GLOW Rally 2010: Let There Be Light

GLOW 2010 Welcome and Testimonies

I'm Nelson and I work as a director for the GLOW program in Central California Conference.

And I'd like to start off this morning by sharing with you a quick story.

Not too long ago we had a young woman who carried literature with her And she happened to stop by some place where she decided to take 1 of her tracts and to set it on a table.

So she set her tract on the table, and lo and behold, this was a table at a convention where a bunch of evangelical pastors were getting together on a prayer day.

Now she said it by the registration table.

The problem was is that she said it there late.

And all the pastors had already signed up, so she thought, and she said, you know what?

I don't know if anything's gonna come of this.

They probably aren't even gonna go to that registration booth.

Well, at the end of the prayer meeting, somebody got up front on the stage and said, excuse me, pastors, a bunch of you have not signed up, and we need you to go back to the registration booth and sign up.

So here comes this horde of evangelical pastors back to that table.

Everybody's grabbing the GLO literature, and 1 of them happened to be the Merced County Jail Chaplain.

He picked up the GLOW tract entitled, Does God Care That I'm Hurting?

He read it, he called the phone number on the back, and he said, I want this literature for all 900 of my men in jail.

A few months later, we got a second call from him ordering more literature in Spanish, and we said, well, okay, this is good.

And he said, well, an inmate came up to me, and he showed me that you guys have these Spanish tracts, too.

And so apparently a Spanish tract had snuck into there and we didn't even ship them any Spanish tracts.

Now, to date we've sent over 2, 000 pieces of literature to this jail because 1 tract was set on a table.

Now, actually what this is, it's not my notes for the welcome.

These are handwritten letters from people signing up for Bible studies because you've been passing out literature.

In fact, I have a handwritten letter right here from 1 of the inmates in that Merced County Jail.

To whom this may concern, my name is Arthur Herman and I am currently incarcerated.

I want to get into the Word a lot more than I have been.

I'm accepted Jesus in my life and would like to know more about Him.

Can you please send some free literature?

This is our paycheck, brothers and sisters.

Not too long ago, actually in 1902, A very special woman wrote these words.

She said, the best help that ministers can give to our people, the what kind of help?

The best help that our ministers can give to our people in our churches is not sermonizing but planning work for them.

The best help that the ministers can give to the members of our churches is not sermonizing but planning work for them.

Many of us might have come today with mixed motives.

Some here might have come so that we could hear infamous Adventist preachers.

Some here might have come because they saw a bulletin insert and said, hey, I've seen that guy on 3ABN.

Some of us here might have come because they saw a Bolton insert and said, hey, I've seen that guy on 3ABN, I want to see him face to face.

Some of us here might have come today because we want to mingle and mix with other Adventists that we haven't seen in a while since Camp Meeting or GYC.

Those are all okay motives, but you know the best motive for coming to the GLOW Rally?

Is so that we can learn how to reach people who are on the outside of these walls.

The reason why this GLOW Rally is happening today is not so that you can hear good sermons.

The reason why you've come today is so that we can learn how to better reach the people in our own home communities.

This rally is going to meet its objective when you drive away from here and you're at the gas pump and you hand a piece of literature to the person who's pumping gas next to you.

That is when the rally is going to meet its objective.

This rally is going to meet its objective when you are back home in the grocery store line and you strike up a conversation with the person behind you and you happen to give them a tract about Jesus.

That is when this rally is going to meet its objective.

1 last story here, otherwise I just keep on going.

I heard an amazing testimony the other day.

GLOW has spread to 12 different conferences since its 2 year beginning.

And 1 church had just started the GLOW program in Arizona.

1 young woman from that church happened to have her tracks with her and she was carrying them on the bus on her ride to go to work.

Now she felt an overwhelming conviction to hand that track to the person who was sitting next to her, a complete stranger.

Now she was a little shy so she held back but eventually the bus came to a stop and she realized if I don't give this guy a tract right now, I might not ever see him again in my life.

Have you guys ever felt something like that?

You know, convicted to hand out those tracts in your little, I don't know if I want to.

Well, anyway, she mustered up her courage, she pulled the tract out of her pocket, and it was 1 that says, does God care that I'm hurting?

