What Time Is It

Well, good morning, brothers and sisters.

We are in the midst of a series on sacrifice, and I have been very personally blessed by the presentations, the messages that Pastor David has been presenting to us these past several weeks.

Really spoke to, I think, a universal need that all of us have to trust God and continue to be faithful and keep our hands in His in the midst of trials and the midst of trouble, to not let go of our grip on Jesus and to know that we do have an ever-abiding, ever-present Savior and friend who is always with us.

Well this morning this is just kind of a, oh, what's a good word to use?

Maybe a timeout from looking at sacrifice as we look at a question that I want to ask you this morning, what time is it?

It will connect with our theme of sacrifice, but I'm asking a question, what time is it?

And I'm asking that question based on the biblical account.

Do you love the Word of God this morning?

I want to share with you just to begin with 3 incredible facts about the Bible, about God's holy word.

Every chance I have, I love the opportunity to speak about the power and the majesty and the blessing that God's word has for each 1 of us.

I really believe if we fully grasp and realize the power in the Word of God, our lives would be dramatically transformed and changed.

Well, fact number 1, I'm not going to go through, I have too many Bible verses, that's 1 of my problems, but I hope it's a good problem.

Fact number 1, we'll find that in 1 Peter 1, verse 23 and Hebrews 4, 12.

I've alluded to some of these and said some of these before but we're just gonna put it in a nice little neat list this morning, 3 incredible facts about the Bible And that will then be our springboard for our subject, What Time Is It?

The Bible says, being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God.

Now notice what it says next, which what?

"'Liveth and abideth how long?' Forever." Fact number 1, God's Word is alive.

That's the testimony of Scripture itself.

And it says in 1 Peter 1.23, it lives and abides or continues, how long?

We can even read in Matthew 24, verse 35, Jesus says, heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall what?

They are living and active, which is what our next verse says.

Hebrews 4 and verse 12, if you have the King James Version, that happens to be my favorite version.

The Bible says, for the word of God is quick and powerful.

That's the King James, some of the modern translations will take and say, is living and active.

The Greek words for living and active are the words for energy.

They actually contain an energetic power, an energetic life in that Word on the inspiration of Paul himself.

And then we have this quote, I know I've said it before, but I love it so dearly, Education page 126, paragraph 4, the creative energy that called the worlds into existence is in the Word of God.

As we come into contact with the Word of God, we receive the living principles in the Word of God itself, from God Himself.

Fact number 2, 2 Corinthians 10, verse 4, and Ephesians 6, 17.

Very quickly, this is just introductory material, I'll go quickly.

2 Corinthians 10 verse 4, it says, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, the weapons of our warfare." And this is a reference or an allusion to the scriptures.

Is there a such thing called the great controversy?

Further on up in Ephesians, well actually Ephesians 6, 17, it's describing putting on the full armor of God.

It says, and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is The what?

The Word of God is the weapon that the Holy Spirit always uses in His operation.

And it says in verse 12, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places, we are in a great controversy and our weapons are the Word of God, the Scripture weapons.

And I think all the more important that we would know what those weapons are so that we can use them when Satan comes with his attacks and his deceptions.

And then finally, fact number 3, Psalm 138, verse 2.

I know I have not quoted this verse yet here, but I am anxious to do so.

We believe David wrote this psalm and David lived circa 1000 BC, a thousand years approximately before the time of Christ.

And under inspiration he says, I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy truth.

God is worthy to be praised for his loving kindness and for his truth.

And then he adds this point, for thou, speaking about God, hast magnified thy word above what?

Above all thy name." Now you fell asleep on that point, what David is telling us.

For God Himself has magnified His holy word even above His name.

Yes, the third commandment, thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

We read that also in Psalm 111, but he says also He has magnified it and exalted His word even above His holy name.

So whenever I run into arguments with people in some places that want to argue the name for Christ, is it Jehovah, is it Yahweh, is it Elohim, is it, you name, There's all kinds of long lists for God.

And you can get lost in calling God the right name.

What God cares the most about, He tells us, is the message in His Word.

That's what He has magnified and exalted to a high prominent position.

And my question for us this morning, is it highly exalted by you and I?

Have we exalted the Word of God above television, above the internet, above any other person or any other thing that could get in the way of knowing this important truth?

And then this also quote from the same chapter in the book Education, as a means of intellectual training, the Bible is more effective than any other book.

But there's a comma there, that's not the end of the sentence, or all other books combined.

You can Take all the books at Barnes & Noble, all the books at the Henderson County Library and combine them and it will not be as effective in developing your mind and strengthening it as studying the precious Word of God.

Do we realize the power in the Word of God?

Well, let me ask you a quick history question as we launch off today.

A well-known statement, government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth.

Alright, I think I'm hearing the correct answer.

It was Abraham Lincoln who said that back in 1863 during the heart of the Civil War.

Well, he actually copied it from somewhere else.

Does anyone know where he copied this from?
