The 3 Parts to God’s Will

This morning we are going to discuss the 3 parts of God's will.

I almost called this sermon, find out if you're fully surrendered in 3 minutes.

You'll find out why as we get to the end.

You know there are several major questions in the Christian life.

1 of the very big ones is what is God's will for my life?

And this comes up over and over because life has a lot of different phases as you move throughout life.

Life has a lot of different aspects, a lot of facets.

You know, where does God want me to go to school?

Should I be involved in ministry, full-time, part-time?

And you know, finding God's will for your life is like finding gold.

The reason why that is is because God is the 1 who created you.

God knows exactly where you are going to be the most fulfilled.

God knows exactly who you would be the most fulfilled with.

God knows the path that's gonna make you the happiest.

God knows the place where you're gonna be the most productive, where you're gonna thrive.

We think we know that about ourselves, but we don't, in fact.

He also knows what trials you need to pass through in order to make your character ready for heaven.

True happiness, true fulfillment is only found in the will of God.

And that's why finding God's will is like finding gold.

And for the Christian this is huge because the the motto of the Christian life is not my will but thy will be done.

As a matter of fact, we become Christians by surrendering our wills to God.

That is the doorway, that is the entryway of Christianity.

When the person is placed under the surface, it's a symbol that the old person, the old self has died and someone new is coming up.

It's not my will anymore, it's what God wants from my life, where God wants me to live, what God wants me to say, who He wants me to be around.

And what God's will is, it's a big topic.

This sermon isn't so much going to go over, it's not gonna be focused on how you find God's will.

We'll touch on it a bit, I'll give you some principles, but this sermon is going to be focused on what happens after you have found God's will.

Now, this is really important because after someone has found God's will, we feel like we've arrived.

But we can make a huge mistake after this point.

And we could make a decision after we have found God's will.

We could make decisions that could hurt the rest of our earthly life.

So when someone surrenders to God and they find God's will for them, God says, you know what, you wanted to go to this school, I want you to go to that school.

And it's a struggle, then they surrender, okay God, I'm going to that school.

Or maybe they wanted a certain career and God says, you know, that's not the career I have for you.

And it's a big struggle because they wanted to be this their whole life.

And then they surrender and they do what God wants.

It's a big deal for someone to surrender their life, their will to God.

And when they do, it's like, wow, what a relief.

Where you wanted something and God's will was something else and it was all it was a fight and then you surrendered and it was just peace, peace.

And you realize how much of your internal turmoil is just you fighting with God, just you fighting God's will.

And you feel like I've arrived, problem solved, I have finally surrendered to God's will.

You really just have to experience it to really know what it's like.

But right here at this point, there's still a very big challenge that the Christian faces and we can make a big mistake here that could actually ruin the rest of our lives if we don't understand something.

And the reason why there's a problem here is because there are 3 parts to God's will 3 parts Here they are Part number 1 is the what that's what we've been talking about.

Part number 2 is the when When I want you to do that, the timing.

And that is how He is going to bring about the will that He has revealed He wants for you.

So there's the what, there's the when, and then there's the how.

Once someone surrenders the what's to God, Okay God, I'll marry this person.

Then what we do is we automatically assume that we are in charge of the how and the when.

Once God has revealed His will to us we surrender to it and then we say but the way it happens and when it happens is up to me.

And we get in, we could get in very big trouble here.

And what we need to understand is that when we surrender to God, we actually need to surrender 3 things, 3 separate times.

We need to surrender to God the what, we need to surrender to God the how, and then the when.

All 3 of those things need to be completely surrendered to God.

And the Bible has several characters that had major struggles with this.

We're gonna look at 2 Bible characters and we're gonna look at the struggle they had with this and we're going to try to learn from their mistakes so we don't have to make them.

Let's look at our first character, Naaman.

Open your Bibles to the book of 2nd Kings.

Now Naaman, Captain of the hosts of the king of Syria was a great man with his master inhonorable because by him the Lord had given deliverance to Syria he was also a mighty man in valor but he was a what he was a leper And the Syrians had gone out by companies and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little girl.
