Do a little review like we normally do, we are learning that the sanctuary reveals God's plan to save a fallen world.

It's my joy to share this with you because it strengthens my own personal understanding as well, and it's just been laid out so beautifully and simply in the sanctuary message.

I also get so excited, and you probably know this, I get so excited to share Jesus' beautiful love.

And I believe it's this love that is brought out in the sanctuary.

As we've walked through the sanctuary, we've seen a model of how we come to Christ.

Then we walk daily in the sanctuary, reading the Bible, praying, and receiving an outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we walk every day with Him.

Now in the most holy place, we have looked at the day of judgment.

We've learned that judgment comes in 3 phases.

Then on Wednesday, we studied the second phase, which was the thousand years, also known as the millennium.

This thousand years begins with the second coming.

And at that time, the wicked are destroyed by His coming.

The righteous will be changed at the resurrection and ascension, when they're raptured.

Remember we as Adventists do believe the rapture, but rapture just means taken up.

We're raised up into the clouds to meet the Lord.

During the thousand years we learned that the saints will be in heaven engaged in judgment with Jesus.

We know that Satan will be bound to the earth in chains of darkness.

The earth once again will be without form or void, much like before creation.

During that time, the wicked, of course, are all dead.

Then at the end of the thousand years, Jesus returns with the saints and the New Jerusalem.

Remember we said the ultimate mobile home.

The wicked are resurrected and prepared to attack the city.

But before the attack actually begins, the presence of Jesus on the white throne of judgment comes down.

We read that every knee will bow, even the wicked, even Satan and his evil angels will bow before Him, recognizing Him as the Lord.

The wicked are judged and finally destroyed, and then God creates a new earth.

Now that was the very speedy version of what we spent a lot more time talking about.

This morning, we're going to focus on phase 3, when the wicked are finally destroyed.

And we're going to seek to answer 3 questions this morning.

And really what we're studying here is hell and hellfire.

We know the popular teaching today in the Christian world that when someone dies, if they were bad, they go to hell and they burn forever and ever and ever and ever and ever.

I believe This question is a very important 1, for not only for those that understand it, but we need to understand it and be able to defend it and share it.

Because it is a question of the character of God.

Number 1, what 2 cities are given as an example of the destruction of the wicked?

2nd Peter 2, 6, and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them to destruction making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly.

So the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah helps us understand the consequences of such events.

So first, God gives us a warning in Sodom and Gomorrah that sin will be destroyed.

The Bible here clearly says that the 2 cities were turned to ashes, right?

This helps us build a framework to understand what is going to happen to the wicked in the end.

The Bible uses the expressions wicked and righteous, or saved and lost.

I hope you've been to enough of these meetings or have studied to know that without Jesus, we all are wicked and evil.

The only thing that makes a difference is Christ.

It is only when we accept those that we are among the righteous, the saved.

So we shouldn't get prideful in being the saved, God's chosen.

It is only in His robes of righteousness we are saved, friends.

Returning to our text, the Apostle Peter is communicating that the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah serves as an example of what will happen to the wicked or the lost at the end of time.

This is the foundation text, but let's continue.

2, when will the wicked be destroyed in hellfire?

The word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day." We are finding that judgment is a process.

You have the investigation, investigative, we have the sentencing, we have the executive judgment.

We are looking at our previous presentation on Revelation 20 regarding the Millennium and what happens at the end of the Millennium.

I'm gonna read this 20 Revelation 20 14 and 15.

Then death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire.

And anyone not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire.

You see, this event that happens is at the end of time.

This is after the thousand years when the saints are in heaven.

2nd Peter 2.9, The Lord knows how to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.

So again, we're referring to an executive portion at the end of the millennium, the day of judgment.

Matthew 13, 40-42, Therefore, as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.

The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire.

There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." So when do the wicked finally get destroyed by fire?

This is not the day you died, this is at the end of the thousand years.

Number 3, if the wicked who have died are not in hell yet, where are they?

John 5, 28 and 29, Do not marvel at this, for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth, those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation." When we studied the millennium, remember the bookends of the Millennium.

The resurrection of the righteous at Christ's second coming.

Then the Millennium happens, and then at the end of the Millennium, the resurrection of the wicked or the lost and so in the meanwhile the wicked are in a dreamless sleep of death no passage of time Job 21 verse 30 and 32 For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom, they shall be brought out on the day of wrath.

This time, to the grave is going to the second death.

We're talking about the second death here.
