From Pew to Hive: Transforming Your Church into a Beehive

Let's pray and invite His presence with us.

Heavenly Father, we're just so thankful that we can be here with You today.

We just thank You for all of the people that are here that seek You, that love You, Father.

Father, I pray as we study and grow this weekend that we can learn new thoughts and new ideas to think outside the box to work more efficiently and effectively for the kingdom.

Thank you Lord for all the dedicated people here.

We love you and we come in Christ's name.

The title to this class, make sure you're in the right 1, is From Pew to Hive, Transforming Your Church into a Beehive.

And this is based on a vision or a dream that Ellen White had.

And I want to read the dream to you, in case you've not read it lately or never have read it.

I want to read it to you so that you can understand where this kind of inspired the class.

So I dreamed that I saw, as it were, 2 beehives, 1 in San Francisco and 1 in Oakland.

In the hive in Oakland the bees were diligently at work.

Then I looked at the hive in San Francisco and saw that very little was being done.

The hive in Oakland seemed to be far more the promising.

After a time, my attention was again called to the hive in San Francisco, and I saw that an entire change had taken place.

During the past few years, the Beehive in San Francisco has been indeed a busy 1.

Many lines of Christian effort have been carried forward by our brethren and sisters there.

These included visiting the sick and destitute, finding homes for orphans and work for the unemployed, nursing the sick and teaching the truth from house to house, distributing literature, and conducting classes on healthful living and care of the sick.

A school for the children has been conducted in the basement of the Lugana Street Meeting House.

For a time, a working men's home and medical mission was maintained.

On Market street near the city hall, there were treatment rooms, operated as a branch of the St.

In the same locality was a health food store.

Near the center of the city, not far from the call building, was a vegetarian cafe, which was open 6 days in the week and entirely closed on Sabbath.

Along the waterfront, ship mission work was carried on.

I mean, can you imagine all this stuff going on in San Francisco?

At various times, our ministers conducted meetings in large halls in the city.

Thus, the warning message was given by many.

So, we're talking about 120 years ago, this was going on.

Let's list the things that were happening in San Francisco and see if we can get some info, drive what we could do today.

Now there's probably some things that they did that may not correspond exactly to what we would do in our culture today, but we can think outside the box and think of different ways in which to do these things.

First of all, the Beehive Dream fulfilled began with a mission-minded congregation.

You need to first have a whole church who is really all sold out to be doing mission in the city.

If your church isn't mission-minded, begin a prayer group.

If that's all you have that's really interested in seeing something happen in your church and grow it, get 2 people at least together or more to start praying for that, for revival among the church so that more will see the vision and really desire to go and do something in their community.

Number 3, revival is the result of prayer.

So that is what we should be doing first.

If you're a church, you know, you're trying to say, what can we do for the community?

What is it that we should be doing in our community?

Start seeking the Lord to know what to do in your community.

And begin a city mission with a multifaceted program.

First, you could go door to door and just ask what the needs are.

You could just simply say, what is, you know, you could have a survey and you could just be asking, what is it in this community you think is most needed?

And see if the church could fulfill that need.

Hi, I'm Cindy, and this is my friend Kathy, And we're going door to door today, just seeking to know our neighbors in our community, seeking what is needed.

What do you see is the biggest need in whatever town you live in?

And then come back and share the results of everyone going and doing that and deciding, okay, what is it that the community is saying and see if you as a church could fulfill that need.

You could also be doing surveys seeking Bible studies.

And there's lots of surveys, and I have them, and if you come see me, I'll give you my card, you can email me and ask me to send you the surveys.

I got all kinds of surveys I could send you, okay?

Also, the LEADS program, if you're not involved with the Leeds program in your church, see Jack or Chelly, who've been up front this weekend, and get your church involved in that Leeds program, because this is free.

The conference is paying for Facebook ads for free Bible studies.

And so when they sign up, boom, it goes into your 1 Accord account, because every church has 1.

And then whoever's the leads leader of your church will see all the leads that are coming in, and then they assign it to members in your church.

So if you're not doing that, please get your church involved in that.

Because you'll have people who are seeking Bible studies.

And we have so many stories of how many baptisms have been happening.

She responded and started studying together.

So you get to meet a new friend and see what happens.

It just changes their whole life and enriches yours.

And so get involved with the Leads program.

Also, get involved with some literature distribution in your church.

You can go door to door and give out great controversies or There's different things you can go to the chore and say, we're just seeking prayer requests for our community today.

Then write it down and make sure you pray for it.

And a month later, go back and say, how's that going?

Don't just drop it right there and just pray.

So there's lots of different ways that you can do this door-to-door work.

Nursing home ministries are always something very important to do.

I don't care what age you are, you are never too old to come to Jesus.

And I'll tell you what, my dad was 85 when my husband baptized him into the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

So it's never too late, never too late to share Jesus.

And if you have a homeless in your community, get together and put together some things that they need, and go out and visit them, and give them books, and talk to them, and pray with them.