He took the tract, he looked at it, he said, I was just praying that God would give me a sign if he didn't want me to commit suicide.

I heard that story from the young woman who you're gonna see up here in just a few minutes.

Can you imagine what would have happened if she wouldn't have had that literature with her?

If there's 1 thing that I want to get across is that in our welcome this morning, GLOW is not a tract.

GLOW is a concept of carrying literature with you wherever you're at.

You don't have to be a paid professional to be a literature evangelist.

You can put this in your pocket, and if you have an opposable thumb, you can be a literature evangelist.

You can pass out any literature you want, as long as it's doctrinally true.

I don't care if it's amazing facts stuff.

We don't praise a name lest we become institutionalized.

Our loyalty should not be to a name or brand.

Rather, our loyalty should be to the command of our Savior, who told us that all of us should carry tracks through his prophet.

Let every believer scatter broadcast tracks and leaflets containing the message for this time.

So brothers and sisters, in closing, I'd like to say welcome to the GLOW Rally 2010.

And we pray that you would come away from this rally being more equipped and more inspired to reach others in your home community.

Real Evidence about Life’s Issues

Today we're going to talk about lust Real evidence about life, but we're gonna talk about lust today You know I was a pastor for 13 years and I preached a lot of sermons The most downloaded sermon from my website ever in the history of my website was the sermon on lust.

So I got this idea that people are interested in the subject of lust.

Although they may not want to show up at a seminar entitled lust because people might think something about them, but you guys don't feel that way.

But I know that later on, I know that later on, probably people will come to the website and more people will listen to this than maybe even the other seminars, because a lot of people struggle with lust.

The Bible talks about lusting after the spirit.

And then there's of course bad, which is lusting after the flesh.

So let's pray together and then we will begin.

Alright, if anybody comes to pick up that chair tell them to stop because it looks like somebody had an accident on the chair so they may not want to sit on it.

Let's pray together and ask the Lord to be with us.

Father in heaven, we're thankful today that we can spend a few moments together here in Fresno, And we want to glow for you.

But we're often driven to be busy and hurried when we really have not spent time with you and allowed you to cleanse our lives and hearts.

So we can't really make our influence felt in a skeptical world unless we're connected to you.

So we want to be connected to you, and I hope that there'll be some practical aspect here that would really help, not just the people listening, but even me myself.

Alright, moral impurity and pornography are all around us.

It's worse in some parts of the world, but it's getting worse here.

I mean, when you're in Scandinavia and some places of Asia and different things, you'll have huge billboards of naked bodies and different things.

And so a couple years ago, I was asked to move to Norway and work there, but I just couldn't put my kids in that environment because it was so overt.

It's all around us, it's on the billboards, it's on magazines, it's in movies, it's in theaters.

And you know, certain theaters will focus exclusively on feeding lust.

And you know, in our movie or something like that or even PG's now, they basically gauge it on the explicit nature of the things that would elicit a lust response.

And I believe that these places and even the internet we could term those as what the Bible called high places Where the prophets of Baal and all those different people that went to worship there would couple their religion with Immorality You may not know this but in the temples that surrounded the Hebrew temple and in the ancient cultures, they would have many of the same parts of the service of the sanctuary, but they would meet someone who would be their companion, who was not their spouse, and they would go through the entire time of religion, supposedly, and then they would culminate that with becoming like husband and wife as a result of the religious ceremony.

So the Hebrew temple and the Hebrew culture stood out as completely different than that.

Where there was immorality all around, they were moral and they were reminded that they were people of the covenant from way back when Abraham Had his name changed from Abram to Abraham and he was circumcised at that time and God chose That part of his body to help him remember that even that is a to express covenant relationship with God and with his spouse, and to have a faith-filled experience with God, right?

And, you know, so we live surrounded by all of these different things.

None of you in this room can trust your heart because the heart is desperately wicked.

And you can't say, all right, on my own, I'm gonna beat this thing.

And we're also surrounded by wrong relationships and wrong friendships.

And I think that there are people that prey on young people.

And I think there are people that prey on old people.

And I think that unless you're connected with the Lord, you're going to have someone that approaches you and tries to make the temptations real in your life.

