05 How to Make Your Bible Explode...With Jesus

Let's pray and then we'll go ahead with our presentation.

Father in heaven, thank you so much for all your blessings, Lord, your goodness.

And we just pray the spirit will descend now as we look into the word and we look for the face of your son in the scriptures.

And I pray you'll be with me as I share and open our hearts and our ears.

And Lord, we come to meetings like this because we want to be different.

We want to have our hearts burn within us as those disciples.

And just to have a burning desire to share the good news of Jesus with others.

So bless us now, in Christ's name we pray.

All right, sounds like most of you want to see where they are.

That's a tiger face, tiger face, tiger face.

So, kind of cool, the way the artist did that.

Most people just see the first 4 right in the middle.

But When you read the Bible, most people miss the shadows of Jesus hiding in the story.

Now, if I showed you that picture And I didn't tell you we were looking for hidden tigers.

But once you know you're looking for tigers, it's easy to spot their faces.

Okay, you come by the Amazing Facts booth, we'll give you a pin.

You'll be studying, looking for more, and making me look bad.

So when you look at the Bible, it's sort of a puzzle, where hidden in every word, Jesus says, these are they that testify of me.

He said, you search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life.

The Bible says in the volume of the book it is written of thee.

It's all about Jesus and I know people say that but it really is true.

So we're going to be looking at first the Exodus and then Moses.

We're going to go quickly because I want to get through as much as I can and then also give you a chance to ask questions if you'd like.

The Exodus is, the whole Bible has been really written by Moses, and Moses was the hero of the Exodus, I mean the whole first early history.

Moses wrote Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and the Book of Job.

And It really is foundational for most of the cultures of the world, but the story of God saving this nation from slavery, you know, the children of Israel, if for no other reason, are proof the Bible is true.

I don't know if the person who fixed it is here, what he did, but I want to maybe turn that down a little.

So 3 times the children of Israel have been dispossessed from their land.

During the famine in Egypt, they went to Egypt, but they came back.

They were carried off by the Babylonians to Babylon for 70 years, but they came back.

They were then conquered and spread for 2, 000 years by the Romans, Great Dyspersia, and they came back in 1948.

Jerusalem is supposed to be the city of peace, but not this Jerusalem.

There's been more war there than, I think, 27 wars in old Jerusalem.

But the story of the Exodus is the story of salvation.

There's this people, the nation of slaves, that represents everyone in the world.

Moses is sent by God and he says, let my people go.

But then through God's power and a series of plagues, he's finally forced to let go.

And the turning point is the sacrifice of a lamb, the Passover, right?

And when that lamb is sacrificed, they begin a journey.

They don't go immediately from Egypt to the Promised Land.

After you accept Jesus, you don't bounce into heaven right away.

Unless you're doing it, you know, on your deathbed and then your next conscious thought is a resurrection.

But Most of us, after you accept Jesus, you get a wilderness experience.

You've got Egypt, wilderness, promised land.

Justification, you come to the Lord just like you are.

Glorification when we're in the promised land.

They come out of Egypt And they get protected from the Egyptians by this pillar of fire.

And Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10, he says, they were baptized in the fire and they were baptized in the sea.

And then Jesus says to Nicodemus, unless you are born of the water and the spirit, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.

Now, Adventist evangelists, I was a conference evangelist for years, When you get done with a meeting, the first thing the president asks you is, how many were baptized?

We started talking about Hezekiah, that you find in Isaiah 39.

And what we're doing is we're talking about, all the types and shadows in the Bible of Christ.

How do you read the Bible so that you see the stories just explode?

All through the Bible when it talks about they studied the scriptures, they were studying the stories in the Old Testament and seeing Jesus in all these stories.

And I just don't hear a lot of pastors and people studying the Bible that way today.

And that's where you really understand the gospel through the stories in the Bible.

We just looked at the story of Abraham going up the mountain with Isaac and say that's an analogy of the sacrifice of Christ.

So we're with that, I'm gonna have another prayer.

We'll launch off into the next 45 minutes.

Loving Lord, again, we just come before you, pray for the presence of the spirit and that you'll give life to the words, help the stories to come to life, Lord, and help us better know how to know you, seek you, find you in your word.

Bless Lord in these presentations that your son might be glorified.

So what we did just before we closed our last session, I kind of opened the floor and said, name some old Testament characters and how do we find Christ in the story?

And we were talking about Hezekiah And we were dealing with a story where Hezekiah is sick.

