True and False Revivals

I thought that what I'd talk about just kind of maybe a hodgepodge of things a little bit.

And lest I miss the main thing, I'll talk about this idea of true and false revival tonight.

So let's just pray together and ask the Lord to be with us.

Father in heaven, thank you tonight for your promise that where 2 or 3 are gathered, you'll be there in the midst.

And we ask that your spirit would be with us tonight in a special way in Christ's name amen are we online or not we are okay welcome those online as well tonight you know true and false revival is what a lot of people are thinking about recently, especially in light of a occurrence in Kentucky at Osbury, I think I'm saying that right, seminary near Lexington.

And they had a midweek service, some students that came together, they were listening to a message on the Book of Romans, and after they stayed afterwards, they started to pray and sing, And they never left.

And pretty soon, hundreds came, then thousands came, and it overwhelmed the city.

In fact, they had to turn people away from the city because they had 50, 000 people come to their city, which is only a city of a few thousand people.

It overwhelmed the infrastructure and it overwhelmed all the facilities.

It was picked up on the media, went on social media all over the world, and it's estimated that 62 million people were involved in that particular revival.

Some people flying from around the world to be just in that space.

How many of you watched any of the news accounts?

I'm always interested in revival and reformation.

And so I thought about that, and I thought maybe I'd talk about that a little bit tonight True and false revival how to tell the difference.

So here's a picture of their their chapel a Little bit different than our chapels tonight People here are not really seeking maybe the midweek service as much.

And first of all, they didn't allow anything on the internet at first.

They said, look, if you want experience, you've got to come here.

But then it was so overwhelming, they said, look, please don't come to the city.

The only thing that really shut it down was the case of measles, I think.

Case of measles that started to spread, and they said we don't want to have a social, we don't want to have some kind of epidemic or epidemic of measles starting from here.

And I can't remember how many days it was, but 15 days or something.

And then other schools started to have a spirit of revival as well that came out of this.

Question is, you know, is it true or is it false revival?

Now some people will say, well, it's not in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, so it's got to be false.

It's false because it's not at Haskell Hall.

Well, you know, we got room for revival here tonight.

Some people I think that are criticizing the revival down there are kind of envious.

Okay, and let me just say that in the Bible there was revival in some places that was not Israel.

You know Jonah went there and he preached and they all believed.

And he was kind of upset that they believed.

He goes, wait a minute you guys can't be revived by my preaching.

But they were and they were all converted.

So you think God could actually could actually move in another place than just Haskell Hall?

How many think that might be able to happen?

How many think that there's a possibility?

All right, there's so few people here tonight that can't really say amen that loud, folks, but some of them are saying amen here tonight.

Now listen to this, notwithstanding, this is a statement from a book called The Great Controversy, I don't know if you've ever heard of this book, Notwithstanding the widespread declension of faith and piety, there are true followers of Christ in these churches.

And before the final visitation of God's judgments on the earth, there will be among the people of the Lord such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times wait a minute wait wait just a minute Notwithstanding the widespread discontent of faith and purity, there are true followers of Christ only in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

And before the final visitation of God's judgments on the earth, there will be among the people of the Lord such a revival of permanent godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times." Wait a minute!

Might be our church as well, but there's gonna be a revival that sweeps a whole bunch of places.

Father in heaven, we don't want to be unsure about whether or not we prayed.

And so we just ask your spirit, we're talking about something important here tonight.

And it doesn't matter there's only a few of us.

So bless us tonight as we talk about it in Christ's name, Amen.

So there's going to be this revival, spirit of revival, and the spirit and power of God will be poured out on His children.

At that time many will separate themselves from those churches in which the love of this world has supplanted love for God in His Word.

Love for God and His Word and His Word's defining what that love is.

The church is the theater of grace for the transformation of souls.

In other words, love of God transforms people.

It doesn't make everybody just feel good.

So there's this transformation that comes where they go, wait a minute, that's not in God's Word.

So they're going, I want to do what God says in His Word.

Okay, so this some of this was happening down there at this this place.

I was listening to some of the testimonies and some people are saying you need to repent and this and that.

Now they did try and shut that down a bit because because they wanted to have a kind of a big tent thing you know let's just keep it to the singing singing ministries and just prayer I'm nothing against prayer singing that were these lovely singers tonight Okay I didn't hear a lot of amen's.

I guess you can't amen yourselves, but can we have an amen?

There's actually you know preaching of the Word of God that brings a change.

And so they tried to diminish this you know you had all kinds of people saying this is of God you even had the Roman Catholic Bishop, you had different people from different things, and it kind of was a big tent thing.
