Why Should William Miller Still Be Relevant to Us

I want everyone to see the data that we will talk about and the topic for this week.

All right, Yeah, so come closer because there's going to be a lot of data here that you won't be able to see if you're too far away.

And also, we are closer as a family, and we feel just connected more.

OK, if you are physically unable to, then okay.

But I'm looking at those youngsters there in the corner.

We have added a few master programs, masters in counseling and psychology and also masters in biblical mission and wellness.

And so a theology masters, and there are others that we are planning to add.

And so our university is growing there up north of Sacramento and we are excited and we have been accredited 4 years ago, 5 years ago, and now university as well.

And The topic for tonight that I want to share with you is something that I really became excited as I was studying the Adventist history.

And this topic of the Great Second Advent movement.

And I was sharing this on October 22 Sabbath, this last semester at Weimar.

And my sermon, instead of being 1 hour long, ended up being 3 hours long on Sabbath morning.

No, there was young people, there were academy students, there were college students, and everybody's like, we never heard this about our history.

So I was just sharing some parts of my lectures, but God bless so much.

And when Advent Hope leaders asked me what to present, that was during that time, I was like, there's a lot of things that we disconnect ourselves from history and There's a quote from Ellen White has to do with our our history she said I have had presentations regarding the what?

Deceptions that Satan is bringing in at this time.

I have been instructed that the history of the early Experiences in the message will be a what a power to withstand the masterly ingenuity of Satan's deceptions Wow So We are warned by the spirit of prophecy that there will be masterful deceptions that Satan will introduce into the church.

And what will be the power to overcome those deceptions?

Now, if we're deficient and not just general like, oh yeah, 1844, embarrassment, kind of like, not just general, yeah, pioneers, something, Ellen White, something, something, and then, you know, Miller, William, I guess, not just general knowledge, but the history of the early experiences in the message.

And as what I want to do tonight, I want to take you with me to see that the world, as William Miller saw the world in 1830s and 1840s, to experience things that he was discovering as he first discovered them.

And what I want to show you tonight, that there is a definite objective prophetic markers in our history that once you we understand and we see them and we are we are acquainted with those we have such a strong faith that God is I am part of the end time remnant movement that was prophetically predicted.

And there's 25 different prophecies just between 1830s and 1844 that were all fulfilled exactly on time.

And when we see this, you'll be like, okay, I need to be a soldier in this movement, in this boat.

And so this is kind of the approach I want to take.

Similar statement Ellen White said, we have nothing to fear for the future except we forget the way the Lord has led us and his teaching in a past history.

So if we forget that, we have plenty to fear about our future.

Masterly deceptions of Satan, we have no power to overcome them.

So this week I entitled it, The Great Second Advent Movement.

Okay, so get your Bibles out because we will be studying some prophecies.

I heard, people told me, okay, this is what people told me Young adults young people.

They are not able to hold attention span That's what that's what that's what I was told you're gonna prove them wrong tonight Okay, I was told no prophecy.

That's too difficult for young people Do you agree with that?

Why should William Miller be relevant to us today?

Let's have a quick word of prayer 1 more Lord father I pray for your Presence and your power to be with us here tonight Father I pray for your Holy Spirit that we can open our mind and our heart so we can see how you led us in the past and father we really want to be revived through this message tonight we want to be awakened from our spiritual maybe slumbering or our spiritual sleep we're like the 10 virgins have all fallen asleep but we need to be awakened again, just like the Millerite movement awoke the world.

Help us to grasp this message and hold it up like a torch in our church today.

Okay, William Miller, just a little context.

Born on February 15th, 1782 in Massachusetts.

In the house of William Miller Sr., he was a veteran in the American Revolution.

So his father was fighting in the American Revolution War against the British.

The family moved to New York State when Miller was 4 years old.

He was homeschooled in his Baptist family up to age 9.

William Miller and then went to the new school in Lowhampton, New York until age 17.

And then when he was 19 year old, he got married to Lucy Smith.

And so which is really close by, you can see here, there's Massachusetts, and then he moved to New York State, and then moved to Vermont.

He moved to Pulteney, Vermont, in 1803 to do farming.

Now, the United States back then, it was still forming.

So Vermont in 1790 was not even part of the United States.

You see this here, when Miller was born, the state of Vermont is not even inside of the United States yet.

So it was all, this was called Northeast Territory.

I think this is this Kentucky or Tennessee.

Tennessee, it was called Unorganized territory.

Why We Absolutely Must Celebrate the 1844 Disappointment!

But there's so many different versions I heard.

Zina Dinovich, Zivodinovich, it's like, oh, it's okay.

That's why my students, I just tell them, call me Dr.

Okay, so I'm from Weimar University and I think there's a lot of former Weimar students here.

Last night, we have covered the little bit of beginning of this presentation for today and it was the whole series I'm calling it the Great Second Advent Movement, a relic of the past or a key to the end time revival.

And the reason why I entitled it this way is because Sometimes we're looking into 1840s and why is that relevant today?

Let's talk about Jesus and Sabbath and other things so but actually Ellen White tells us that I have had presentations regarding the deceptions that Satan is bringing in at this time in the church, I have been instructed that the history of the early experiences in the message will be what?

A power to withstand the masterly ingenuity of Satan's deceptions.

So we need to know details of our early history of Advent history and actually there are so many details that we kind of gloss over like 1290, 1335, who is talking about these dates today?

And then what I wanna see, I want to introduce the Advent movement through the eyes of William Miller, and how he was experiencing the fulfillments of prophecy along the way.

Father, this morning I pray that you will be the speaker.

