The Three Angels’ Message and Inspired Methods

What I'm going to be addressing today, what I was assigned, was the 3 angels messages and inspired methods.

And it's unfortunate that our own people don't understand this message.

I just have a new batch of students coming in and a high percentage of my students, 18 to 24 year olds, a high percentage of them, when I asked them how many people have heard of the 3 and those messages before, very few people in that room raised their hand.

We are making a rash assumption that Seventh-day Adventists actually know what the 3 angels messages are, they actually know where to find them in the Bible, and that they actually know how to see Jesus at the heart of them.

I wish that wasn't true, but we're gravely mistaken." Mark Finley and many others behind the scenes, Dan Houghton, Rusty McKee and others have really seen this need and have been doing a work of increasing this in our curriculums and schools and so forth to try to make a difference here.

So my students after this last week of going through 14 hours worth of classes, that's a bit longer than what our core online has, are now understanding the root issues behind the 3 angels messages through our program, thank God, right?

Because this is Adventism 101, like, Adventism does not have a...

Revelation 12 identifies the remnant, Revelation 14 shares the message of the remnant, right?

This is your marching order, So I'm very, very thankful to Oleg and his team for realizing that this is important and for choosing to do the symposium on this particular topic.

So we're gonna deal with the topic of the inspired methods.

I believe there is an emphasis that God always wanted in the sharing of the 3 angels messages that we could do better at.

It's not that we haven't done it per se, that no one's doing it, but I feel like Adventism's days are just ahead of us once we understand this emphasis that the spirit of inspiration is encouraging us to do.

So that's what we're gonna be doing over the course of this morning and I'll do my best to do this in a timely fashion.

So I have to kind of ask an off-the-record question.

Since we started 10 minutes later, did my clock start 10 minutes later or do I still need to land this plane at 1030?

I'm just making sure I don't go over and tread on someone else's territory.

Sweet Jesus, I thank you for this privilege to come into your presence, that you long to bless us more than we've had the courage to ask.

And I just ask now, as Moses prayed audaciously, that you would show us your glory.

That we would see the character of God in the 3 angels' messages and would understand the spirit-led and spirit-charged way in which we're to do this.

All right, first selected messages, 372 says this.

She says, Some of our brethren have expressed fears that we shall dwell too much upon the subject of justification by faith.

But I hope and pray, she says, that none will be needlessly alarmed.

For there is no danger in presenting this doctrine as it is set forth in the scriptures.

And if there had not been a remissness..." What does that word mean?

Had there not been a lack of us giving this emphasis, right, in presenting this doctrine, there would not now be a necessity of calling a special attention to it, she says.

So had we done this up until now, we wouldn't be making a bigger emphasis right now.

The backstory for this quote is Jones and Wagner, leading into Minneapolis and afterwards, 1889, 1890, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1994, around this timeline, were preaching this message of righteousness by faith and the 3 angels' messages hand in hand.

Some of our brethren were not so excited about this, and what their response to that was, is this really the 3 angels' messages?

Why are we making such an emphasis on justification by faith?

And what they're really saying is, is this present truth?

And we saw some instances of this even recently, right, when people were talking about social justice issues or so forth.

People were saying, is that the 3 angels' messages?

And I'm not saying for or against, I'm not here to get into politics.

My point is, we do this as a movement at times.

Because we do have some sense of the 3 Angels' Messages should be our main emphasis.

But what is to be the emphasis through the 3 Angels' Messages?

And she's saying this needs to be a big, big part of that.

She says, "...the exceeding great and precious promises given us in the Holy Scriptures have been lost sight of to a great extent, just as the enemy of all righteousness designed that they should be." So she's implying this is a great controversy issue, us not embracing the message of justification by faith, and the devil doesn't want us to do that in our preaching of the 3 angels' messages.

He's cast his own dark shadow between us and our God, that we may not see the true character of God.

So he's also led us to have unhealthy views of God and unhealthy views of ourselves.

And even subconsciously those negative views can make their way into our preaching, and we'll address that here in just a moment.

3ABN's pastoral department is getting an alarming amount of phone calls from Seventh-day Adventist adults, and pastors by the way, who have 0 assurance of salvation.

And we're telling people Jesus is coming soon.

If the point of the 3 Angels' Messages is to awaken the world to God's love for them, but many Aventists don't even believe that God loves them, how pray tell can Jesus come soon?

So there's a revival that needs to happen within Adventism through the preaching of the 3 angels' messages with Christ at the center to then empower them to share a Christ-centered 3 angels' messages with the world.

This is the inspired method, and we're going to talk about that as we keep going.

Okay, so the Lord has proclaimed myself to be merciful, gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.

Then she says, several have written to me inquiring if the message of justification by faith is the third angel's message.

And I have answered it is the third angel's message in verity.

And I believe if someone asked her if it was the first angel's message or if it was the second angel's message, she also would say in verity.

She just asked the or answer the question as it was asked.

I believe you can see justification by faith in the gospel in every single 1 of the 3 angels messages and all of what's laid out there and that's the way that we need to absorb it as members And that's the way we need to preach it to the world around us.

So let's give a summary of the 3 Angels' Messages, looking for some glimpses of this, and the root issues regarding the 3 Angels' Messages.

If you were to do a poll today of Seventh-day Adventist Christians and ask them, what is the first angel's message?

The most common response you would get is, fear God and give glory to him for the hour of his judgment has come.

The first angel's message, because remember, The first angel's message begins with the everlasting gospel, and there's also a charge to worship him who made heaven, the earth, the sea, and springs of water.

So we forgot the gospel, and we ignored the Sabbath when we give our answer on what the first angel's message is.

We've condensed it and left out 2 really, really important components, which I think is going to get us in trouble for obvious reasons, right?

Now, Ellen White makes this statement, and I'm going to read the text, and then I'll look at her comment on this particular verbiage, because it's fascinating to me.

But this is the verbiage, Revelation 14, 6-7, Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth, to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.

Jesus says in Matthew 24, verse 14, and this gospel will be preached in all the world as a witness and then the end shall come." Similar language, right?

And then they say, "...to fear God, give glory to him, for the hour of judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven, the earth, the sea, and springs of water." Okay?
