Some Things Never Change

I am very delighted to be with you, I really am.

This part of the world has a special place in my heart, and so I thank God for the privilege of the opportunity to worship with you in this way.

I know you pressed for time, and I want to recognize that and respect it, so I'll abbreviate my introductory remarks and simply say let us pray and get right down to the message.

Our Father in heaven, We thank you, dear God, for the gift of life.

We thank you for the privilege of worshiping you on your holy day.

And Father, as we prepare our hearts to listen to the message, we Ask in the name of Jesus Christ to grant us your spirit's ministry of revelation.

Help us to understand the word and to obey the word.

We ask you to surround us with angels that excel in strength, that they may shield us from the interference of the forces of darkness.

Let this message speak individually to every person listening.

Thank you, dear God, for this glorious privilege of worship.

We pray from our hearts in Jesus' name, amen.

Our subject for today, some things never change.

Luke chapter 17, we shall begin reading at verse 26.

All those of you with Bibles, raise them, let me see.

Please don't put the text on the screen, you technicians back there.

This is a Seventh-day Adventist church, and I expect you to have your Bibles and find the books quickly.

The Bible says, and as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man.

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark and the flood came and destroyed them all." Verse 28, likewise also, as it was in the days of Lot, they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built.

But the same day that lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone out of heaven and destroyed them all.

Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed." Now if we go back to verse 26 of this passage, and our subject is, some things never change, Jesus Christ says, as it was in the days of Noah.

Now, most people are fascinated with what will happen tomorrow.

And so those people who are not spiritually enlightened, they pay psychics to tell them.

Others, depending on your culture, you may read tea leaves or the bones of animals or the entrails.

We have this fascination with what will happen tomorrow, Jesus Christ says, as it was in the days of Noah.

That's how it will be in the days of the coming of the Son of Man.

Then the intelligent mind asked the question, what was it like in the days of Noah?

Let's go take a look at what it was like in the days of Noah.

Genesis 6 reading from verse 1 the Bible says, And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose and the Lord said my spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh Yet his day shall be an hundred and 20 years." Now, 1 thing we learn is that in the days of Noah, there was a lot of intermarriage.

Now if you read Patriarchs and Prophets, the chapter on Seth and Enoch, Eloi says that the descendants of Seth, the godly line, they lived in the hills and the mountains.

The descendants of Cain, the wicked line, they lived in the valleys and the plains.

And she said as long as they remained separate, the descendants of Seth preserved the true form of worship.

But gradually they began to intermingle and she said it produced the most destructive results.

1 of the problems in the days of Noah was rampant intermarriage.

The Lord blesses me to travel widely, and I preach at night at Crusades, counsel in the day.

And 1 of the frustrating problems I have to deal with is precisely this, intermarriage, or intermingling or Adventists with non-Adventists.

Let me tell you very directly, Ellen White writes in Adventist Home page 67, paragraph 1, to connect yourself with an unbeliever is to place yourself on Satan's ground.

You grieve the Spirit of God and forfeit His protection.

You grieve the Spirit of God, what does it mean to forfeit?

Can you afford to have such terrible odds against you in fighting the battle for everlasting life, and that's the question you and I have to ask depending upon the social situation in which we find ourselves or place ourselves.

In the book Letters to Young Lovers, page 87, paragraph 3, Ellen White is writing to a young lady who is unequally yoked, and she says, though the companion of your choice were in all other respects noble or acceptable, which he is not, you are, he is an unbeliever.

He has not accepted the truth for this time.

And you are forbidden of heaven to unite yourself with him.

You cannot, without peril to your soul, disregard this divine injunction these are strong words acidic into marriage that was 1 of the problems in Noah's day.

Jesus says, as it was back then, that's how it not only will be, but that's how it is now.

Verse 5 says, and God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, And that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

In the days of Noah, all people thought of was wrongdoing.

However, attractively dressed it might have been, wrongdoing dominated the thinking of the majority of the inhabitants of the world prior to the flood.

Jesus Christ says that's the way it will be just before he comes.

Let's go to verse 11 of Genesis chapter 6.

The Bible says the earth also was corrupt before God and the earth was filled with violence.

Well I need not elaborate upon violence in our modern society.

Whether someone breaking into your house or someone dropping a bomb on somebody's city, this earth is steeped in violence.

Verse 12, Genesis 6, and God looked upon the earth and behold it was corrupt.

This corruption was a matter of personal choice.

I left the church because she didn't like my dress.

The Bible says All flesh had corrupted His way.

When God came down into the garden, He said to Adam, where art thou?

Verse 10 of Genesis 3, Adam said, I heard thy voice in the garden and I hid myself because I was naked, I was afraid.

In the days of Noah, people were corrupt by choice.

Jesus says in this day, it will be precisely the same thing.

The only difference will be perhaps a greater extent of severity, as the Holy Ghost is being gradually withdrawn.

Let's go to 2nd Peter chapter 2 verse 5 as we examine the days of Noah a little further to try to understand what Jesus Christ meant when he said, as it was in those days, even so shall it be in the days of the coming of the Son of Man.

In that chapter, Peter is telling his readers that God will punish evil or false teachers.

And he said, and spared not the old world, but saved Noah, the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon whom?

So we learn the world back then was ungodly Something ungodly is satanic If you follow what I like to call the principle of opposites in the Bible If it's not godly satanic, There's no middle ground in the scriptures.

So here's God, here's Satan, you keep the middle ground while you casually decide.

The world back then was largely satanic and Eloha says of this world, most of the inhabitants of this world have given themselves over to Satan.

She said a hundred years ago, it is worse today.
