You're listening to Amazing Facts Bible Study Guide, Lesson number 12.

You can be certain that it's coming, An incredible millennium that will be ushered in after Christ's return.

The devil doesn't want you to know about his 1, 000-year prison sentence because it reveals his true character.

Indeed, Satan has concocted a counterfeit message for the millennium just to trick you.

This is a fascinating study that could very well shake up everything you've heard.

But now you can know the Bible's amazing facts about the soon coming 1000 years.

Okay, let's get right to your first question.

The resurrection at Jesus' return marks the beginning of the 1, 000-year period.

They lived, came alive, and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

So who will be raised in this resurrection?

Let's look at a Bible verse that describes this.

Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.

So this is called the first resurrection and the saved, the blessed and holy from all ages will be raised in it.

Okay, so if this is the first resurrection, does that mean there is a second 1?

The rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished.

In which all who are in the graves will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation." So, you see, the second resurrection takes place at the close of the 1, 000 year period.

Those who are not saved will be raised in this resurrection.

It's called the resurrection of condemnation.

Please notice that the resurrection of the saved begins the 1, 000 years and the resurrection of the lost concludes it.

Does anything else happen at the beginning of the 1, 000 years?

Yes, there are several events that take place as the 1, 000 years begin.

Behold, he is coming with clouds and every eye will see him.

1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 16 and 17.

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

And there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on earth.

And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent." A talent, it is estimated, weighs between 58 and 100 pounds.

So we can see that at this time the most devastating hailstorm and earthquake in history will strike the earth.

Then Jesus returns in the clouds for his people and all the saved are caught up into the air to meet him.

What will happen to the living people who are not saved?

Isaiah chapter 11 verse 4, with the breadth of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

2 Thessalonians chapter 1 verses 7 and 8, When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, taking vengeance on those who do not know God.

Let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

Those who are alive yet lost will be slain by the very presence of Christ at his second coming.

When an angel appeared at Jesus's tomb, the entire group of Roman guards fell as dead men.

When the brightness of all the angels, God the Father, and God the Son combined, those who are not saved will die as if hit by lightning.

The wicked that are already dead when Jesus returns will remain in their graves until the end of the 1, 000 years.

Will the people who are lost have a chance to repent of their sins during the 1, 000 years?

By that time, the chance for repenting will be over.

The slain of the Lord shall be from 1 end of the earth even to the other end of the earth.

They shall not be lamented or gathered or buried.

It will be impossible for any person to repent during the 1, 000 years Because there will not be a human alive on the earth.

All the wicked will be laying dead upon the earth.

Revelation chapter 22 makes it clear that the case of every person is closed before Jesus returns, those who wait to accept Christ until the 1, 000 years begin will have waited too long.

Okay, well what is the bottomless pit that the Bible talks about?

Revelation chapter 20 verses 1 through 3 that serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and he cast him into the bottomless pit, till the thousand years were finished." The word for bottomless pit in the original Greek is abyssos or Abyss.

That same word is used in Genesis chapter 1 in the Greek version of the Old Testament in connection with the creation of the earth but there it is translated deep.

The earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep.

The words deep, bottomless pit, and abyss here refer to the same thing.

The earth in its totally dark disorganized form before God made order of it.

Jeremiah chapter 4 in describing this earth during the thousand years uses virtually the same terms as these in Genesis chapter 1.

Without form and void, no light, no man, and black.

So the battered dark earth with no people alive will be called the bottomless pit or abyss during the thousand years.

Just as it was in the beginning before creation was completed.

Also, Isaiah chapter 24 speaks of Satan and his angels as being gathered in the pit and shut up in the prison during this time.

What is the chain that binds Satan and why is he bound?

Well, the chain is symbolic, a chain of circumstances.

Revelation chapter 20 verses 1 through 3, an angel having a great chain in his hand laid hold of Satan and bound him for a thousand years and shut him up and set a seal on him so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished." Of course, a supernatural being cannot be combined with a literal chain.

Satan is tied down because he has no people to deceive.

The unsaved are all dead, and the saved are all in heaven.

The Lord confines the devil to this earth so he cannot roam the universe hoping to find someone to deceive.

Forcing the devil to stay on the earth alone with his demons for a thousand years, with no 1 to deceive, will be for him the most galling chain ever forged.

What happens in heaven during the thousand years?

The people who were saved from all ages will participate in the judgment.

I saw thrones and they sat on them and judgment was committed to them and they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?

Do you not know that we shall judge angels?

The cases of all who were lost, including the devil and his angels, will be reviewed.

This judgment will clear up any questions the saved might have about those who were lost.
