Ingredients to Answered Prayer

Isn't it a blessing to come together to begin the day in prayer?

You know, someone has said, notice, we never pray for those we gossip about, and we never gossip about those for whom we pray.

I want you to turn to the person next to you and I want you to say, I promise not to talk about you anymore.

We're going to be 1 big happy family, amen?

A family that prays together, stays together.

Let's begin with just 1 more word of prayer.

Most gracious, kind, loving Father in heaven, thank you so much for being a faithful prayer hearing, prayer answering God.

Once again we just pray that you would mightily outpour your Spirit upon us.

You have said in your word, I have not seen nor ear heard nor have entered into the heart of man the things you have prepared for those who love you.

We know that you just have so many things in store for us and we just pray that you continue to bless us.

Please keep me hidden behind the cross during this hour.

The title of my message this morning is The Incredible Power of Prayer.

After 1260 years of papal dominance, Martin Luther emerges from his prayer closet.

And this is what it says in Great Controversy.

It says, from the secret place of prayer came the power that shook the world in the great reformation.

During the struggle at Augsburg, Luther did not pass a day without devoting 3 hours at least to prayer.

And they were hours selected from those the most favorable to study.

You know, not only Martin Luther, but all the other great reformers.

You think of John Wesley, you think of John Knox, you think of the great missionaries, Hudson Taylor, George Mueller, you think of the great preachers in history, Charles Spurgeon, Charles Finney, D.L.

Moody, all of these individuals, they all had different backgrounds, they all had different levels of training, their theologies all differed, but they all had 1 thing in common.

They were all without exception, great men of prayer.

In Patriarchs and Prophets, Ellen White says, the men of prayer are the men of power.

Anyways, this morning, I just want to share a number of different things that I'm praying will be helpful to you as you spend time today in the prayer room and as you may join us tonight for the all-night prayer.

Please pray about whether God would have you to come out and join us.

Because we believe that where there is much prayer, there is much blessing.

Martin Luther said, none can believe how powerful prayer is and what it is able to affect but those who have learned it by experience.

You know, you could read a lot of great books, and you could hear a lot of messages about how prayer is so powerful, but it's not until you experience it that you will truly come to believe and understand what it is able to affect.

And that's what we want you to experience here this weekend.

I wanna talk a little bit about praise and thanksgiving.

In Psalms 34 verse 1, the psalmist says, "'I will bless the Lord at all times.

"'His praise shall continually be in my mouth." There's a reason we begin our United Prayer session with a lot of praise and thanksgiving.

But it is not only during our times of United Prayer that we should give God praise and thanksgiving.

We need to learn to give God praise as we journey throughout the day, as we encounter the trials.

They say there are 2 times to praise the Lord.

Yes, when you feel like it and when you don't.

Because regardless of how we feel, God is still worthy to be praised.

In Revelation chapter 4 verse 8 we're told the 4 living creatures, each having 6 wings, were full of eyes around and within and they do not rest day or night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come.

Night and day, that's your job, just giving God praise, honor, and glory.

When I was a child and I read this, I thought, man, that must be so boring.

I would never want to be stuck doing that.

I would change positions with 1 of those 4 angels in a moment to be in God's presence.

And the reason some of our prayer facilitators can spend 6, 8 hours sometimes when we're short on facilitators in the prayer room is because it's sweet to be in His presence.

They understand what that sweet hour of prayer hymn is all about.

And a friend has shared with me that 1 of the best ways to prepare for heaven is by spending a lot of time in the prayer room in God's presence.

Psalms 100 verse 4 it says, Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise.

So when you go to church, we need to go to church praising the Lord.

And if the sermon is wonderful, you praise God.

And if it's the worst sermon you ever heard, what do you do?

So after this message, you're still going to be praising the Lord.

We've got to be praising the Lord more as We are on the borders of entering into the promised land.

Psalms 22 verse 3 it says, You are holy and enthroned in the praises of Israel.

What this means is that God dwells in the atmosphere of His praise.

Praise is not merely a reaction from coming into his presence, but praise is the vehicle of faith that takes us into the presence and power of God.

Ellen White says, if we keep the Lord ever before us, allowing our hearts to go out in thanksgiving and praise to him, we shall have a continual freshness in our religious life.

We want you to take this army experience with you.

We want you to leave this place and continue to practice giving God praise and thanksgiving at all times.

Our prayers will take the form of a conversation with God as we would talk with a friend.

He will personally speak his mysteries to us personally.

Often there will come to us a sweet, joyful sense of the presence of Jesus.

Often our hearts will burn within us as He draws night to commune with us as He did with Enoch.

And is that not the experience that we all want?

We all want to walk with God as Enoch walked with God.

If you want to sense more of his presence in your life, learn to praise God at all times.

And the Bible says a lot about giving thanks.

It says, be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Now, I have read that the average healthy, well-adjusted adult gets up at 7.30 in the morning and is feeling...

Wakes up in the morning feeling just plain terrible.

I don't know about this group, because there's a lot of people that show up here early.

But what I've learned to do is the moment I get up now, what do I do?

And whether I feel like it or not, I say, God, thank you for giving me another day of life.

And we walk by faith and not simply by feeling.

Anyways, this morning I went out to get a shower and on the second floor, I don't know why it takes forever for the hot water to come out in the men's shower.

And I waited about 10 minutes and I'm thinking, we're wasting a lot of water, so I finally jumped in And guess what, it was cold.

Anybody here this morning have a cold shower?
