The Gospel in Prophecy

Let us bow our heads together for a word of prayer.

Father in heaven, we are grateful for the privilege to be alive and we are thankful for this opportunity to be together in these times.

We are thankful also for your word and for the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

We ask that the entrance of your word would bring light into all of our experiences today.

And we will be careful to give you and you alone all the praise, the honor, and the glory.

Well, I want to thank you all for having me out here to share with you all.

It's always a privilege to come and to share.

Many of the faces are different and new as they would be in a context such as this 1, but there are some familiar faces as well.

And I bring you greetings from my wife and our children.

My wife and I, we just celebrated 20 years of marriage together, and we have 4 wonderful children, Israel, Abigail, Gabriel, and Angel, and they wished that they could be here.

I spoke with them this morning, and they prayed for me as I prayed for them.

My name is Stephen Conway, and I come to you from the Metro Detroit area in Michigan.

And my family and I have been there since the end of 2006, ministering and serving.

We have spent time in Tennessee, in New Jersey, and in New York as well.

And currently, I serve as the pastor of the Detroit Northwest Seventh-day Adventist Church.

And we are engaged in planting a church in Midtown Detroit.

It is a part of an initiative, a general conference initiative for urban centers of influence.

And so we are happy to be a part of that initiative.

We have some exciting things that we are doing.

I think it is very interesting that the Urban Centers of Influence initiatives work the way they do.

1 of the things they want you to do first is to become financially independent, because they give you a little bit of money to get going.

And in order to do that, you need to start some sort of industry or something that can provide resources to continue to keep the ministry going.

And so our prayers and our efforts were going great.

We planned on opening a food truck and running it in downtown and midtown and we were so excited and then coronavirus hit and everything kind of just ground to a screeching halt.

So we still plan on opening that food truck or having that food truck, but now it's the last phase of what we are planning to do.

We're actually planning to start a daycare in the Midtown Detroit area.

1 of my favorite quotes is, as the twig is bent, the tree is, does anybody know how that goes?

As the twig is bent, the tree is...does anybody know how that goes?

As the twig is bent, the tree is inclined, right?

So a lot of the gospel ministry that we do is cutting down trees or trying to bend massive oaks.

And we could really, if we had foresight, we could make the task a little bit easier for ourselves in investing in young men and young women and influencing them while they are young.

And, you know, train up a child in the way he should go and so forth.

So we want to open a daycare and we want to be able to minister to young people.

We are also going to provide personal training services for those who want to make lifestyle training, grief recovery, counseling, and the likes of things.

Today I wanna speak to you under the title of a message called, The Gospel in Prophecy, The Gospel in prophecy.

I heard someone stand up and give a presentation, and in this presentation, their presentation was actually entitled, The Gospel versus prophecy.

And I respect and love the individual who was sharing it, but the crux of it was that we should be presenting the unique prophetic elements of our message and not presenting the gospel, because people already are familiar with the gospel but they are not familiar with the unique prophetic elements of our message.

So that spurred me to some thinking and re-looking at some things.

To Luke chapter 4, and I was sharing with Luke and his brother and brother Reed that you know I was still trying to figure out what I was going to talk about.

And they were like, oh, I know what they were thinking though.

Like, This brother don't know what he's gonna talk about.

It's not that I didn't know what I was gonna talk about.

I have 2 things in mind that I wanted to share with you and I'm gonna try to give them both to you.

Luke chapter 4 verse 17 the gospel in prophecy and there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Yeah, yeah.

Okay you there and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written.

To set at liberty them that are bruised verse 19 to preach you know I love these passages because in them, you know, what Jesus does is he actually blends the gospel and prophecy together.

Obviously he says that the spirit of the Lord is upon him because he's been anointed to preach the gospel.

But Jesus goes on to say in verse 19 that he is also preaching the acceptable year of the Lord.

This is a reference to the year of Jubilee and of course when it comes to the reckoning of time prophecy in Daniel chapter 9 there were essentially 10 Jubilees until the end of the 490 years of prophecy would be reached.

Jesus was at 1 in the same time presenting his mission to share the gospel and also reminding his hearers that the end of prophetic time was literally upon them.

And so, from the words of Jesus, you and I cannot, should not, separate the gospel from our prophetic message.

If that's clear let me hear you say amen.

Now I want to share with you an example of what happens when we do that.

Open your Bibles now to 2nd Samuel chapter 11.

2 Samuel chapter 11, and it came to pass, verse 1, after the year was expired at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Raba.

But David tarried still at Jerusalem and it came to pass in an evening tide that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king's house and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself and the woman was very beautiful to look upon and David sent and inquired after the woman and 1 said is not this Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam the wife of Uriah the Hittite and David sent messengers and took her and she came in unto him and he lay with her for she was purified from her uncleanness, and she returned unto her house.

Verse 5, and the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

How many of you are familiar with this story?

Okay good So I can just you know summarize for you, right?

So David sends for Uriah Uriah comes home and David says, man, you're such a special guy, I just chose you.

Why don't you go home and just, you know, wash your feet and enjoy yourself?

So it's told to David that Uriah hasn't gone home.

The ark of God and the people of God are intense.
