Guarding Purity: Dating Relationships

It through yes okay yeah you can come through under your shirt you got to work it through that way yeah just And then what am I gonna do?

I've done some strange things before audiences, but this is probably the weirdest Do I look like I got something hanging out of my chest?

So what is our overarching principle that we've been dealing with?

The principle was that the most effective way to express the gospel as we have in Scripture and we have in Jesus, is through relationships.

Not the only way, but the most effective way.

Another 1 of the reasons for that is because the gospel is all about relationship between God and humanity, right?

That's, if you were to boil down the essence of what the gospel is all about.

That's relationship and it's best expressed through relationships.

And so we've taken that principle and we've been applying it to the different relationships in our lives.

Parent and child relationships, sibling relationships, our relationship to God, and these sorts of things.

Now we're coming down to dating relationships.

And so we want to take that overarching principle, we want to draw from it the question that we've been looking at, which is, therefore, how am I doing at representing Christ in my relationships?

And we're going to make specific application of that question here today and that question would be how is Christ represented in dating relationships?

Okay, so that's where we're starting from today.

Now that you have the background and you have the context, then we can move into this.

Now, I don't have my notes printed, so I'll be looking at my computer quite a bit.

If we are going to take that question, how is Christ represented in dating relationships, and if This is a sort of a template of who God is.

You do remember that Christ's part of the Godhead, Father, Son, Holy Ghost, so this applies to Jesus as well.

In the Great Commission, we are taking on the mission, the ministry of Jesus Christ, and we are carrying it forward until the end of this world's history, or I said the end of this world's current history.

We get a new history after the Second coming.

Then what we're doing then is we're trying to reveal this through our relationships.

We want to make sure we have that character of Christ revealed through our relationships.

And by doing that, we reveal the true character of God and we proclaim his plan of salvation.

So, hence, the question is, how do we reveal this in dating relationships?

The dating relation, let's back, let's set a little further groundwork here.

Let's discuss what the average, what the normal dating relationship looks like.

He gets your phone number somehow, right?

He calls you up or something now these days she calls you up.

What kind, how does the rest of the date usually look?

Dinner and a movie or dinner and something, you know.

When I'm in Arkansas, if I take a woman to the beach, it's gonna be a long drive.

Dinner and a movie or dinner on the beach or whatever.

Talk to me about how in a typical dating situation, how is the loving character of God revealed?

If you're a Christian, you're going to avoid secluded places so that you are going to keep your minds focused on.

You talked about avoiding secluded places, and that's good.

But once again, in a typical dating situation, how do we express God's love within this relationship?

There's a, you know, like, the relationship can't be just 2, it has to be 3.

In a Christian relationship, you would expect it to be God-centered, Christ-centered.

And the man's usually wanting to please the woman, so he's like always selfless, going, What would you like?

Till about the second or third date, right?

Then it's like, we've done chick flicks 3 times in a row.
