need to do is talk more about inspired solutions.

And I believe that these type of efforts is God clearly showing that he is touching hearts, he is working on people, and he is looking to bring the arm back connected to the body, and I'm thankful for that.

There are places where the medical work is almost all that the Church has going.

In those situations, it's a strong influence.