The sun goes backwards for 15 degrees on the sundial, 15 minutes.

People in Mesopotamia could not miss that.

So these emissaries come from Mesopotamia to Hezekiah about the wonder that was done.

When the Queen of Sheba came, Solomon told her about God.

The reason that God did all these miracles for Israel is he wanted the nations to come and learn about him.

He wanted them to be a nation of kings and priests, and the church is a nation of kings and priests.

So When people come to us, we're telling them not about us and our programs, we're telling them about God.

But Hezekiah, like a lot of us, was more concerned about what people thought of him than what God thought of him.

I like to be liked, as opposed to liking not being liked.

But Jesus warned against praying to be seen of men, praying to impress people, giving to be seen of men, giving to impress people, fasting to impress people, doing it for people.

You should be more worried about what God thinks of everything you do than what people think.

I mean, God just did a great miracle for him, but he kind of blew the test.

More concerned with impressing his friends and the ambassadors and impressing God.

So, these ambassadors come, They said, tell us about this God that did this wonder.

Wow, big emissaries and they've come and they bring gifts to the king and say, tell us.

He said, well here, yeah, let me show you.

I'm a great king and here's my armory and here's my treasures.

And look at Solomon's temple was a wonder of the world.

I've shown them everything in my house, my perfumes and spices, my armaments, my treasures.

By the way, when you read that in Isaiah 39, the word my and me comes up 5 times.

It's like when the devil in Isaiah, He says, III, the devil had optometry problems.

He says, all about IIIIII, sin and selfishness.

So I sent these people to you so that they would learn about your God.

Instead of learning about your God and bringing the truth of your God back to their nation and the whole nation could have been converted, you talked about yourself.

He said, people are going to want your treasure says Babylonians are going to come Now that they've seen all the treasure you've got, they're going to destroy this city.

They're going to take all your treasure and they're going to take your sons and make them eunuchs in their palace.

Do you realize Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were descendants from Judah, from the kings?

They were of nobility and they were made eunuchs in the palace of Babylon, not to mention Nebuchadnezzar carried everything away.

What a terrible lost opportunity to witness.

Marco Polo, he was, you know, went to China with Niccolo and Matteo Polo, his father and his uncle.

The Kublai Khan was so impressed with him.

He's a leader of millions and millions of people, that he had this amazing grasp of languages and he learned Cantonese and Mandarin and began to be a trader.

And the Kublai Khan was so impressed with the Polos and their talk about their God, they were very devout men.

It's amazing God protected them all those years in China coming and going back to Venice.

That Kublai Khan said, your God makes sense.

I'd like to know about this God that sent his son to die for our sins.

He says, you tell him, send me, I'll pay their way.

You send me a hundred priests to talk to me about your God and your Jesus.

So when the Polos get back to Europe, they keep asking for an audience with the Pope.

Well the problem was this is a time in history when the 2 Popes, there were 2 Popes at 1 time fighting over who was the real Pope.

I don't know if you read about that, it was like 1200 something.

Finally they got an audience with the Pope in Italy there.

The other 1 was in France and they said, you've got to go to send these people to China.

You know, we're sending these Jesuit priests to places unknown, and they're struggling to make 1 convert.

Here's a whole nation ready to convert, and the king will subsidize it.

03 How to Make Your Bible Explode...With Jesus

All right, on the fall of 2024, Amazing Facts is going back to New York City.

It'll be 25 years since our Net New York program.

We're inviting young missionaries to go to the jungle of New York City.

And we're gonna have free evangelism training.

You can do literature ministry, street preaching, medical ministry, singing on the streets.

We're hoping that we have 500 teams of young people.

In New York City, doing ministry, then bringing people to the meetings that evening.

We have a 2, 000 seat auditorium and be part of the Prophecy Odyssey evangelistic program in New York City.

I was speaking with Elder Wilson just about 8 months ago and I said if we could do an evangelistic meeting, what's the most prominent city in the world that people would recognize?

United Nations, 9-11, financial advertising capital, people know New York City.

So if you uplink from New York City, and we'll translate into all these different languages, so you can be part of that.

We think about doing missionary work and you go to New Guinea, not New York City.

But there are a lot of lost people in New York City.

So if you want to be part of that, you can come.

Part of the reason I'm doing this series here at GYC is, How many of you have heard of AFCO?

AFCO is the Amazing Facts College of Evangelism.

Sometimes they call it the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism.

We have AFCO programs around North America, or rather around the world.

We've got 1 in North America, India, Philippines.

