The Two Harvests

Father in heaven, thank you so much for gathering us together this morning.

Thank you Lord that you give us a Sabbath where we can put aside all our cares and our worries and our burdens and we can take the time and the opportunity to come and worship you in spirit and in truth.

Lord, your word is truth, but without your spirit to drive it home to our hearts, to open the understanding to our minds, it would be fruitless.

So we ask for your presence, we ask for your blessing, we ask for your leading now.

Guide us, O Lord, is our earnest plea and prayer, for we pray in Jesus' name.

So we've been looking at the 3 angels' messages.

And in Revelation 14, there are 3 parts really to this chapter.

The first 5 verses, it talks about this group, this special group called the 144, 000.

Then where we spent quite a few weeks already is the 3 angels messages from verse 6 all the way to verse 12.

And then at the very end, the third section, the last section, is what we call the 2 harvest, which is the title of my sermon this morning.

It's where Christ comes seated on His throne, and in His hand He has His sharpsicle, and He's ready to harvest the whole world.

What is the relationship of the 2 harvests to the 3 angels' messages?

How do all these 3 sections fit together?

I want you to consider a quote with me this morning in Last Day Events 68 paragraph 1.

In these last days, it is our duty to ascertain the full meaning of the first, second, and third angels' messages.

All our transactions should be in accordance with the Word of God.

The first, second, and third angels' messages are all united and are revealed in the 14th chapter of Revelation from the sixth verse To what?

So the 3 angels' messages, it goes from verse 6 all the way to the very end encompassing the 2 harvests.

Look at what else it says about this message.

Review and Herald, October 13, 1904, paragraph 2.

The 14th chapter of Revelation is a chapter of the deepest interest.

This scripture will be soon understood in all its bearings, and the messages given to John the Revelator will be repeated with distinct utterance." So friends, is the 3 Angels' Messages important?

Absolutely, inclusive of what we are studying today.

You know, the first 6 verses, I mean, verse 6 to 12, are really the most famous of the 3 angels' messages.

But this is the section that doesn't always gain or garner much attention.

Now in the book of Revelation, there are a lot of twos in terms of 2 groups.

There are 2 cities, New Jerusalem And there's also Babylon.

There is 2 leaders, the Lamb, which is of course Jesus Christ, and then there's the dragon.

We see the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in Revelation chapter 1 and then later on, I think it's chapter 15 or 16, we see the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.

There's also 2 suppers, the marriage supper of the Lamb, and then there's also the supper of the Great God.

There's also 2 mountains, Mount Zion, and then there's also what we call the Battle of Armageddon.

Well, the 3 angels' messages is to gather all of God's people and then in the 7 last plagues there's 3 unclean spirits that will go out and gather everyone to battle on the great day of God Almighty.

And so we see here in Revelation 14, 2 harvests.

Let's turn our Bibles to Revelation chapter 14 And let's read there in verse 13.

We ended at verse 12, the faith of Jesus, last week.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth.

Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours, and their works do follow them.

And upon the cloud 1 sat like unto the Son of Man, having on his head a golden crown and in his hand a sharp sickle.

And another angel came out of the temple crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, thrust in thy sickle and reap for the time is come for thee to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." Friends, look, here is where we see Christ coming and He has this sickle in His hand and He's ready to harvest the whole earth.

Now look, before the harvest can be harvested, before it can be gathered together and brought in, something had to take place first.

Consider this quote with me, found in Desire of Ages 785 paragraph 4.

For more than a thousand years, this symbolic ceremony had been performed.

From the harvest fields the first heads of ripened grain were gathered.

And when the people went up to Jerusalem to the Passover, the sheaf of first fruits was waved as a thank-offering before the Lord.

Not until this was presented could the sickle be put to the grain and it be gathered into sheaves.

Do you understand what she's describing here?

Look, the fruits that got ripe first, including the wheat, the grain, all of that, whatever got ripened first, that was gathered together, and it was what we call the first fruits, okay?

And it was waved before the Lord, and only then, after that, could the harvest go forward.

Nothing else was harvested, just the first fruits.

Now look, the first fruits is separate to the harvest.

It precedes the harvest and it comes first, then only the rest of the harvest can be gathered in.

Now, who are those that will be living at the time when Jesus Christ comes for a second time?

We find that in the beginning of the book of Revelation chapter 14.

And look at what the Bible describes of them in verse 4.

These are they which were not defiled with women, for they are virgins.

These are they which follow the Lamb, whithersoever He goeth.

These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb.

The hundred and forty-four thousand are the first fruits.

Now we know that Jesus Christ, He's described as the first fruit and he definitely is but in relation to the harvest there is a group that will be ripened first come to full maturity first before the second coming of Christ and It is those that are righteous that are alive, the hundred and forty-four thousand.

They will be fully mature before the harvest comes.

And God, He's still waiting for that group today.

Ellen White tells us that we should strive with all the power that God has given us to be part of that group.

So they must be ready before Revelation 14, the 2 harvests are to come to pass.

Let's go back to verse 14 of Revelation 14.

And upon the cloud 1 sat like unto the Son of Man, speaking of Jesus Christ.

A golden crown, and in his hand a sharpsicle.

He is no longer taken that role of priest anymore.

And then verse 15, And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud.

Thrust in thy sickle and reap, for the time is come for thee to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe." So we see here in verse 15, another angel comes out from where?

The temple and cries out to Jesus Christ to tell him, reap, for the harvest is come.
