Can There Be a Way Out of Drugs and Criminality?: Samir’s Journey

I had a void in my soul that no amount of drugs or alcohol could fill.

Sometimes I spent hours alone in the woods crying out for help, but God intervened in my life in an amazing way.

My name is Sami Belmeki, and I'm born and raised in Sweden.

My father is from Morocco and he was a non-practicing Muslim.

And my mother is Swedish and she was not a believer, So I grew up with no religion.

When my father was young, he used to be beaten by his father.

And when I was a child, my father used to beat me.

So I think that's where my insecurities started.

I became a kid with a double life, like a Dr.

On 1 hand, I was good at sports and was accepted, but on the other hand, I was with my friends and did a lot of bad things.

When I was about 7 years old, I was stealing little things, like chewing gum.

After a few years, I stole clothes, perfumes, and When I went into high school, I was drinking alcohol and experimenting with sex and drugs.

I soon began to sell drugs and stolen goods.

I drove to different places and I broke into houses.

When I was young I was caught a lot by police and they drove me home and my parents got angry and they grounded me.

My young life was formed by criminality and later I went into custody.

This went on until I was about 20 years old.

I had stolen goods at my parents place and the police did a house search.

After that my parents said that they had enough of me.

They asked me if I wanted to move to Spain, hoping that if I were away from my bad friends I would change.

I thought this sounds like a vacation, why not?

Drugs were much cheaper so I continued using, stealing and lying.

I had lied since I was very young and by this time I was in a spiral of lying to the point that it was very hard to keep track of my own life.

Anyway, I met a girl there and we got together and since she was studying hotel management, I decided to do the same, to get a degree in hotel and restaurant management.

After a while, we were expecting a baby, and my parents hoped that now, now my life would change.

Unfortunately, the old bad habits continued.

I got a break and I received a job offer at Radisson in Stockholm.

I became good at what I was doing and I really loved to serve people but my double life continued and my relationship with my girlfriend really started to fall apart And later on I moved to Norway to help another chain to open a hotel.

And I was rubbing shoulders with a lot of rich people but I was still taking drugs.

And suddenly different thoughts came into my mind.

And I couldn't wrap my mind around these thoughts.

I talked to some of my friends in Norway because I wanted to have answers to my questions but they said Sami don't talk so much.

And I was advancing when it came to my career but my soul was drying up.

So I decided to quit my work, move back to Sweden and find a purpose in life.

Browsing the internet, 2 topics caught my attention.

The first was conspiracies and how people behind the scenes are controlling the world.

I started to invest my money in alternative currencies.

I bought silver, I bought gold and I buried it in the ground.

And I also met a guy called Daniel on the internet who helped me to invest in a new currency called bitcoin.

The plan was to hunker down in the forest with a diesel generator.

So I bought myself 2 tons of dried, freezed food.

The second topic was new age and spiritualism, meditation and yoga and I started to buy myself amulets and stones in order to receive energy from the universe.

So I went into the forest and I started to sing, I started to scream for hours and I was really desperate for help.

After 6 months of this I didn't make any progress.

I talked to different people from different religions, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Hare Krishna, But I only saw religion as a tool to control people.

I was searching for love, but I didn't find love anywhere.

I was attracted by certain symbols, like the number 3 and the Greek letters alpha and omega and I started to go to different churches but I didn't know why.

Sometimes I went inside, sometimes I just walked around outside.

1 day I felt the urge to go back to my old work at Radisson.

I saw a guy that was handing out pamphlets in the streets.

And I thought for myself, I had never taken a pamphlet, so I'm not going to take any.

But the voice inside of me said 3 times Sami you take a pamphlet and Just because that voice said it 3 times, I decided to take a pamphlet.

And the man that gave me the pamphlet, he suddenly grabbed my arm and said to me, Jesus is the truth, the way and the life.

And I looked down at the pamphlet and when I looked up again the man was gone.

In 2016 during Christmas I went out with my friends and we drank a lot of alcohol.

I was smoking and taking cocaine and the next day I felt really sick and this went on for 6 days without eating or drinking and with stomach ache and On the seventh day.

I said to my parents, please take me to the hospital.

I was 30 years old and I thought that the drugs had caught up with me.

The doctors did a lot of tests and they put me on drip and I was just afraid that they would find the drugs within me.

But they didn't find anything and they just told me that you can go home the next day and I was discharged.

And since that day I haven't had any need of any drugs, any alcohol, any cigarettes.

And now when I think about it, I know that it's a miracle from God.

A few weeks later I met with Daniel, we had a dinner and we talked about conspiracies and how the future is so bleak.

And he said, Samir, don't worry, God will help you.

And when he said God, I got really frustrated and angry because I told him, where is God when we need Him?

Don't You see all of the suffering in the world.

Don't you see the women being raped, the children abused?

And in the evening Daniel asked me if I wanted to go with him to church.

And the next day was a Saturday, so I said, yeah, why not?

And I went with him to the Seventh-day Adventist church in Stockholm.

And when I came there, I had long hair like I had before, and I had my reggae sweater, and I had golden amulets around my neck.

And that morning they had a Bible study and I had never opened a Bible before but I was really happy.

I was singing within myself And I was just listening because they were talking about the number 3.

They were talking about the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

And I realized that Jesus was the Alpha and Omega, that Jesus was the truth and the way and the life.

And all of the things that I have been thinking about, the number 3 and everything just clicked in my mind and it went from my head to my heart and I felt such a peace like someone took his hand and grabbed my heart and gave me a new heart and I knew that everything was good and I started to cry And I started to read and study the Bible, and slowly got answers to my questions.

And 1 brother from the church, Ardavast, showed me the prophecies of the Bible, especially from the book of Daniel.
