Out of Egypt, Upon This Mountain

All scripture is breathed by God and is practical for teaching, for exposure of error, for correction, and for instruction in godly living.

May we study scripture for if we do so we shall find an experience with the Father, beholding the Son, and understanding the power of the Holy Spirit.

How many of you stayed up last night to watch the things in the sky last night raise your hands the guilty ones raise your hands but you're here this morning God bless you God bless you there are others who stayed up last night and they are watching in their pajamas may God bless them and for those of you who have come out this morning may God bless you I'm gonna ask that you pray for me it's been quite the holiday season we've done a lot of traveling and I got sick.

1 of the worst things is to be up here at GYC and be hacking away.

And not just for me, but the entire convention.

I know you've been doing that and there's people in the prayer room, but specifically for the morning and evening devotionals, we ask for a special, special blessing.

How many of you made your New Year's resolutions already this morning and broke it?

All 4 of you have already broken it this morning.

There are some interesting New Year's resolutions online.

I'm not going to read some of them, but there are some of them that I have participated in doing and have broken.

1, to stop replying to toxic people in your texts.

Unfortunately, we have some toxic people around.

Some people call them EGRs, extra grace required.

I made a new year's resolution to stop doom scrolling, especially reels.

How many of you have just like, you find yourself and you're on your phones, yes or no?

It's okay, you're looking at me like, what, You have a phone?

And then like hours later you've been watching all good stuff but these mini reels of just nothing important in your life but Very important in your life.

And if you're saying yes, amen to you, God bless you.

If you're not, then you have no idea what I'm talking about, then God bless you also.

Reading the books that I buy, both print and digital, to stop asking Chat GPT about my symptoms especially when you're sick before GYC.

How many of you made a commitment this year in 2026 to say, look I want to read my Bible, Not just read my Bible, I want to study my Bible on a daily basis.

I go through different versions of the Bible.

I go on through KJV and NKJV and NASB and CSB, ESB and all the Vs.

And what I do is I don't like a checklist.

I don't like saying, oh I gotta read Genesis 1 through 3, check, and then I don't like that experience.

But what I do, I do have a list that I say, Lord I want to eat your word, I want to have my daily experience and I'm gonna eat until I get full and sometimes it's 1 or 2 verses man Those verses are so packed with with with with it's just like Adventist bread Yes so dense and so so like, you know, you eat you get all your calories in like 1 slice and then some parts I'm just reading 12345678 chapters and I'm just not getting a lot of it You just got to keep eating just gotta keep eating.

Yeah, I just keep eating eating eating Wonder Bread You can eat the whole thing and you've gotten like 1000000 calories and no nutrition.

Yes, I'm not saying the Bible is like wonder bread, but sometimes it's that experience, if you will.

But I check it off and it takes me about 4 years to get through a version.

And this year I have just completed the Christian Standard version.

Not my favorite, but just I want to get familiar with all the different nuances that scripture and translation have to provide.

The Old Testament is a great book to start.

You got creation, you got Noah, you got Abraham, and you got all this, you know, the fun stuff, all the kiddie, kindergarten stories come back to life.

You got the Red Sea and you got, you know, the Moses thing.

But somewhere around chapter 20, you all know chapter 20?

Adventists should be very familiar with chapter 20.

Around 20 and 25, you have the covenant code and from 25 to the end, about 40, you have the instructions of the sanctuary.

And then you go to Leviticus and you got all these recipes for Kentucky Fried Lamb and all this stuff.

You're like, oh man, Leviticus is super hard, and then Numbers, man, the Israelites are in the wilderness, I'm in the wilderness, it's really hard.

And Deuteronomy is probably the worst parts of the first 4 books all combined and put together in its own book, right?

So you have this is a horrible experience if you don't know what you're doing.

As you start reading scripture in the new year, I recommend that you get a good Bible study guide.

1 that I recommend is the Inverse Bible Study Guide that you can download on your app.

It is the official young adult General Conference Seventh-day Adventist Bible Study Guide that is provided to you for free and it goes through each of the books of the Bible.

Well, 1 that I recommend is Leviticus and Deuteronomy that have helped me personally, and we've just covered Exodus as well.

You can go to inversebible.org and download it and use whatever version you want.

This morning, we will study the book of Exodus.

So this morning, I'm going to ask that you lock into your Bibles, whether it's print or whether it's digital.

It's digital, it's fine, but put it on airplane mode because that cute girl or that cute guy will text you and you'll forget everything about the sermon and just lock into that other person.

So put it on airplane mode to shut that cute person out of your life.

This morning is entitled Out of Egypt, Upon This Mountain.

It starts in Exodus chapter 15, verse 17.

And before we read scripture, I know we prayed, but I ask that you bow your heads just 1 more time.

Gracious Father, I ask that you bless this strange group of people.

Everywhere else in the rest of the world, People stayed up drinking and inebriated, and some maybe even still hung over this morning, but this group has decided to spend the last night in consecration at midnight and also this morning have come out.

And Father, us coming out to a meeting has no merit in itself, but we ask that you see our hearts desire.

And we ask that you, through the foolishness of a man preaching up at front, through the medium of cameras and technology and a conference and just a weird setup of all this.

We ask that you bless this humble gathering.

Bless us with your Holy Spirit and help us to hear from him those things that we desperately need to hear and obey.

Chapter 15, verse 17, the Bible says, you will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which you have made for your own dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established." It's very interesting that God makes an analogy, a parallel, a comparison between the mountain, that is Mount Sinai, and the sanctuary.

The first half of Exodus, going from Egypt to Sinai, parallels the second half of Exodus' instructions of the sanctuary.

Your real-time wilderness experience of life has salvific parallels.

For those of you who may not know about the heaven of the sanctuary, it's kind of like God's house.

I'm going to use this illustration to make this a little bit more accessible, but outside of God's house, in the front yard, is you have a courtyard, a front lawn if you will.

And right in the middle is you have the brazen altar of sacrifice which we call a big barbecue grill where we barbecue veggie lamb.

Right in the middle between the house and the grill is a big bronze cleansing laver, a big kiddie pool full of water, and that's for outside.

The outside courtyard is considered the fountain of blood and the fountain of water where cleansing and forgiveness takes place.

Then you go inside God's house and now when you go inside God's house to the left you see a big golden candlestick, the big chandelier if you will.

On the right you have a golden table, a dining table made out of gold or made out of wood I should say, it's overlaid with gold and here you have a meal with the King.

And Right towards the center you have a golden altar of incense where you have the largest air purifier you've ever seen.

And then onto the inside of the most holy place, this is God's own bedroom if you will, you have the Ark of the Covenant which according to Hebrews chapter 9 there are 3 elements there.

God's house is paralleled with the experience of freeing Israel out of Egypt.