I pray, Father, that you completely hide me away from here that people don't look at me But that I can see The message and your feel your spirit and hear your words Father I pray that we can revive our zeal that the Millerites had right before 1844.

We need to study the revival that happened and to see all the prophecies that were fulfilled.

And we can be excited even today about our identity and our history so that we are not moved when the shaking comes because we know our roots we know how you led us Lord help us to be strengthened This morning concrete in the faith so that we can have better mission.

We pray this in Jesus name Amen, okay, so Today we talked about presentation number 1 was why should William Miller still be relevant to us?

That was the presentation yesterday and Today it's part 2 why we absolutely must celebrate the 1844 disappointment.

After this presentation you will be like, when somebody comes, oh you guys Adventists, yeah, I missed the 18th, no, that wasn't Bible prophecy.

That was actually part of the experience of Bible prophecy.

And then you're gonna show them how this was divinely instituted by God.

You can tell people, wait a second, when Jesus was entering Jerusalem in a donkey and everybody was celebrating and everybody got disappointed, Are we just gonna erase that part from the Bible?

They got, the disciples get disappointed when Jesus was crucified, but then what happened later?

The entrance to Jerusalem, did Jesus tell him, hey, hey, hey, hey, stop, stop, stop, I'm not coming here.

Okay, palm branches is a symbol of victory, you know It's a symbol of that This is what they do that feast of the tabernacle which is represents the end of the world the last feast of the seventh feast Right and so the palm branches is the second coming like we'll go to Revelation chapter 7 You see the hundred 44000 the great multitude where they're doing in relation chapter 7 the great multitude Palm branches.

This is the second coming and so They were doing palm branches.

They were thinking Jesus is entering Jerusalem.

Jesus didn't correct them that the buzz had to be created the entire Jerusalem had to be bubbling over So the same thing with the 1844 now, this is what happened both prop Daniel 9 prophecy was fulfilled with Jesus first coming Daniel 8 With 1844 so this was all God's plan William Miller was not the only 1 there was bunch of other there's a lot of other Preachers around the time from Germany from France from Switzerland from England from America that were saying the end is near something is happening everybody was studying Daniel 7 Daniel 8 German pastor Johann Petri placed the end of Daniel 2300 days in 1847 really close.

Another German pastor, Johann Bengel, he believed 1260 days were ending in 1836.

In Spain, there was even a Catholic Jesuit priest were running away from the Jesuit order by the name of Manuel Lacunsa.

He wrote the book the second coming of Messiah and he was talking that the Messiah's the kingdom is not Catholic Church is not the kingdom the kingdom of Jesus the second coming and so if the buzz was everywhere Spain Chile he went escaped to Chile.

There was a Jewish rabbi, son of a Jewish rabbi, Joseph Wolff.

He was saying 2300 days and in 1847 he preached all over Europe, went all the way to Asia Minor and even to Palestine.

In Scotland, there was a guy by the name Edward Irving.

He was waiting for Christ's millennium in the year 1840 in Scandinavia people were preaching but second coming of Jesus and they actually had to the local churches the Lutheran church like stop stop stop you can't do that so the so the children the children went out to the streets and said the prophecies are showing that the second coming, and not just the prophecy, they just saw the largest meteorite shower in world history in 1833 and everybody's like falling off the stars and they're like wait a second that Jesus tells us the dark day earthquake falling of the falling of the stars happened it was their dark day they research 1780 it was a dark day in America.

The morning came and then boom, darkness.

It was 1 of the greatest mysteries of American history.

And so people were looking at those events people were living in those events There was a huge big earthquake 7055 the Lisbon earthquake destroyed the entire city of Porto country of Portugal And so these all these children were coming up and it wasn't just William Miller all over the world it was a buzz there was a buzz that something is happening the prophecies are here they're the signs of the times the Lisbon earthquake the dark day May 1917 80 and then there was a French Revolution Now French Revolution is predicted in Revelation chapter 11.

In Revelation chapter 11 all the Protestants at that time they were studying Revelation chapter 11 and they saw Egypt, Sodom, the beast, as Egypt, Sodom and they saw the Bible being destroyed for 3 and a half years in Revelation 11.

And so when that was actually fulfilling in France from 1794 to 1797, there was a ban on Bible and religious books, and Bibles were burned on the streets of Paris.

Everybody's looking at the prophecy of that of Revelation 11.

The 2 witnesses are going to be killed for 3 and a half years.

The 2 witnesses, all the New Testament, the Bible.

So the French Revolution, This was all in the consciousness of William Miller and a lot of other religious people around that time.

And then something amazing happened at that at the same time in 1798.

For the first time in 1260 years, the secular power of the papacy was abolished.

The Pope did not have any control over any kingdom in Europe and didn't even have his own papal states.

So for the first time the Pope was just a pastor.

And this was actually fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

A lot of people notice that 1260 for 538, 538 first time the Roman bishop, first time the Byzantine king gave to the Pope the secular authority in 538.

And so now when they saw 1790, it was like what happened?

Oh let's put 1260, 530, That's the first time the Pope got secular power.

The stars, the meteorite shower, the largest meteorite shower in world history, 1833.

So all these things were just happening around the people and it was a great buzz and especially When the stars fall in November 18 1833 So these these are there's just a series of events that were happening around that time that aroused a large number of people.

And if you look at Revelation chapter 6, what chapter did I say?

Revelation chapter 6, open with me to Revelation chapter 6 verse 12.

Revelation chapter 6 verse 12, Open with me to Revelation 6, verse 12.

Revelation 6, verse 12, there are signs that have to happen before Jesus' second coming.

There are celestial signs that have to happen according to the Bible, not according to what I say.
