There is the other and then there's the other other.

On this episode of Inverse we're going to look at the point of education and how to cross these lines.

Now here's your host, Justin Kim, with Inverse.

Regardless of culture, regardless of society or nation that you're in, there are lines, there are classes, there are different peoples and different races and different, just different categories that we're in.

How does the topic of education intersect with these kind of societies.

On this episode we're going to look at the topic of selflessness and true service.

We are in the studio on this episode of Inverse.

We haven't been in the studio for, well that was last quarter, and so we're really appreciating the studio, we appreciate the air conditioning, some of us, not all of us, and we totally wanna welcome Callie, who is joining us from afar, and we appreciate the time difference and the space difference, but she is here with us.

So, Siku, you can pray for us, we appreciate it.

Loving Father, we thank you for the opportunity to come to scripture and we pray that you would be our teacher now that we may obtain an education from you that would transform us and make us more like you.

Let's go to our beginning text, Luke 10, and Israel, if you can read there, Luke 10, verse 25.

It says, And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life and he said to him what is written in the law what is your reading of it so he answered and said you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart all your soul with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself and he said unto him You have answered rightly, Do this and you will live.

But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

And Jesus answered and said, that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

Likewise, a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked and passed by on the other side.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was.

And he went to him and bandaged his wounds pouring on oil and wine And he set him on his own animal brought him to an inn and took care of him on the next day when he departed He took out 2 denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said unto him, Take care of him and whatever more you spend when I come again, I will repay you.

So which of these 3 do you think was neighbor to him who fell among thieves?

Then Jesus said to him, go and do likewise.

And again, we're trying to get deeper into scripture and in the time allotment that we have, we choose 1 passage.

So we want to encourage if you're watching out, watching us to get into this text with us.

So Kelly we we we love you we we are so glad you could be part of us so as I said during the break that you are kind of like the the balsamic glaze that brings a pizza all together at the end and we're so glad that you were here I can't believe I mentioned about American customizable pizzas on Uninversed, but we want to ask you what are some thoughts that we've covered in this arc on education that you've appreciated and that you remember up to this point?

Yeah, there's been a common thread that I've really appreciated throughout the episodes we've done so far and that is that true education originates with Christ Himself, with God.

It's not in a book or a degree or a school or even necessarily some kind of experience but it's really just about that communion with God.

He's the 1 that has the best purposes for us and just it is how Christ-centered education itself is and that's really been just a beautiful thing to discover because that's not really the first thing you think of, right?

When you think of education, I think of like homework or grading because I'm also a teacher for a long time.

So it's nice to see that education is really at its best, it's Christ-centered.

I mean my parents were like, you're an Asian.

You've got to get straight A's because you're an Asian.

And I just remember education was over here and spirituality was over here.

In many ways, I mean, Sabbath, keeping Sabbath and taking a break for education is just a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful exercise or wonderful practice I should say.

And sometimes we do these 2 are separate and I really appreciate in our conversation that we've brought in creation and redemption and spirituality.

We're just kind of mixing it all, but we're not really muddying it.

It's actually coming into order pretty, pretty nicely.

And so Israel, what does Luke chapter 10 have to do with education in a broad sense?

So when we talked about in the first episode, we talked about how education necessitates an acquaintance with God, not just as an awesome add-on, but it's necessary.

Because God is the beginning of education.

The whole point of life is to know God for who he is.

Then let me parse that out, because that sounds very, very out there.

He is the 1 who everything that we know is who He is.

So that's where all sorts, starts off with.

So when God created us, He created us for the purpose of knowing Him.

And now the question is, in a fallen state, how do we live life?

Not only is He the source of education, but He's also the medium of education.

It is God that teaches us, you know, we talked about the practicality of calculus and all these different things.

It is God who is the constant stable line that says, all right, knowledge itself is not going to give you what you need in life.

Knowledge is not going to give you what you need in life.

Knowledge is not going to give you peace.

Knowledge is not going to bring society to where it needs to be.

And so God is not just the beginning of education, but He's also the source of education.

And then he's the end goal, you were saying.

If all this properly takes place, that is what the results will be.

Okay, I think that's a pretty profound point that encapsulates all of education.

And that's the whole purpose of education.

So, we talked about acquainting ourselves, knowing God.
