Russia in End Time Prophecy

Good morning, our topic is Russia in end time prophecy.

I realize once I got into it, I might have bit off more than I can chew.

I don't know if you have the slides here.

If you're new to prophecy, this may be a little bit of indigestion of too much information.

But I'm gonna do some review and we're gonna be diving into Daniel 11 after doing a short review.

If you have your Bibles with you, you could turn to Daniel 11 if you'd like.

We're mainly gonna be looking into 1 verse, verse 40 of Daniel 11, Russia and end time Bible prophecy.

I think just current events always make me think about prophecy and where, you know, we find ourselves.

You have to be careful when studying future prophecies not to look at the news too much because you can always think that the news is being fulfilled in prophecy and sometimes you can make some rash decisions, you know, And we've kind of been guilty of that as a people, in some cases, trying to appoint, for example, Turkey as the king of the north, I think was kind of a rash move, looking at the news too much.

And so we have to be careful of that, but I don't see, just so you know kind of where I'm at from the beginning, I don't see Russia by name in prophecy, but I do feel that it's quite clear that it is involved.

And So I think it's good for us to reflect on that because it helps us to know exactly where we are in this point of earth's history.

And we can be praying for the events that are soon to take place on this earth.

And so that is what our topic is today, is really a study of the time of the end.

And I'm glad that I just saw on the bulletin that the the sparrows are having a study at their house at 05:00 on the time of the end.

So that would be a good follow-up to some of this.

We've got a bit to cover here, so let's just ask a blessing before we get into it.

Father, as we open your Word, we want to pray for your Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and understanding, help us to understand these scripture passages, and to understand the implications to today, and where we are in the history of this world and that we see that through these prophecies we will see that signs are all around us that Jesus is surely coming soon.

So we just ask for your Holy Spirit to bless us and help us now is our prayer in Jesus' name.

Okay, well if you would look at the screen here for introduction, we're going to be just reviewing quickly the prophecies of Daniel.

There are 4 main key prophecies in Daniel in chapters 2, 7, 8, and 11.

And so just for some review, we'll look at chapter 2 here quickly.

Chapter 2, you may know, has this image that was shown to Nebuchadnezzar, which God helped Daniel to interpret, with the head of gold and the chest of silver and so forth, and this rock without hands, destroying it, symbolic of the second coming of Christ.

Through a study of Daniel 2, and along especially with chapters 7 and 8, we can see clearly that these are, as Daniel was shown, that these represent kingdoms.

The chest of silver represented an inferior nation that was able to overcome Babylon, which was even prophesied in Scripture in other places, in Isaiah and so forth.

And so the chest of silver represented the Medo-Persian Empire, followed by Greece, followed by Rome, followed by the feet of iron mixed with miry clay representative of a divided world and also had church and state implications.

The iron being the state, the clay being the church, mingling together in the last days.

You might say the toes also may represent a divided, the world being in a divided state.

But then you see the stone cut without hands.

This is God himself coming to put an end to the nations of this world's efforts to control the world.

And at the second coming of Jesus, Jesus will set all things right.

So that's a great start from these prophecies, of the prophecies of Daniel.

And then we go into Daniel chapter 7, And now we don't see metals and we don't see an image, but we see beasts.

We see a lion and a bear and a leopard and a great and dreadful beast.

And through analyzing and studying those, we can see clearly a repetition of chapter 2, a lining up of the head of gold with the lion and the chest of silver with the bear and so forth.

Much more description of chapter 7 after following imperial Rome, the legs of iron, and here in this case in chapter 7 it was this great and dreadful beast.

A little horn comes out of this beast that becomes mighty and strong, bigger than all the rest, persecutes God's people, continues for 1260 years.

A clear depiction of the papacy is described there.

We also see the judgment scene depicted in chapter 7 following the papacy.

So a repetition, also then chapter 8, we have the ram with 2 horns that is replaced by an aggressive attack by this he-goat with 1 notable horn.