Matter of fact, Yoichim is here doing 1 of our presenters.

We have quarterlies that you can study for soul winning, they're Africa quarterlies.

Our latest quarterly is on what we're studying here.

It's called Amazing Shadows, Types of Christ in the Bible.

And I know I titled the series How to Make Your Bible Explode with Jesus.

That's cuz they wanted something exciting.

And as you read through the Bible, I would love to know what Jesus said.

How much would you pay If you could have an audio recording in your language of what Jesus said to the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus, when Jesus opened to them the scriptures beginning at Moses and all the prophets, the things concerning himself, what would that recording be worth?

Do You hear that's 2, maybe 2 and a half hour Bible study, depending on how quickly they walked that 7 miles.

It's the kind of things that Paul and Peter did when they expounded the scriptures.

So we're showing from the scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah.

Where we left off, we were talking about the types of Christ in the Bible, and we went through Adam and Seth and Noah and Melchizedek and a lot of the early patriarchs, Abraham.

Joseph, the Bible says, is the beloved son, and of course Jesus is the beloved son.

And so we're going to look at some of the ways that Jesus and Joseph overlap in the Bible.

Where we left off, Joseph had been sold by his brothers, sold for the price of a slave.

They wanted to kill him so they could take the inheritance, like the parable that Jesus shared, that the vine keepers wanted to steal the inheritance and to take the vineyard.

Why did the Jews turn Jesus over to Pilate?

You can read, it says that Pilate knew they did it because of envy.

He could tell that it was just because of jealousy they were threatened.

Joseph came seeking his brothers and they sold him.

Finally, he's falsely accused by Potiphar's wife for something.

They took away the robe of Christ when he was crucified.

And that's Judas sold him for silver, and Judas sold him for silver.

But he's a faithful servant When he's in the house of Potiphar, was Jesus a faithful servant?

By the way, be thinking of other Bible characters.

I'm going to give you a chance to ask questions either about this, 1 of the subjects or people we're covering, or others in the Bible.

Jesus said, if I, your Lord and master, have come as 1 that serves, you ought to serve 1 another.

By the way, the best way to be a faithful leader is to first be a good servant.

Some of the people that make the best COOs of successful companies worked in very simple jobs.

1 of the richest men in the world is Warren Buffett.

He sold newspapers from his bicycle when he was a kid.

My dad was a multi-millionaire, very successful businessman.

Pick beans in California, they learn how to work.

And then as they work their way up, they understand what the employees are going through.

You know, the beginning of Jesus' life begins with a Joseph.

There's a Joseph of Arimathea that puts him in the tomb.

And most of the book of Genesis is dedicated to Joseph.

So I'm just doing a little review for the benefit of those who are coming in.

See when Joseph was born, Rachel's first son, Jacob made a prophecy.

He had 1 more through Rachel, Benjamin, his last son.

By the way, did Joseph become a tribe in Israel?

When you see the list of the 12 tribes, Joseph is almost never mentioned Because his sons were adopted in his place.

04 How to Make Your Bible Explode...With Jesus

For those that are joining us, we've been talking about how to make your Bible explode with Jesus.

Basically, how all the stories in the Bible and the experiences are telling us something about the gospel.

We talked about how Jesus is a type of Adam or Adam a type of Christ, and Abel, and Noah, and I could jump ahead and talk about Gideon.

You got Gideon, and Samson, and Elijah, and Elisha, and there's just so many types of Christ in the Bible.

You see it also in the story of Esther, the gospel, and the story of Ruth.

As you can see, I was going to talk about Moses, and that's a whole presentation in itself.

But I want to give, how many of you have been to earlier programs?

You've already been to some of these, okay.

If you could pick a Bible character and say, How do you see the gospel in this story or character?

I heard someone say, anyone else want to hear about Samson?

Well, he's mentioned in Hebrews 11 as 1 of the faithful, which is strange because it seems like he was kind of a womanizing musclehead.

Some of the stuff that he did was not really good.

Let's look at some ways that Samson is a type of Christ.

I'm not including Adam, but he has a miracle birth.

But I'm talking about women that were barren and couldn't have children.

Elisha said, we're going to give you a child.

We're almost at 7 because I think we're forgetting 1.

Actually, Jacob, rather, Joseph is a miracle birth because Rachel could not conceive.

And Jacob prayed for her and she finally had a son.

I'm taking 2 rabbit trails, so don't lose me.

The Hebrew women were having problems having babies.
