Seven Trumpets and the Role of Islam- Part 1

Our Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and Your mercy to us, and I pray that You'll bless us as we get into this subject.

It's a crucial subject because we're at the end of time, and we just want to praise Your name for Your goodness and for the great history of this church and its prophetic insights.

And I pray this will bolster our faith as well as help us be able to explain it to others.

I really wanted to spend some time today on the book of Revelation and the sanctuary because that is where, and you may want to take notes because I don't have handouts, so for whatever that's worth, department R get the recording.

By the way, we make, speakers make no money on recordings.

Basically the ABC and the people that record them take that money and they put it back in more recording equipment.

So I just want everybody to know that this isn't about me making any money.

You pay my salary through the tithe, so I'm happy for that.

There's an obvious fact about Revelation that sometimes goes missed as people get into the book of Revelation.

And that is the very first chapter is the introduction right into the heavenly sanctuary.

At Seventh-day Adventist we are unique in the concept of the heavenly sanctuary.

I think it was the early church understood it well.

But what you haven't had in the Protestant Reformation was a return to the concept that the heavenly sanctuary is a reality in the plan of salvation.

And of course you don't understand the heavenly sanctuary unless you first of all understand the earthly sanctuary.

Because the earthly sanctuary is the symbol, it's the It's the temporary picture.

And when I learned this some years ago, it really unlocked the book of Revelation for me in a way that has been such a blessing to me.

I will tell you that context is just about everything.

The reason there is so much doctrinal mess in the world, not only sometimes in the Adventist church, but outside the Adventist church, is because of the thing that people ignore the context.

You can make something say just about anything if you take it out of its context.

So when you're introduced into the book of Revelation, it automatically introduces you to Jesus in a priestly garment.

And the first place you see Jesus is where?

So do I know where I'm at in the heavenly sanctuary?

Now some people say, well, you know, there's no heavenly sanctuary.

I'm sure that there's a lot I don't understand about the heavenly sanctuary, but the apostles called it a copy, a shadow, and there's 1 other 1 there.

Yeah, a type or pattern, that's the word I was looking for.

How many ladies though would wear a pattern?

But That pattern becomes very important to be able to understand the final product that you're going to get.

If I held my hand and you could see the shadow on here of my hand, what would the shadow tell you about my hand?

It would tell you some things maybe about its dexterity.

But there's a lot of things it wouldn't tell you.

If you've never seen my hand before, right, and you've only seen the shadow, there's a lot of things it won't tell you.

So you've got a shadow, got a pattern, a shadow, and then you got the word copy.

Now we're familiar with that because we live in a world of copy machines.

When I first started out in the ministry, Now this will really date me really good.

You ever got your hands messed up with the ink of that stuff, you know?

So, you know, my wife, she types that thing up.

You don't dare make a mistake because then you have to redo the whole thing, you know.

And it's done on 1 of these expensive kind of a, whatever, ink deals or, that you have to put on, and then you, I can hear that thing doing it now.

So if I put something in and I get a copy of that, then I have what that looks like.

What could you think of in the heavenly sanctuary that might be a copy.

In the earthly sanctuary that might be a copy of the heavenly.

I had somebody 1 time that was telling me that they didn't buy into the 10 Commandments, that that was all done away with.

And I said to them, they said, it was done away with when the tabernacle went out of business.

Let's just say that that was Moses' deal, and you're right, and it just went out of the way.

And then I read to them out of the book of Revelation chapter 11, where it sees the Ark of the Covenant, the Ark of the Testimony.

I said, that's the 10 Commandments right there.

So I said, the question is, is not what you're going to do with Moses' 10 Commandments, but what are you going to do...

What are you going to do with the heavenly 10 Commandments?

And really that's our challenge to our Protestant brothers and sisters and evangelicals.

The issue for them is, What are you going to do with the heavenly 10 Commandments?

The issue for them is, what are you going to do with the heavenly 10 Commandments of which the earthly is simply a copy?

And the other thing is, if the law of God matters, then the Sabbath matters.

If the law of God doesn't matter, The Sabbath doesn't matter.

What might there be that might be a pattern in the earthly sanctuary?

What could you think of that might be a pattern?

Gracious Father in Heaven, we want to humble ourselves before You.

You know that we cannot understand these great and wonderful things except they're spiritually revealed to us.

And yet, Lord, You work through our logic, you work through the moving of Scripture and the understanding of comparing Scripture with Scripture.

We pray that Jesus will be here today, that He will be in our midst.

I picked up some nice things yesterday myself.

And so as we go into this study, again, we look to you as our strength and our wisdom in Jesus' name, Amen.

Okay, she asked me a very, very good question.

They're going to have to wait on getting that answer.

