And we're going to get right into things.

This seminar is scheduled to go for an hour, and I have an hour's worth of material.

Now as we get started, I'm going to let you know you're not going to have anything up here to keep up with, to write.

We're going to be doing a Bible study, so I hope you have your Bible with you or your phone or your iPad.

I would encourage you to have whatever your note-taking device is, whether that be – I tell people I'm an analog man trapped in a digital world.

For the younger generation that is here, this is a pen, and there's this stuff called paper, and I have found that my Usage of pen and paper is more helpful.

You know, I teach preaching classes, and I tell my young preachers to print their sermon.

And I will tell you that I was in the middle of Zimbabwe using my iPad to preach, and something happened that I had never seen happen before because it was sunny there in Zimbabwe as I was out holding my iPad and I'm preaching away, John Bradshaw's notes, and then all of a sudden I looked at my iPad and it said overheated and it shut down and that was a lesson that was a lesson and I tell my preachers even in evangelism when you have slides Better print those slides because sometimes a projector doesn't always work and I'm not against technology I just want to encourage you to do some note-taking today.

Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for the time that we have here together.

And as we spend some moments talking about fearing you alone, biblical manhood in the 21st century, I pray that you would give us guidance through this seminar that we would glorify and honor your name We pray in Jesus name.

Amen So and I and I you know, I didn't Do all the little who am I and all this kind of stuff.

For those of you that don't know me, my name is Chris Holland.

I am the senior evangelist for the Hope Channel.

I also am the president of the Living Hope School of Evangelism, which is the school of evangelism Mark Finley started in Haymarket, Virginia.

I pastored the Hagerstown Church for just over 3 years.

I also taught just down the way at Highland View Academy while I was the pastor of the Hagerstown Church.

And so I've been in these parts for a good chunk of my ministry, and so I appreciate the time here.

We're going to go back in time, and we're going to go to the ancient kings of Israel.

And some of you might be asking why would we look at the kings of Israel when we're talking about biblical manhood and I appreciated Jason's question because it is a question actually when he said it I was like oh that's a good question to answer why would we look at the kings of Israel the kings of Judah when we're talking about biblical manhood We have to remember that at that time, the children of Israel, while not operating directly as a theocracy, because now they had a king, in the, shall we call it, the organizational set-up of Judah, God was the head, the king was the mouthpiece directing and leading the people That should sound familiar because that is the structure of the home.

And if you are a single man, He's calling upon you in your singleness to be a leader.

Then the wife, while yes, submissive to the husband, the Bible says that the husband and wife submit to 1 another, but the husband is the leader of the home, listening to God.

And so why do we draw on the lessons from the kings of Judah?

Because it has direct correlation to the leadership in the home.

And you know, a lot of times, and I say this jokingly when I'm preaching, isn't it always an interesting thing that on Mother's Day, pastors get up and speak of the virtues of motherhood and it's just so sweet and talk about mothers and mothers get all the flowers, but then on Father's Day as preachers we get up and we just throw down fire and brimstone upon the men because we're just not living up to what we're called to do.

That's not what today's going to be about.

Today's going to be about looking, looking, and now I will tell you If you did not want to be challenged today, then I'm going to encourage you to Probably find a different seminar not to say that my other colleagues won't be challenging people There's challenging stuff and what I'm going to say, but it's challenging to me.

This is something of value of each of us.

And I'm going to use a word that's not popular in the 21st century, for each of us to become accountable before God.

So let's go back in time and again, we're going to be moving at a fairly quick pace because I have a lot to cover.

And for those of you that at the end want more information, you just talk to me, I would be, cause I'm a manuscript preacher.

So I'd be happy to make my manuscript available to you if you would like it.

So let's first go to 2nd Kings chapter 12 and verse 3 2nd Kings chapter 12 and verse 3 And what we're going to look at is a generational problem.

And we can see when we look at this generational problem, I want you to take note, okay?

I want you to see if you take note of it.

Something that I've been doing in my own personal journey, in my own personal devotions, is I've been listening through the Bible.

Rather than reading, I've been listening through it.

There is a different experience, and I'm not saying there's 1 more virtuous than the other, it was just something I wanted to do.

The closing thought today will come out of the book of Ezekiel.

Now I don't know how you are with the book of Ezekiel, But I will tell you throughout my time as a Christian when you get into the book of Ezekiel and it starts talking about The beings with wings and a wheel and fire and all this other kind of stuff I Then go past the book of Ezekiel, you know, and I'm sorry.

I'm just I'm just admitting that to you But listening through the book let me share an experience that I had.

All of a sudden I noticed this phrase, this phrase, this phrase that happened over and over again, that they would know that I am the Lord.

That phrase occurs in the book of Ezekiel some 78 times.

That should, that should, when you're listening to something and you hear somebody say something 78 times that should spark like oh Well, maybe God was trying to send a message That phrase occurs 95 times by the way throughout the Bible and this is unrelated to the seminar But related from the fact of I'm going to read a couple of texts and I want you to listen very carefully because when we listen, we pick up things that we don't pick up sometimes.

By the way, just to kind of give you the Reader's Digest convert, because some of you are like, oh, well, that I may know that they would know that I am the Lord.

You know, we often quote in our evangelistic meetings about the Sabbath, right?

The Sabbath is a sign between me and them.

Why is, why are we living in a world that's having a difficult time identifying the God of heaven as Lord?

There are actually 6 points when you look at this phrase that they would know that I am the Lord.

There are about 6 points there of God wanting us all of this happening.

Why does prophecy exist that we would know that God is God?

Why does the salvation experience exist that we would know that he is God?

So on and so forth, but that's another topic for another time.

In 2nd Kings chapter 12 and verse 3 I want you to notice and I'm what what I'm asking you to listen for is 3 words.

3 words that should be troubling to us, but 3 words that will lead to the demise of us as men if we don't take note of them.

In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash became king and he reigned 40 years in Jerusalem.

I'm sorry I'm in verse 1, 2nd Kings chapter 12 verse 1.

His mother's name was Zibia of Beersheba.

Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him, but the high places were not taken away.

The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

So we read that and all seems well and good.

Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the Lord.

In the second year of Jehoash, son of Jehoash, king of Israel, Amaziah, the son of Joash, king of Judah, became king.

Jehoash, just so you don't get thrown off, Jehoash is sometimes referred to as Joash and then to make it even more confusing there was a Joash who was also king in Israel in Addition to a king in Judah.

We are now talking about the kings of Judah.

Okay So this is Joash's or Jehoash's son who is Amaziah Skipping down to verse 3 in 2nd Kings 14.

And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like his father David.

He did everything as his father Jehoash had done.

However, the high places were not taken away and the people still sacrifice and burn incense on the high places.

I was in 2nd Kings 14 verses 1 through 4.

Some of you might be saying now, Pastor Holland, why are you making a big deal?

He did what was right in the sight of the Lord.
