Appetite and the End of Times

All right, happy Sabbath Miami Temple good to be with you all again even though this is a virtual Just praising God for the invite and just want to thank you Again, I assisted Judy for for inviting me and pastor for having me.

We're gonna get right into the message today.

We know this is a health and temperance weekend.

I pray you enjoyed the coronavirus presentation last night and that you'll enjoy what we discussed this afternoon.

A scripture reading is taken from Romans chapter 8, starting at verse 13.

It says, for if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die.

But if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Our message this Sabbath is entitled, Appetite and the End Times.

Father God, we thank you for this opportunity to study your word.

I pray, Father God, that you would just fill me now with your Holy Spirit.

And Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit, speak through me.

Instead, Father, let us hear a word from the throne room of grace.

So we're going to talk about appetite and the end times and This is this is 1 of the things when we talk about health and temperance the temperance side of it does deal with controlling The appetite the Bible story is a familiar 1 that we'll deal with this morning Daniel 1 and verse 1 says in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, into Jerusalem and besieged it.

The Lord gave Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his God, and brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.

Nebuchadnezzar goes in, he takes control of Judah, he captures the king, takes the vessels, really never lets up.

There are 3 separate times Nebuchadnezzar attacks.

Each time it seems to get worse until finally he wipes them out.

But this time is the time when Daniel's picked up 1 of the earlier of the attacks.

And he takes some of the vessels with him.

Daniel 1 and verse 3 says, And the king spake unto Ashpnaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel and of the king's seed and of the princes, children in whom was no blemish, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

The king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, the wine which he drank, so nourishing them 3 years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

So Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are taken captive in Judah by Nebuchadnezzar, brought all the way to Babylon.

It was a terrible trip up and around the desert.

They had to go north and then back south in a U-shaped trajectory to get to Babylon, they probably had to walk most of that distance.

These were princes of Israel, Daniel, Sharek, Meshach, and Abed-Ninco.

When they get there, Nebuchadnezzar has a pretty sophisticated approach to try and control other nations and trying to civilize them, as it were, into Babylonian customs and culture.

So he would train them for 3 years in the language of the Babylonians, but he would nourish them on their diet.

And that's what the Bible said, it would give him a provision of the king's meat and of the wine which he drank.

Proverbs 23 probably came to mind to Daniel and the 3 Hebrew boys.

Proverbs 23 and verse 1 says, When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee, and put a knife to your throat if you be a man given to appetite.

Be not desirous of his dainties, for they are deceitful meat.

Solomon, wise Solomon, whom they would have known the teachings of Solomon, who's 1 of their ancestors in a sense, Solomon warned that when you go to sit before a king or a ruler, be careful what they put in front of you.

Because it's as if Solomon is suggesting that through the control of diet, the king or the ruler can control you.

Now, obviously, you can translate meats and breads into doctrinal or theological ideas.

So in a very kind of spiritual sense, you do have to be careful what you take in in terms of theology and doctrine.

But in another way, even physically what you eat can affect you, affect not just your health, but the way you think.

Says, be not desirous of his dainties, for they are deceitful meat.

In other words, they will use food to deceive you, to get the end that they want.

And to have a desire to control your appetite.

This is a billboard, a picture of a billboard that says, crafted for your craving.

1 of the top fast food joints in the country, fast food chains, says that their food is crafted, it's designed for your craving.

In fact, in America, the King of Babylon has been saying to eat.

The average restaurant meal today is more than 4 times larger than in the 1950s.

French fries went from an average of 2.4 ounces to 6.7 ounces from 1950 to now.

Burgers went from 3.9 ounces to 12 ounces.

Something has significantly changed not just in the size of the food portions but even in the way the food is crafted.

And I want to submit to you that in the end times, this is 1 of the ways, as we'll see more of it, that Satan is going to seek to lower your spiritual strength.

Babylon's Delicacies, salt, sugar, and fat.

Processed sugar, highly refined, with processed fats or animal fats, and of course, a massive exposure in humans to salt that is not capable if you just eat food in its natural form.

So New York Times Magazine put this article out back in 2013, I believe it was written by Michael Moss, and it says, The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food.

Somebody is trying to design food so that you'll buy more and more of it.

And I want to submit to you that I can find you the proof, in a sense, that someone is designing the food.

There's people called food scientists and food chemists, food engineers probably even.

But I want to submit to you that there is an ulterior motive.

Just as the serpent tried to control the appetite of Adam and Eve in the garden, he had a deceptive purpose to separate Adam and Eve from God.

Just as Lucifer met Christ, Satan met Christ in the wilderness of temptation and tempted him on the point of appetite.

So, to try and derail his mission on Earth.

So too, will Satan in the end times try and use appetite against us?

Well, 1 of the things they use, 1 of the ingredients, I won't talk about sugar much in this talk, maybe we'll talk about that in the afternoon.

1 of the things they do is they try and get you to reach a bliss point.

And this is a graph from 1 of the studies.

It says, the term bliss point was coined in the late 1990s by American market researcher and psychophysicist Howard Moskowitz.

He defined it as that sensory profile where you like the food the most.

They found that there is a certain amount of saltiness, that as you increase the saltiness, it either makes you like or dislike the food more and more.

So if there's little salt, it's not very good, but there's a bliss point that you reach where you can't almost say no to the food.

So what you'll find is that most food in the standard American diet, the SAD, the sad, the standard American diet is highly salted.

Contains tons of sodium, which is, sodium chloride is what makes salt, tons of salt.

And they do this because, 1, it is a preservative, but also because there's a bliss point.

And salt, you know, you become desensitized to it and eat more and more of it.

Studies show that increased salt intake increases your appetite, makes you actually eat more.

But we also know salt itself has the deleterious effects on the body, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and other problems.

So 1 of the things that's happened is that they've massively increased the amount of salt available in food.

And it doesn't matter if you buy Himalayan pink sea salt, or if you buy the fanciest organic salts they sell at Whole Foods, Salt is salt.

And if there's a ton of salt in your food, either because you buy it at a restaurant or buy it prepackaged, the salt is going to have its effect on you.

And for the purpose of our talk today, it will actually increase your appetite.

Well, so how do they, how does the devil get people hooked appetite wise?

Well, he starts when you're young, just as they came after Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they were just probably teenage boys to try and convince them of the ways of the Babylonian diet and culture, they come after our children the same way.

Because they know if your child starts drinking Coca-Cola rather than Pepsi when they're 6 and 7 years old, that is the drink they're gonna drink their whole life.

The fast food joint that they fall in love with is the 1 they're probably going to stick with most of the rest of their life.

And so they start young, and this cartoon shows you that even the government gets in on this.

There's a little bit of tomato paste dropped on the pizza.

And the little boy says, you guys are way cooler than the other lunch lady.

And of course, the lady squeezing the tubes says the food industry lobby.
