How to Give a Bible Study on - The Word of God

Okay, while you guys are jotting down those verses, I want to start with a little story I once heard.

Has anyone in here ever heard of Muhammad Ali?

So there's a story of Muhammad Ali, and he's flying on an airplane, right?

So they get to, you know, the cruising altitude of 30, 000 feet or whatever it is.

And they run into some moderate turbulence.

Now anybody who's been on a plane, you know that mild turbulence is anything but mild.

And moderate turbulence is kind of a code word for, you know, if you believe in God, you might want to start praying to him at this time.

But anyway, they run into some moderate turbulence and what do you think?

What light came on right in front of the seat?

So, you know, everyone's quite scared so they fasten their seatbelts.

So the stewardess, she went over to Muhammad Ali and she said, sir, would you please buckle your seatbelt?

He said, Superman don't need no seatbelt.

And bless her heart, she didn't miss a beat.

She said, Superman don't need no airplane either.

And I tell you this story because this is almost a Superman task that we have before us.

I mean, we have 2 weekends to get through 14 Bible studies.

I mean, we called it a Bible boot camp for a reason.

But I'm telling you, if you guys stick with it and you get these Bible studies marked in your Bible, you won't regret it.

These things have changed my life, and I think we're going to have a powerful experience.

And I also want to tell that story because we have so much material we want to get to and seeing some of the faces in here, I know there's a wealth of biblical knowledge in here.

So sometimes we might want to add a little bit or raise our hand and say, yeah, review it in this way.

And, you know, we appreciate the input, but we just need to kind of keep going here and not slow it down too much.

If you have questions, we just hope that it will be to clarify what the teacher has presented and not so much get off on too many tangents, okay?

So we're going to begin with our first study and I'm going to teach this in a very simplistic way because this Bible study is not just for us to understand but I'm going to teach it to you so you can teach it to someone else.

Okay, so under study we should all have Word of God.

And then next to Word of God you see that I wrote WG.

Each 1 of these studies we're going to try to put a little two-letter abbreviation.

So when you mark your Bible in the side column, you can write WG and then your notes for each of these verses that we're going to cover.

So I mean, before I gave a Bible study, I was terrified, man.

So I was like, just tell me what I need to say.

I'm going to write those notes in my Bible, and I'm going to read them off, and I give them to people.

And I hate to tell you, but that's what I did the first study, and the woman loved it.

I mean, you think you don't know enough, but you do.

These are great studies, and people are going to love them.

So, does everyone have the verses marked down?

Now under purpose, I'll just read this off slow enough so we can copy it.

So the purpose of the Word of God study is To demonstrate that the Bible is trustworthy.

To demonstrate that the Bible is trustworthy And to show that Christianity is reasonable, credible, and indeed sent from God.

Each of these studies, we want to center upon a person of Jesus Christ.

So each of these, we want to center upon Jesus Christ.

And to center it, you're going to write, The Bible is the clearest revelation of God, and is ultimately given to draw His children into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

Does anybody need to hear either of those again?

To demonstrate that the Bible is trustworthy and to show that Christianity is reasonable, credible, and indeed sent from God.

And I like things to be easy to remember.

I come up with all these crazy mnemonics.

I'm a med student, and I can only remember so much.

So I like to have things all begin with the same letter and stuff like that.

So we started this with the same letter, the claims, content, and consistency.

Is there good reasons that we should trust in the Bible?

Is this book any different than any other 1?

So first we're going to look at the claims that the Bible makes.

Now we want to open our Bibles to 2 Timothy chapter 3.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, come to the Corinthians and you got, you guys remember, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, right, General Electric Power Company or Go Eat Popcorn, right?

And then you come to the T section and there's something about the T section.

So, I mean, you're going to see when you're studying with someone that doesn't have any idea about the Bible, there's a good way to explain to them.

I mean, sometimes they don't even want to open it.

They just, they don't even know where to go.

So you want to explain to them, you know, how to get to these different books.

I like to be interactive so I want to call on some of you guys to read.

Okay, so does somebody wanna read 2 Timothy 3, 15 to 17 for us?

Don't everyone put their hands up at once.

How to Give a Bible Study on - The Great Controversy

Are there some good reasons to believe the Bible instead of any other book?