It's a big enough deal I guess for you folks to come here, but there's several texts that I'll look at with you Proverbs 5 8 through 14 Proverbs 7 22 and 23 1st Thessalonians 4 4 through 7 and let's look at those Here's the first 1 Proverbs 5 8 through 13 Proverbs 5 8 through 13 Now I don't know if they're going to have a website associated with this, but I'll probably put this presentation in PDF form up on my website, afco.org, and then go down under that training section and you'll see a place that says training.

What will you find macintosh notes and I'll put all pop up with that up and okay afco dot com so I'll put that up in PDF form.

Maybe amazing vaccination if we did the V, but it's amazing facts.

Proverbs 5, 8 through 13, remove your way far from her.

Do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others and your years to the cruel 1, lest aliens be filled with your wealth, and your labors go to the house of a foreigner, and you mourn at last when your flesh and body are consumed.

This proverb was talking about being involved with someone that was a prostitute or in harlotry and it was saying that you're spending your wealth, in other words, your vital forces for something that's not related to your future And ultimately it leads to what?

Have we seen any examples of people losing their wealth and everything else as a result of being involved in sexual immorality recently.

Maybe you've heard about this situation with this particular celebrity and he had a very public fall, some of which we don't know is true or not, but it really teaches you whether or not all those things are true, that everybody jumps on the bandwagon and they will leave you high and dry and try and take all your wealth and take everything away from you.

And I think that it's 1 of the major lessons of this time.

And that happening in such a public way should give us pause as well.

Continuing with the verse, and you say, how I have hated instruction and my heart despised correction.

This particular celebrity that we were talking about when he was a young man, his mother tried to drill into his brain not to do that.

It says, I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me.

I was on the verge of total ruin in the midst of the assembly and congregation.

Now, you know, when you get involved in this, it can be a very embarrassing thing, and you want to just go away and hide, and never maybe see anybody else again, and you might even want to end your life.

In fact, some people have that concern about this particular celebrity we're talking about, or just alluding to today as an illustration.

And the devil wants you to get so discouraged and so down and out as a result of not having victory over the flesh that you believe there's no way out.

And I want to just tell you that God doesn't want you to do that.

No matter what you've done, there's going to be hope.

And I better keep going or we won't get to it.

Immediately he went after her as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of stocks, until an arrow struck his liver.

As a bird hastens to its snare, he did not know it would cost his life.

Have you ever watched these feedlots, how they have the cattle go?

And they have them go, and they don't even know that they're going to die, and they put them in a maze, right?

And then they go around, and it gets darker and darker, and they don't want them to stampede or anything, and then boom!

That big thing hits their head, and they're slaughtered, and they're, they try and, and I don't know how they did it back in Bible times, but the whole idea was they tried to do it in a way that it seemed like it wasn't any big deal, but it cost them their lives.

First Thessalonians 4, 4-7, each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in Sanctification and honor not in passion of a lust Like the Gentiles who do not know God So there's a difference between someone who is just a goyim, a Gentile, and those who are of God.

No 1 should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this manner because the Lord is the avenger of all such.

We also forewarned you and testified." Now, it talked about possessing his own vessel.

Some people think that means the individual's body themselves.

Some people think it means their wife, depending on the passage and whatnot.

But just put it this way, if you're messing around with somebody who ultimately is not going to be your wife, That's somebody else's wife.

And if you're messing around with somebody that's not your husband, then that's going to be somebody else's.

For God did not call us to uncleanness, but to what does it say?

Proverbs 5, 8-14 says you're going to get sick if you get involved.

Proverbs 7, we're just summarizing 7, 22 and 23, you may get killed and 1 Thessalonians 4, 4-7, the Lord will avenge.

In other words, He's not just going to let it go.

So what is the promise for the victorious?

Two Minute Warning

Father in heaven, Lord, we thank you so much for allowing us to gather here together.

We thank you for what has taken place here.

We're excited about reaching to those that don't know you, but Father, we're excited because we know that Jesus is coming and He's coming soon.

And as we open your word now, we pray that you will send your Holy Spirit to be with us and guide us in our study, we pray in Jesus' name, amen.

I would like to begin this afternoon pretty much where I am going to end.

And I would like to begin by reading a statement that we do find in the book Great Controversy, and that is found in page 582.

Great Controversy, page 582, the chapter entitled, The Impending Conflict.