I meant to bring my regular King James, New King James, and for some reason it disappeared.

Let's go to Revelation chapter 4 and she asked a question, where is the Holy Spirit?

In my regular Bible, I have those texts marked, but I wanted to show you something that I thought was interesting.

To answer that question, I'm going to go back to chapter 1.

And if you run down through there and you start at Verse 4 is correct.

And John, this is a New American standard.

You have to be a little bit more careful with it, but it's a pretty good translation.

What I love about the Adventist message is that you can pretty well prove it out about any translation that comes up as long as it's any word decently translated.

To John, the 7 churches that are in Asia, grace to you and peace from Him who is, who was, and He who is to come.

We're talking about God, I think here, the Father.

Sometimes it says who has been, who is, and who is to come.

Here it says who is, who has been, who is to come.

It's a picture of the eternalness of God the Father.

Like We've had some challenges from some folk who've gotten themselves into the anti-Godhead.

Some fundamental beliefs do it, but Adventist's concept of the Godhead is not quite the same as a Catholic concept.

And I like the term Godhead better than I like the word Trinity, but some people have gotten themselves into that, and it's amazing where they go.

I just went back, so I've just got to get back into this.

Not that I had any questions about it, but I just wanted to see.

I'm telling you, the deeper and the better you get into Scripture, and the more you run down that, the more powerful the Godhead is all the way through Scripture.

Exactly, and it undermines the atonement, it undermines the sanctuary, it undermines everything.

Okay, so this is the eternalness of the Father.

Now, I looked at it, I said, I said, Lord, this is odd.

I know the minute I say this, I know what somebody's going to pop up and say.

But I believe this represents the Holy Spirit.

Now somebody will say, Oh, so you mean there are 7 Holy Spirits?

I did go to the Greek and I looked it up and I thought, well maybe it's 7 singular spirit, but that would not be grammatically correct, even with the Greek, I guess.

But before a person jumps off and says that's 7 spirits, they have to hear the 7 churches.

And at the end of every church you hear these words, let him hear what the Spirit, and that's singular, says to the churches.

So the 7, again, is that mysterious thing, but it is also pointing us forward that the Spirit of God is going to speak.

That's usually where these people start their attack.

They usually start trying to say the Spirit of God is not the Spirit of God.

But here, the Bible over and over and over again pictures 3 eternal beings.

It's amazing the kinds of, if somebody makes up their mind that they want to believe something, they can use every...

They'll go to Scripture and they'll play every game in the book when the truth is as clear as your hand is.

I said, look, here's the pictures of the codicils.

Codicils are the original things where Ellen White says so clearly there are 3 eternal beings, 3 people that are working for our salvation.

And you can see there's the typewritten things.

Yes, it's true that her secretary wrote it, but in Ellen White's own handwriting you have the little corrections that she makes so that she's putting her blessing and she's got the signal where she's signing off on it.

You know, nothing phases them, kind of a thing.

The scripture is clear, the spirit prophecy is clear.

When it says the 7 spirits, look, the golden candlestick has 7 lampstands before the throne.

It's on the opposite side of the table of show.

So would that represent the Holy Spirit as the candle stick?

Because you've got to remember, it has 7 lampstands.

See, what you cannot do with the Holy Spirit, you're very...

That's a conclusion that I've reached, but I can't just automatically say that's the only thing that it represents because you have the 7 churches and there's oil.

We all know the oil represents the Holy Spirit.

If you go to Zechariah chapter 4, and you got the 7 candlesticks, but what keeps the candlestick burning?

Heavenly Father, we want to thank you for your Word and for the Bible and for the faith that we have and that we have not believed cunningly devised fables.

We pray the Spirit of God will be here today being our teacher and our helper.

Okay, I wanted to pick up, because we had some questions about the altar of incense, whether it was in the holy place or the most holy place.

And so I put together my reasons, and I don't want to spend a lot of time on this today because I need to get into the other, but here are my reasons for the trumpets covering all of Christian history from the cross, the second coming, actually covering all that time period.

The book of Revelation is historical or Protestant.

Some of the trumpets, people who are interpreting trumpets, even in the Adventist church, are taking the trumpets and putting them all the way down in the holy of holy place.

And that's why the question about the altar.

The 7 churches, the 7 seals, and the 7 trumpets are repeat in large principle of the same time period like Daniel 2, 7, and 8.

The sanctuary is prophetic with each of the 3 sections covering the ministry of Jesus.

And number 4, and that should be in consecutive order.

Number 4, the trumpets along with the 7 churches and 7 seals are started and initiated in the holy place or the first compartment of the sanctuary.

And the reason for that is they become, they're given from the altar of incense.

5, to pull the 7 trumpets out and put them in the holy of holies with the 7 last plagues is to take them out of their context.