We only covered a few of these, but there's many other great reasons.

So say, okay, the God of the Bible, a lot of people still have a hard time, is this too loud or?

So, now we're gonna look at the question of evil the hardest question for the Christian faith Why is it there a guy that's all loving and all-powerful yet?

There's evil in this world So we need to wrestle with these ideas.

We need to be able to discuss this with our friends and give them good biblical answers.

So we're going to look at this problem of evil and see if we can't get our hands around this.

I'll let you guys copy that and then I'll tell you the purpose and center it.

And again, these brackets are just kind of things that we're going to refer to, so I put them in brackets.

So we're looking at the origin of evil, the outworkings of evil, the end of evil, and then an appeal.

Origin of evil, outworking of evil, end of evil, appeal.

I'm impressed not many of you guys snuck out the back.

To demonstrate that there is a cosmic conflict between God and Satan, and that God is not the originator of evil.

Center it upon the person of Jesus Christ.

Again, Jesus Christ is the solution to evil, not the originator of it.

I use a lot of run-on sentences, and I'm trying to put everything into 1 sentence here.

Let's begin our Bible study in the book of Genesis.

We're looking at this first part, the origin of evil.

We're going to shuffle through some verses here.

All you want to point out to people here is the repetition of the word good.

You're going to point out all the times when the Genesis says that this is good.

God saw that the light was good and God separated the light from the darkness.

Verse 10, you can either just jot down these verses or underline them as we go.

Verse 10, God called the dry land earth and the gathering of the waters.

He caught seas God saw that it was good verse 12 the earth brought forth vegetation plants yielding seed after their kind and trees bearing fruit with seed and in them and after their kind and God saw that it was good verse 18 and to govern the day and night and to separate the light and the darkness, God saw that it was good.

This is the creation account, everything he's creating, he's looking at it and saying, it was good.

And finally, verse 31, God saw all that he had made and behold, it was, what does the Bible say?

God saw all that was made, it was very good, and there was evening and morning the first day.

We look around the world today and there's many words that we could use and I don't think many of us would say that it is very good.

That's something you can say to the person you're studying with.

God said He created it and it was very good.

Now we're going to go to Matthew chapter 13.

Matthew, Chapter 13, going to verse 24, God created, said it was good.

It's not good, something must have happened.

Matthew, first book of the New Testament.

Matthew 13, verse 24, and the Bible reads, Jesus presented another parable to them saying, the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed...

But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went away.

But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also.

The slave of the land over came to him and said sir.

How then does it have tears and he said to him these are 5 important words.

An enemy has done this underline that an enemy has done this The slave said to him do you want us then to go and gather them up?

But he said, no, for a while, while you're gathering up the tares, you may uproot the wheat with them.

Allow both to grow until the end of the harvest, and at the time of the harvest, and I will save the reapers.

First gather up the tares, and bind them in bundles, and burn them up, but gather the weed into my barb." So all you wanna point out here is that again, you see this parable that Jesus is telling, that it was good, it was good, there was tares, and who sowed the tares?

So you want to point out how much responsibility does the good sower take for the tares?

So in this instance, we don't have to scratch our heads.

Then he left the crowds and went into the house, and his disciples came to him and said, Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.

And he said to him, The 1 that sows good seed is who?

Okay so the 1 that sowed the good seed is the son of man.

How to Give a Bible Study on Salvation

Lord, I thank you that you are such a wonderful God that You give us the words of Scripture, and especially this message of salvation, hope for us.

I pray that as we go through it, Lord, you make it new and alive for us again.

Lord, even if we've heard it before, I just pray you will Excite us with the power of your salvation, the gift of your salvation.

I ask that you help us as we go through this, Lord, to see your word clearly, that we will focus, that we will hear your voice.

And I ask that you just give me clarity of thought, and that as we spend this time together, Lord, that your Holy Spirit will be here moving amongst us.

All right, we are doing the study on salvation.

Write the verses in numbers 1 through 16.

Just to clarify, you write these verses on the top.

This is gonna give you your overview of the verses you cover.

Then you notice below, you see number 1 again.

Number 1 here goes down here and then you write your notes below it.

Whatever I talk about on that verse or that comes to your mind, you write it underneath that.

So fill out the verses if you're writing.