And here she writes, from the very beginning of the great controversy in heaven, It has been Satan's purpose to overthrow the law of God.

So we know that from the very beginning, Satan has wanted to overthrow what?

It was to accomplish this that he entered upon his rebellion against the Creator.

And though he was cast out of heaven, he has continued the same warfare upon the earth.

To deceive men and thus lead them to transgress God's law is an object which he has steadfastly pursued.

So therefore today all the violence, all the immorality, all the destruction is Satan bent on destroying the law of God and trying to cause others to disregard the law of God.

She goes on, whether this be accomplished by casting aside the law altogether, or by rejecting 1 of its precepts, the result will be ultimately the same." And then she says, In seeking to cast contempt upon the divine statutes, Satan has perverted the doctrines of the Bible, and errors have thus become incorporated into the faith of thousands who profess to believe the Scriptures.

The last great conflict between truth and error is but the final struggle of the longstanding controversy concerning the law of God.

Upon this battle, " and again, this battle is a last great conflict.

Upon this battle we are now entering a battle between the laws of men and the precepts of Jehovah, between the religion of the Bible and the religion of fables and tradition.

So this last battle concerning the law of God, we're about to enter it.

And I would like for us to go to a very, very familiar passage for us this morning, this afternoon.

Revelation chapter 12, Revelation chapter 12, and I would like for us to go to verse 17.

Revelation 12, verse 17, and when you're there, please let me hear you say, Amen.

The Bible says, And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make what?

War with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." Now question, has there ever been a time since the days of Adam, has there ever been a time in which the dragon has not been at war with God's church?

From the very beginning, Satan has always been at war with God's church.

So then what's the point of John here saying, and the dragon was rough with the woman and went to make war if he's always been at war?

This war of chapter 12, verse 17, this war, has this war begun already?

And what I'd like to do right now, my friends, is go for some MIB review, but you're going to see why we're going to do this in just a minute.

I would like for us to do a quick run-through of chapter 12 of Revelation, And we're going to find out exactly why it is the two-minute warning.

Verse 1 says, And there appeared a great wonder in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of 12 stars." Now question, this we know.

Verse 2, and She, being with child, cried, travailing in birth, and pain to be delivered." Now question, we know this is a church, but which church is it talking about?

We know that the child that's gonna be born is who?

So therefore, in verse 1 and verse 2, The woman is pregnant, the child is not born.

So here we find the church in the Old Testament phase.

So the Old Testament church is right about to give way to the New Testament church, amen?

And there appeared another wonder in heaven.

And behold, a great red dragon, having 7 heads and 10 horns, and 7 crowns upon his heads." Now, who's the dragon?

Because verse 9 says, and the great dragon was cast out that it also been called the devil and Satan.

Verse 4, and his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth." Stop there.

Now, the 1 third of the stars, of course, are who?

Now, using the actual words of the text, what did Satan use to drag down with him a third of the stars of heaven?

Is Satan a guy in red pajamas with a pitchfork and horns poking people?

But yet, the Word says that he uses tail.

Let's go to Isaiah 9, Isaiah 9, Isaiah 9, and let's go to verse 15, Isaiah 9, verse 15.

The Bible says, Isaiah 9, verse 15, the ancient and honorable, he is the what?

And the prophet that teaches lies, he's the what?

Okay, let's go back to the temple of Revelation.

Verse 4, "'And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and it cast into the earth.

And the dragon stood before the woman, which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born." So Satan here, using the Roman empire and Herod, was standing right by the woman to devour, destroy Jesus as soon as He was born.

Now, verse 5, I love verse 5 because the Bible's amazing.

I mean, the Word makes big things condense in such small phrases, because in verse 5, we have the entire life of Jesus summed up.

Verse 5 says, and she brought forth the child, a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron, and her child was caught up unto God and to his throne." The whole life of Jesus in 1 verse.

And so, When Satan saw that he could not destroy the child, when he saw that he could not destroy Jesus, and when Satan was defeated at the cross, is Satan an enemy that gives up easily?

He continues and continues and continues.

But when he was defeated and he could not destroy the man child, who did he now go after?

Verse 6, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand 200 and threescore days.

And we know this is the 1, 260-year prophecy, the time period of 538 to 1798.
