Flight of The Youth

We're going to look at Isaiah chapter 49 and verse 25.

Isaiah 49 and verse 25 says, but thus saith the Lord, even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered.

For I will contend with him that contends with you, and I will save your children." And I will save your children.

Our message this Sabbath is entitled, Flight of the Youth.

Father God, we thank you for this opportunity to study your word in this very difficult and challenging topic.

I pray in a special way, Lord, that you send your Holy Spirit.

Father God, you just enlighten our minds to your truth.

Make me once again, Lord, just a nail upon the wall, a rusty, sorry nail, Lord.

But upon that nail, I ask that you hang a portrait of Jesus Christ.

Lord, Eric Walsh does not need to be seen or heard.

Today Father, we need to hear a word from you.

This is our prayer in Jesus' precious and holy name.

I pray everyone's doing well in the middle of this pandemic, which for a minute there, at least here in the States, we thought was ending, but has come roaring back with variants.

And we'll talk maybe more about that in a minute.

But I want us to go to the book of John, the sixth chapter.

John chapter 6, we're going to read starting at verse 47.

John chapter 6 and verse 47 says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believes on me has everlasting life.

Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness and are dead.

This is the bread which cometh down from heaven that a man may eat thereof and not die.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven.

If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever.

The bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." Here is an interesting passage of scripture.

And you would remember that bread in the Bible does signify sustenance, of course.

People talk about eating their bread as a kind of even sometimes as a colloquialism, just for having what you need in order to survive.

In the sanctuary service, as the bread, there were 2 stacks of 6 on the table of showbread.

He says, listen, your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, but eating manna didn't give them eternal life.

This bread came down from heaven that you may eat and not die.

He says, if you eat of this bread, you'll live forever.

"'And the bread that I will give is my flesh, "'which I will give for the life of the world.'" And I can imagine those listening were perplexed as the Bible is about to tell us.

In fact, in John 6, 52, it says, the Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, how can this man give us his flesh to eat?

They said, is he talking about cannibalism?

Jesus could read minds, and in John 6, 53, Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, except you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." Jesus takes it a step further and said, listen, it's not just the flesh.

If you have not ingested me, you cannot live.

Verse 54, whoso eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

He says, listen, If you eat me, if I'm in you, if I've been digested and absorbed and become a part of you, you won't die.

And on the last day, I will raise you from the dead.

Verse 55, for my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me, and I in him.

Jesus is talking about absorbing Him completely.

He talks about giving up His flesh because He does that on the cross.

Now He's talking about, you've got to get me, but you've got to also understand that in the beginning was the Word, John 1, just a few chapters earlier, 5 chapters earlier, John 1 and verse 1.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

He is saying, listen, you've got to take me.

John 6 and verse 57, As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats me, even he shall live by me.

Then he says, that is that bread which came down from heaven, not as your fathers did eat manna and are dead.

He that eats of this bread shall live forever.

And these things he said in the synagogue as he taught in Capernaum.

They must have been, this man is talking about, you see, church, spiritual things are spiritually discerned.

As Jesus is talking, they're not putting 2 and 2 together.

They're not understanding that you've got to plug in the other things that he said.

Jesus is speaking to the fact that he is the Word and we must eat the Word.

John 6 and verse 60 says, Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying.

They said, Wait, are we eating people To live forever?

Boy, this is, how can we even begin to wrap our minds around this?

Verse 61, when Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Does this offend you?

And I would pose this to each of you listening today.

Does the thought of truly digesting and incorporating Christ into your life and heart.

You see, it's spiritual things that are spiritually discerned.

If you take him and you eat his word, His flesh is his word.

If you eat it and you absorb it into your system, it becomes a part of you and you become like him.

And so all of a sudden, the frontal lobe of your mind begins to be transformed.

And so as you eat of the flesh of Christ, eating of his word, and I'm not talking about transubstantialism, like is believed in some religious observances, like the mass, where we believe that something physically becomes his flesh, it is a spiritual thing.

John 6 and verse 62 says, and what an if You shall see the Son of Man ascend up where He was before.

Jesus starts to make it plain to them, what if you saw me where I used to be?

It is the Spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profits nothing.

The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

He's trying to explain to them, listen, I'm not talking in the physical realm.

I'm not talking in the realm of the flesh.

He says, the words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life.

He says in verse 64, he says, but there are some of you that believe not.
