Teaching Wellness to Teaching the Word

My name is Cindy Kaiser and I'm so glad you chose to come to this class from teaching wellness to teaching the Word.

It's not, you're gonna see this isn't rocket science, how to take health evangelism to Bible evangelism.

It's really not hard to do, but it does take holy boldness.

Father God, we thank you for this opportunity to be together, to learn, and to hear your voice, speak to us.

Lord, today I pray that you would help us to be more bold for you.

We appreciate Elder Gibbs talked to us last night.

Help us to get outside the box of fear and to go boldly to share you with others.

Give us opportunities and divine appointments.

And we also pray as we do our health evangelism that we can be more effective for you and not just make healthy sinners but to make them to know Jesus Christ.

I've been doing cooking classes since the 1990s.

So I've been doing cooking classes for a very long time, but it hasn't been until the last 5 years that I've actually got Bible studies from them.

What I'm sharing with you today is what the Lord inspired me to do.

So, from the book, Ministry of Healing, page 140, it says, Physical healing is bound up with the Gospel commission.

In the work of the Gospel, teaching and healing are never to be separated." Never to be separated.

So I'm going to read to you a series of Spirit of Prophecy statements just to really bring home this idea.

Hopefully it's not my thing, because I'm recording this for AudioVerse.

Just if you guys don't know, we are all recording all the classes on AudioVerse.

So, back to this, what I want to do is read a bunch of Spirit of Prophecy quotes that will just really bring home to this importance of never separating physical healing with the gospel.

In the letter 40, 1889, it says, The ministry and the medical missionary work must be combined.

So this is like, and we have, we have lost sight of this.

In the Review and Herald, March 4, 1902, the union of Christ-like work for the body and Christ-like work for the soul is the true interpretation of the Gospel.

Manuscript Releases, Volume 1, page 228, Medical Missionary Work and the Gospel are what?

Manuscript Releases, Volume 13, page 206, Christ's ministers must stand in an altogether different position.

They must be evangelists and they must be what?

They must take hold of the work intelligently.

But it is no use for them to think that they can do this while they drop the work which God has said should be connected with the gospel.

So if we are not doing this work together, we are not fulfilling the Great Commission.

If they drop out in medical missionary work, they need not think that they can carry forward their work successfully, for they have only half the necessary facilities.

So you see, in this quote, we who teach the Bible need to know how to do medical missionary work and the Medical missionary workers need to know how to teach the Bible.

Medical missionary work, we have got this in our mind, thinking that we have to be trained in medical to be medical missionaries.

Well if you were in my last class you would have seen how in San Francisco there were those that were cutting hair, there were those that were working in the cafeteria serving food to the workers in San Francisco, There were those that were doing door-to-door work, literature evangelists, and there were some that were doing all kinds of, it was just a plethora of different work.

So if we're working for the mental good overall health of the person, we know the mind and the gut now better than we ever have of the connection.

If you are helping someone, if you pray with someone, you're helping their mind which will help their gut.

If you help their gut, they're going to be healthier physically and emotionally and spiritually.

So we've got to get out of this idea that medical missionary works we have to be nurses and doctors.

If we are, We did a health expo and I got a bunch of ladies to cut hair and to give free haircuts at the health expo.

And I remember 1 lady who left, and I actually got Bible studies with this lady, She said, I have not had my hair cut in so long, I feel healed.

But women, when we get our hair done, we feel healed.

And then she got some clothes that day that she could go.

She said, I've got to go to an interview.

I got my hair done and I got some nice clothes.

And then I said, would you like to do Bible studies?

She calls her husband, cut off our Bible study because he hates Seventh-day Adventists because he's Baptist.

But over the years I've worked on him and he's apologized to me for that.

But every Sabbath she sends me a text, Happy Sabbath.

She goes, Sydney, you know I'm a Seventh-day Adventist in my heart, right?

But her husband is so controlling and she just goes along with it.

We have to get outside of our box of thinking what is medical missionary work.

It says it cannot be separated from the gospel commission because it's healing.

And you know the word, the Greek word sozo, S-O-Z-O, means physical healing and spiritual healing.

They use the same word interchangeably all through the scriptures.

So when it says they're saved eternally for spiritual, to go to heaven, it's sozo.

If Jesus went around and healed the body, it's sozo.
