A Mother’s Love Nurturing the Soul

Thank you, Devon, for reminding us that there's a Savior who can sympathize with our needs.

After all, Jesus Himself needed His mother.

And though Jesus was God with us, He was also human.

The message I have for you today is called A Mother's Love, Nurturing the Soul.

Let's acknowledge God together as we open His Word.

Father in heaven, we just want to pause to recognize that we need you.

And we pray that as we open the Bible, as we take a look at your life, we pray Lord that you would remind us of 1 of the greatest gifts you've given us as human beings.

Thank you Lord for blessing us, for speaking to us, in Jesus name, Amen.

You know as we as we glance through the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we can see how human Jesus was throughout his life.

You know, after 40 days fasting, yes, he was very hungry.

Another time, he was so tired, so tired that he was caught sleeping in the middle of a furious storm.

That's right kids there were no cars back in the days.

And Jesus walked from place to place to place, and he was so tired from walking that he would often ask his disciples, fellas, let's take a break and rest.

And when he lost a close friend because he was human, He wept.

You know, I recently went to see my doctor, which by God's grace I don't see very often, but I went to see my doctor for my yearly physical checkup.

You know how important that is when you're in your mid-40s.

And so I went to the doctor and and by God's grace I am here to tell you today that I am a healthy human being.

And in the same way, in the same way, a doctor in biblical times could examine Jesus with all the medical instruments available and still come to the inevitable conclusion that he was in every sense of the word a member of the human race.

That would have been the doctor's observation.

Well, he was baptized at the age of 30 and that's when his ministry, his earthly ministry launched.

So it was from 30s on that we we get, you know, really good stories, detailed stories of his last 3 some years.

But what about his early years, his young childhood, his middle childhood, his teenage years?

How about his 20-something period of life?

But what we do know is revealed in the Bible.

And we're gonna be taking a look at some verses here in this chapter.

You're welcome to use Bibles in front of you if you need it.

And in verses 25 to 38, it's a whole passage.

We're not going to take time to read that.

But in that passage, the holy infant child was only 40 days old, 40 days.

And he's blessed by both Simeon and Anna, 40 days old.

By verse 41, a few verses later, he's a 12-year-old teenager on his way to Jerusalem.

And notice the verse linking these 2 stages in Jesus' young life.

It says, and the child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

That's over a decade packed in that single verse.

In verses 41 to 50, another good chunk of the chapter, same chapter, the 12 year old teenager is amazing scholars in Jerusalem.

He's like, the scholars are speechless as they hear this teenage boy teaching them.

And by the first verse of the next chapter, which is not many verses later, he's 30 years old.

And it simply says, and Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.

While in the first transitional verse, if you want to put it that way, he was filled with wisdom, in the second transitional verse he's increased in wisdom.

In that single verse, the second of 2 in that chapter, there's over 18 years packed into that single verse.

So you got your 10-year verse here, decade over decade, and you got 18 years in the second verse.

And so, though not much is recorded, as you can see yourself in your Bible, not much is recorded about the life of Jesus, 1 thing I can tell you is this, and I think that you're going to agree with me, especially parents, especially mothers, And that is this, if Jesus was hungry, tired, and thirsty as an adult, logical conclusion would be is that he was hungry, tired, thirsty as a toddler, as a young child, as a toddler, as a teenager, as a young adult.

I mean Jesus was hungry, tired, thirsty often just as you and I are often hungry, tired, and thirsty ourselves.

And as a hungry, tired, and thirsty child needs the physical and emotional presence of their mother, so did Jesus.

And so what we're going to do today is we're going to actually search the Scriptures because we don't have a lot to draw from.

So we're going to actually focus our attention in a single chapter because that's all that we have.

But yet in that single chapter, we're going to take a look and see if we can find, shall we call it biblical snapshots, biblical snapshots of his mother's loving care and love in the early life of Jesus.
