The Present Present Truth

Father in heaven, thank you for the timeline that you give us and the fact that we can know not only who you are, but also where you are.

And not only what you're doing, but what we're supposed to be doing.

And that clarity helps us, it gives us confidence, and we need that, especially in these days.

So we again ask you to be with us as we continue.

Okay, we studied in our last hour the sanctuary and present truth.

And now we're gonna look at the present, present truth.

So we looked at the sanctuary and present truth, now the present, present truth.

And then we'll look later at a core truth about the present truth, which I think is a core understanding about life in Psalm 77, and then the joy and purpose of the present truth.

So, all about the present truth this time.

Now when I say the word present truth, what do you think of?

The present, the truth at the present, that's pretty good.

Jesus was talking 1 day, he said, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he's anointed me To preach the Gospels of the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and Recovery of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are bruised to preach the acceptable year of the Lord He knew his timeline didn't he?

And he closed the book he gave it to the minister and sat down and the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your hearing.

So here he is and he's saying, you know what, the present reality of what I'm saying is that this Bible text in your Bible is being fulfilled today.

Now how many of you would think that listening to a preacher like that would get your attention?

So here's somebody that was really saying something, and he was saying it on the basis of 2 things.

He knew exactly where he was in the sweep of time in history.

Do you think he understood Revelation 14?

And he understood where he was in time and history.

Now, if we're supposed to be like Jesus, how many of you think we're supposed to be like Jesus?

Then should we understand where we are in time in history?

And should we understand the present present truth?

In other words, the truth that is right up to date for right here and now.

Peter said this, for this reason I will not be negligent to remind you wise of these things, though you know and are established in the Present truth.

So in Peter's day was present truth important.

In Jesus' day was present truth important.

In early Adventist history was present truth important.

In Peter's time there was a present truth or truth applicable to that present time.

The church have ever had or has ever had a present truth.

The present truth now is that which shows present duty and the right position for us who are about to witness the time of trouble such as never was.

So James White also, an early Adventist pioneer, said we need to understand the present truth.

Okay, so is understanding the victory of Christ on the cross and salvation, would that be a present truth?

Has anyone ever talked about that before?

If you were to say out of all the Christian churches, is that really the Adventist purpose to talk about Christ and Calvary as the present truth?

That's not the reason for the Advent movement.

You could go to a Baptist church, they would say that.

You could go to a Methodist church, they would say that.

You could go to a Pentecostal church, you would say that.

You could go to any evangelical church, they would say that.

And how many of you are thankful for the truth of Christ and his atoning work on the cross.

But is that what we're called to bring out?

That is the Passover in our list of Leviticus 23, isn't it?

That's the foundation, But there were all kinds of other things going all the way up to the what?

The Day of Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles and all those things, right?

That many churches are not talking about.

So, whatever the present truth is, it certainly does not negate other truth.

Like I said before, you know, if we were doing jewelry, we probably wouldn't have a cross, we would have a sanctuary, because it gives a more complete picture of truth.

I do think that's definitely a present truth.

Are there other churches that talk about the Sabbath?

There's over 300 groups now in the world are talking about the Sabbath.

Did Adventists come up with this Sabbath doctrine?

So there is definitely an element of truth that we need to put that in the package of the Advent message, but it's certainly not something that people couldn't have gotten any, you said it's not available anywhere, so what would you say?

What is the present truth for God's church at this time?

I want to make a provocative suggestion to you that I think that what I'm about to say is the present truth.
