The Principle of GIGO on Pandemics: Reaping What We Sow

So let's talk about today about the Giggle Principle and pandemics.

If you're not into computer science, I'll explain to you what this Giggle Principle is in a minute.

What happened around us is something that Jesus predicted a long time ago.

If you go to Matthew 24, Jesus is describing the news of today.

It says there that they shall be rise nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom.

Man, you just open, isn't it, the newspaper And you will see that there's this 1 is fighting against that 1.

That 1 is getting prepared to fight against this other 1 and so forth.

It also says there that there's gonna be famines.

Actually, I was in 1 of those hot spots in Africa just a few days ago.

It says there there's going to be earthquakes in many places.

From 1900 to 1910, there were 3 earthquakes in that 10-year period, 6.0 and higher.

From the year 1990 to the year 2000 there were 943 earthquakes 6.0 and higher.

Humongous the difference between 1 and another.

And see the language of Matthew 24 is like a woman that is about to give birth.

If you ever witness that, you will see that those contractions get more powerful and they become more closer to each other.

And that baby is coming out without the doctor, with the doctor, or in spite of the doctor.

In fact, you don't even need to be a church goer to see this situation.

You go and talk to somebody outside and they're gonna tell you things are not the way they used to be.

And the last thing that is mentioned here in Matthew 24 7 is that there were gonna be pestilences.

And we have so much light about this, how the signs of the end are rapidly fulfilling.

And as it says in Acts of the Apostles, the world is hastening to the time when the Son of Man shall be revealed in the clouds of heaven." And see, today we're going to talk about a fascinating subject, and that subject is what is called the emerging infectious diseases.

Emerging infectious diseases are diseases that either in the past we thought we had the control over them and there is a resurgence of them.

Or it's a whole group of new diseases that we had never heard about them before.

And in fact if you get scared about this COVID-19 wait till you get, till you see the next pandemic.

It's gonna be called the pandemic influenza.

Think about infectiousness of a COVID-19, but with a mortality rate of 30, 40, 50%, it's coming.

And I'm gonna tell you where is it gonna come.

Now, an example of 1 of those new emerging infectious diseases, we go back to 1981.

1981, if you want to put it in your head, when was this?

It was when Ronald Reagan used to be president.

The CDC puts out on a regular basis this MMWR report in which new diseases and things that are new in the medical field that require our attention comes out.

And in that report in 1981, they reported that here in Los Angeles, there was a small group of homosexual males with a very strange, very uncommon type of pneumonia.

We see it in the medical field, a lot of pneumonia, but this is what is called an atypical pneumonia, not your usual pneumonia.

Did you know that this is the very first time that in a science paper it was reported what today became the epidemic of AIDS.

From that small group of males, today 36 million people have died of AIDS worldwide.

Today we are gonna learn where did it come from.

So we know that you know promiscuous sexual activity, illegal IV drugs and so forth have fueled this epidemic worldwide.

But where did it came from in the first place?

We're talking about Ebola, West Nile virus, Lyme disease, mad cow disease, and the list goes on and on and on of those new emerging infectious diseases.

Now we have a tool that help us try to find the cause or the origin of these diseases and that is the field of medical anthropology.

So let's see some examples of diseases that we have been able to trace to their origin.

Smallpox came from the contact, close contact of humans with camels.

That's a way that the camelpox mutated and ended up in the human.

Whooping cough, because of vaccination you don't see this very much, but in the old days this was a very common disease.

This cough, they even get purple from so much coughing.

There's a reason why in Leviticus 11, it says, don't have pigs, don't eat pigs.

And even it says in the verse 8, don't even touch the pig.

And you know, a very interesting experiment happened 600 years ago when interchange of humanity started moving around when the Spanish came here to the coast of the continent of America.

They brought many diseases that were not here in this continent.

In fact, half of the population in Mexico had died just in a matter of 60 years from the first time that the Spanish came.

Due to those contagious diseases, a disaster came when Christopher Columbus on his second trip brought some pigs and they had an epidemic of this pig influenza and wiped out a lot of people.

In fact, by 1618, the population of the Aztecs, the Indians in Mexico, had dropped from 18 million to 1.6 million.

Now typhoid fever, where did it come from?

Naturally in the intestine of the chickens this bug lives.

In fact the majority of the eggs actually have typhoid.

Also, this tremendous disease, human measles, that has killed more than 200 million people, came from the close contact of cows and sheep.

Influenza came with the close contact of ducks and humans.

Do you think that those ducks that are flying there, you know, in the sky are the ones that infect the humans?

No, you have to be in close contact with them, you have to domesticate this creature, you have to hang around close to it for this creature you know to sneeze or somehow you know exchange those fluids and give you that.

Leprosy, very well documented, it came from the close contact of the water buffalo, this creature that in in Asia they actually have it quite a bit, and also armadillo, There's actually many places that they eat the armadillo.

And then also the common cold came via horses, close contact of the horses and humans.

If you are interested in the topic, this is an excellent book, Guns, Germs, and Steel.

And Jared Diamond, the author, explains how the diseases were flowing from the Europeans into the natives, and not the other way around, just for a few exceptions.

Syphilis came from the natives here to the Europeans.

And then once they brought it to Europe they started blaming each other Oh, is there you know the blame of the Portuguese?

No, it's the Italians No, it's the French and they would start to blame each other who started the whole mess there So how come those diseases were?

Affecting those natives of this continent and not the other way around.

And it has to do with the fact that there was no husbandry here in this continent.

See the Spanish brought the cows, they brought the pigs, they brought the goats, they brought the horses, they brought the chickens.

Sure, Sometimes they would eat meat, for example a buffalo, but they didn't have it in a contained place.

Those buffalo were running wild, they would kill 1 of them and then eat them.

In the chapter there of The book I just told you, chapter 11, in the chapter of the little gift of livestock, he explains that with quite a bit of detail.

Now because there was no pigs, there was no pertussis, there was no whooping cough, there was no chickens, there was no typhoid fever, and the list goes on and on and on.

While at the same time, if you go to a history book and start checking the history of Europe, you would see how the Europeans would get hit over and over with all kinds of plagues on a regular basis.

And some of them were extremely deadly, like the Black Dead, which wiped out half of the population in Europe, the Italian plague, the plague of London, the plague in France in Marseille, the third plague, over and over on a cyclical basis, they would be hidden with these pandemics.