And we're going to go ahead and get started.

The purpose is to show that salvation is by grace alone, to show that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, to the glory of God alone.

The second part of this purpose, it's to give the opportunity for someone to accept Christ.

Anytime this is presented, it gives the opportunity for someone to accept Christ.

He longs for us to accept his gift of salvation.

So we're gonna show that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, to the glory of God alone, because God is love and he longs for us to accept his gift of salvation.

1 way that I like to do this with Bible Boot Camp is to do it as if I'm giving the Bible study.

So today you are going to be Sally, okay?

I'm having a Bible study with Sally, all right?

So I'm going to go through this Bible study as if I was giving it to 1 person, Sally, my friend Sally.

I'm going to go through it, I'm going to ask you questions and you respond as if it's just you and me with the Bible study, is that okay?

So Sally, 1 thing that I've noticed is that in this world people are searching for peace.

They're tired of getting up in the morning, going to work, coming home, watching TV, going to bed, getting up and doing the same thing over again.

People have so much guilt, depression is at an all-time high.

Statistics show that depression, some say major depression is about at 10% with minor depression 5 to 10%.

We find in the Bible, in the book of Genesis, in the very beginning, how this world began.

It says, and God saw everything that he made and behold, it was what?

And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

God created everything and what did he say it was?

Sally, God made everything and it was very good.

People weren't dissatisfied or depressed.

The transition to this, I ask a question, number 1.

Genesis, let's go to Genesis chapter 3 and we're going to see where this all came from.

We learned last time, Sally, about where sin came from.

We learned about the great controversy, but we're gonna look here a little bit more, deeper into where this came from.

Let's see who would like to read that for me.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit of the tree of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat, nor shall you touch it lest you die.

Then the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die, for God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make 1 wise, she took of its fruit and ate.

She also gave to her husband with her and he ate.

Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they saw that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

And God told them not to eat of this tree, but they did.

How to Give a Bible Study on the Judgment Part 1

How many of you guys so far have been just really getting a blessing from Bible Boot Camp?

Jesus is coming soon and what better place to be than right here this afternoon.

Even though the sun is shining, God will definitely reward you coming here and filling your mind with the things of Him and preparing yourself to go out and share the Word and also equipping yourself.

I know when I went through this whole Bible Boot Camp, it impacted me just as much as getting me ready to share with people.

And so I pray that it does the same with you.

Let's go ahead and bow our heads for prayer.

Dear Jesus, I just ask that you continue to be here and stay in this room and just help our minds to continue to focus on these things of you.

Be with me, empty me, and please just speak through me.

Okay, so this is the first part of a two-part study on the judgment.

Hopefully a lot of you have gotten the verses written down there up there on the screen.

If not, as we go through, you'll see that I have them numbered, So if you missed writing them down on this screen, you'll see them.

As we come to them again, you can just write them down.

Okay, so the purpose of this study is to show the judgment is to vindicate the character of God, to remove blame and prove innocence.

In the judgment, God is really on trial, not just us.

And the center today is, in the judgment, Jesus himself is on trial, not just us.

Jesus will be our judge, our lawyer, and in the stands when we are on trial, trying to find every way to save us.

We just need to live completely for him every day in response to his amazing love for us.

And you don't have to put all that, but you can kind of summarize what you want to put in your center it.

These things that we gave you at the beginning are just kind of to get your mind focused on what you're, you know, with all the information that you're sharing with your person that you're sharing with, it kind of just keeps you on track with what's the main point you're trying to get across to them in that study.

So I'll give you a minute just to write that down.

Okay, so the first question that we're going to be asking in this study is, is there a judgment?

And so to answer that question we're going to turn to our first verse in Hebrews 9 27.

If someone wants to read that for us, Hebrews 9 27.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment.

Okay so we see the Bible says that yes, there is a judgment.

Many people on earth, when they have to face something they've done and the court has given them a verdict, They don't want to face their verdict and so a lot of them will commit suicide.

An example of that is the Nuremberg trials after World War II.

This judgment, however, we will all face, we will all go to no matter what.

It is so important that even the dead will be resurrected to realize their verdict if they are dead.

So If we're not alive at the end of time when Jesus comes, then we will be raised up to realize our verdict.