And 6, all of Scripture puts the altar of incense in the holy place, not the most holy place, with the exception of Hebrews.

Hebrews 9, 4 is out of sync with the rest of Scripture on the placement of the altar of incense.

The reasons for this could be, and I looked it up, there's probably 7 reasons that I found.

I'll give you the 2 that I think are my reasonableness.

That's why Adventists believe in thought inspiration and not in...inerrancy.

In other words, the prophets were not God's pen, they were His...what's the word?

Paul is making a theological statement, not a location statement.

And I tend to favor this because on the day of atonement, the altar of incense had the blood placed on it as well as on the mercy seat.

So on that 1 day, it could be included in both compartments.

Okay, that's Jay Gallimore's reason why I lean to that.

The other thing is you always measure the obscure in the light of the clear.

And what you don't do is you take all the clear and try to make it in the light of the obscure.

So, and number 8 is the book of Revelation itself places it in the holy place.

In chapters 1 to 11, you are in the holy place of the heavenly sanctuary.

The most holy place is not opened until it's mentioned in Revelation 1119.

There is no appearance of the altar of incense in the most holy place in chapters 1119 through chapter 22.

So the context of Revelation itself places the altar of incense in the holy place.

And so I'm operating in that context and that's why I believe that's correct.

But if you have a different picture, that's okay.

The first 4 are God's judgments on Imperial Rome.

And then the last 3 are grouped together for the 3 woes, and they are God's judgments on apostate Christian Rome.

Not just papal Rome, per se, but apostate Christian Rome.

Yesterday we talked about the trumpets are the judgments of God that are already in the land.

The first trumpet sounded and there came hail and fire mixed with blood.

And they were thrown to the earth, and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and the green grass was burned up." Revelation 8, 7.

I used to wonder this, and I said, how do we...

So I used to wonder, what does this mean?

But again, I'd forgotten that the Bible is its own interpreter and that we need to search Scripture.

And I fell on this 1 day reading through here, and I was looking at my marginal, you know how you have those marginal references?

And I looked and I thought, oh here's some Old Testament marginal references.

If you want to come in, I got a couple, 3 more chairs I think left in here.

There's 1 there and there's 1 right here.

So I said to myself, I'm going to look those up.

And to my delight and surprise, I began to find something interesting.

I went back and I found God's judgments and the kinds of terminology that He used in that Old Testament.

Why does God say a third, a third, a third?

So let's just go and maybe take a look at some of these Old Testament symbols.

And these are God's judgments on apostate Israel.

Die a pestilence and be consumed with a famine in your midst.

1 third shall fall by the sword all around you.

And I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out the sword all around you, and I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out the sword after them.

So it shall be a reproach, a taunt, a lesson, an astonishment to the nations that are around you when I execute judgments among you in anger and furious fury and in furious rebuke.

I the Lord have spoken." Isaiah 5, 11-15.

Somebody's reminding me to make sure that my arm is okay.

So I said to myself, why is God using a third here?

And that may be of us the reason why He's using a third in the first 4 trumpets because that third follows all the way through those first 4 trumpets.

And as I got to looking at it and thinking about it, God's judgments on Israel and Jeremiah and Ezekiel were not judgments of finality.

They were judgments impartial, Meaning that Israel was not going to be totally obliterated.

It was going to be given an opportunity again.

So I said to myself, that word third then is trying to tell us that these judgments are not the final judgments.

I want to talk about those locusts for just a little bit.

And I wish I had this illustration up there.

If I get it up there, I'll put it back up there for you.

But I picked this up from Irving Maxwell, and I don't know where he exactly got it from, but he made a neat comparison.

And he compared the range of the desert locust.

There are lots of locusts in the world today.

And he showed the range of the desert locust that sweeps through the Middle East, down through Egypt, Saudi Arabia, picks off a little bit of Spain, gets in North Africa, if you've got the picture of the Mediterranean in your mind.

Then he pictures the Muslim, the spread of the Muslim, Arab Muslim.

And the semblance comparison is quite striking.

So you have basically the desert locust range is about where you see the Muslim, the Arab Muslim world, so to speak.

As it says, it can eat its weight in crops.

To us in America today, this doesn't seem like you can get locus out west, but with aerial sprays and pesticides, these things are easily held under control.

But even today in the Middle East they are feared.

In certain parts of the world they don't have the ability to respond, and if you're a subsistence farmer, meaning that you are living and eating off of what you raise, and you see these things show up, they are really a scourge.

Okay, they were commanded not to harm the grass or the earth or the tree or any green thing.

Talked about that yesterday a little bit.

Only those men who did not have the seal of God, I talked about that yesterday, in their foreheads, and they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for 5 months.

And their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man.