And so, and this was really in the time of the interpretation was in the days of the Medo-Persian Empire when Daniel lived in that time.

So in that vision it started with the Medo-Persian Empire, went to Greece, Rome, Papacy, very exact same progression.

So while we're studying Daniel 11, I point this out, it's very important for framework that we understand that this is the progression of the first 3 visions of Daniel.

We might expect that the last vision may also repeat that same framework, but give more detail, because as we go from vision to vision, there's more detail given.

Of course, we don't have time to go into all the details given in chapter 7 and 8.

But we'll look at briefly at the last vision here.

So the last vision of Daniel is there's an introduction given in chapter 10 for it showing Daniel praying and trying to have understanding.

He's living in the days of the Medes and the Persians, but yet God's people weren't free, and so he had all these questions, and he was praying, and the angel Gabriel came and gave him this vision and interpretation.

The vision primarily is chapter 11 and the first few verses of 12 with the interpretation with the verses following.

Just looking for some more context here for this last and final vision that God gave to Daniel.

In chapter 10, verse 14, Gabriel said, "'Now I am come to make you understand "'what shall befall your people in the latter days, "'for yet the vision is for many days." So the context of the final vision is of course the time of the end, the last days, and the context of the vision is not...

It involves what happened to God's people in the days of Daniel and of many times, but the emphasis is on the time of the end.

And primarily this vision is for God's people living in the last day.

So we need to understand more Daniel chapter 11 because this is very important for us.

It has to do with God's people that are living in the time of the end.

So what I'm gonna do because I mean we could spend hours and hours studying just Daniel chapter 11, we're just gonna overview to show that progression of the nations.

It starts off right away in chapter, in verse 2 it says, And now I will show thee the truth.

Behold, there shall stand up yet 3 kings in Persia, and the fourth shall be richer than they all." So right away is very easy.

Bible prophecy is not so hard to understand.

Okay, so we know just like in chapter 8, this 1 is starting with the Medo-Persian Empire.

And so, since this vision was given in the third year of Cyrus, that's what it said in chapter 10.

The reference here is doubtless referring to the 4 kings who followed Cyrus on the throne of Persia.

If you want this slideshow afterwards, I'm happy to share that with you.

And then before the second verse is even finished, it already mentions Greece.

And so, So who's this mighty king talking about here?

Yeah so Greece it was that that he go that that that destroyed the ram and then that horn was broken and 4 came up behind it because as we know Alexander the Great, the first king of Greece that conquered all this territory, suddenly died, unexpectedly died, and his territory was divided into 4 main regions.

And so now the next several verses describe those regions and the battles between those regions.

And this is really important because it just it kind of focuses on these terms the king of the south and the king of the north it uses that terms a lot in those in those verses after that and it's largely describing the the tension and the warfare between this Greek Empire that was being pulled apart and everyone's trying to get power and a peace and the king of the south was controlled by the region of Egypt was controlled by the Platonis and then you have the the Syrians the Syrian area was was ruled by the Seleucids and these were divisions of the Greek Empire, and they were in conflict with 1 another.

And it seems clear that they're referred to as the North and the South in reference to Israel, which is in the middle.

Egypt is south of Israel, Syria north of Israel, and so it seems that's where those directions come from because really all of these visions and all these nations have to do with Israel because they are, they're not the only nations that were around in the world.

Not every nation is depicted in these visions of Daniel, but these were the nations that affected God's people.

God's people were living in the days of Babylon, in that territory, and Medo-Persia, and Greece, and Rome, and so forth.

We've lived under the oppression of the papacy, and so forth, as a people, Christians.

And so this is dealing with, so Israel is central in all of this.

And so that's why I believe that the king in the north and south are depicted that way.

Okay, we're going to move a little bit now.

So Daniel 11, we see already in the first little section there, we see Persia and Greece.
