Learning from MRSA

Our Father and God in heaven, Father, I'm at your mercy right now.

Father, do for us that I cannot do for myself.

And Father, in spite of myself, may your people be blessed by the sharing of the word here today.

We ask for the Holy Spirit here be in a mighty way in our minds and our hearts.

And may mind, heart, and deed be touched by your love and prepare our hearts and minds for your son's soon return and that we motivated through action to declare the third angel's message with power and we ask for the Holy Spirit here in the mighty way in Jesus name amen.

Well a new school year is upon us here in Loma Linda.

We have the new medical school class coming in.

But as the new school year begins, there will be a lot of tests and quizzes that will be coming.

And you know, in this school called life, there are tests and quizzes.

In fact notice what inspiration says what our trials are in Heavenly Places page 269 paragraph 2.

By trial the Lord proves the strength of his children.

Does the spirit bear witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.

In the furnace of affliction, he purifies us from all draws.

He sends us trials not to cause needless pain, but to lead us to look to Him, to strengthen our endurance, to teach us that if we do not rebel to put our trust in Him, we shall see of His salvation.

You see, trials are like quizzes and Chapter exams because there is going to be a great final exam before Jesus comes which is the issue of Sabbath and Sunday worship and so our trials that happen the situations that we happen in this school called life are to prepare us for that great final exam.

It was from this disease that I found out about just when I got it called MRSA.

I'm not trying to blame my parents, but please bear with me.

You see, I'm from a Korean household, and Koreans, Korean culture, looks are everything.

You have to be handsome, you have to look good.

I had an orthodontic procedure that was gone wrong when I was little and my jaw was Not aligned and I had crooked teeth And so my parents throughout the years said Peter you need to get this fixed You need to get maxillofacial surgery and I said to my parents.

I'll have crooked teeth till Jesus comes.

And to have my jaw shut for like a month and not able to work, that was not open to negotiation.

And I praise God, you know, God in 1 Samuel 16 verse 7, God looked upon the heart and not the outward appearance, amen?

If he looked at my outward appearance, I'd be in trouble.

But my parents kept on haggling me and haggling me.

You know, 1 thing about Korean parents, they want their kids to be successful, but my parents were very supportive of me being in lay ministry.

And so, because of that, finally I relented and said, you know, I'm gonna get this surgery just to please my parents.

But, you know, to be a good commandment keeper and a good seventh dad, it's the honor of your father and your mother, amen?

Now, while I was being carted to the anesthesia department, I don't know these technical terms, I'm not very good at medical things, although my mom's a surgical nurse.

But anyway, as I was carted into the anesthesia place to put me under, I had this forbidding feeling or this premonition that things won't go well.

You see, this was at a non-adventist hospital.

I was being prepared to be anesthesia, and the song I was playing was some worldly song called Another 1 Bites the Dust.

That was a good feeling when you're about to be put under.

And so I woke up and I looked at my face and my face is swollen and I don't look like myself and I'm like, okay, is this worth it?

As it progressed, my doctor found an infection inside my cheek.

And so, What he did, what any good doctor would do, is prescribe penicillin for me.

Little did I know, or he knew, because it's my first time in a hospital with surgical procedures, my first time in a hospital for anything of this serious nature, Little did I know that I was allergic to penicillin.

And so at first, you know, I started itching and I'm like, what's going on?

It got worse and worse and I had bumps all over and I was itching all over and I happened to have the hives.

It was so painful that I tried to type in the computer, and I could not even type.

And in fact, I started to do Epsom salt baths and charcoal baths to try to alleviate the situation.

And 1 day when I was doing a charcoal bath, I collapsed in the bath.

And my mom rushed in and next thing I know paramedics were surrounding me and I was being rushed to the hospital.

Evidently, my eyes were in the back of my head, and I was rushed to the emergency room.

First time experiencing an emergency room.

And I couldn't even reflect on spiritual things because I was so focused on my physical condition.

But there was another man in the Bible that had a skin condition.

Notice what the Bible says in Job chapter 2.

The Bible says, So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown, and he took him a pot shirt to scrape himself withal, and he sat down among the ashes.

But on top of the skin condition, he lost his fortune.

Notice what the Bible says in Job chapter 1, verse 21.

The Bible says, and said, naked came I out of my mother's womb and naked shall I return hither.

And the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.

And all this Job said not, nor charged God foolishly.

He could have blamed God for everything and said, God, why'd you do this to me?

It is no happenstance that before these trials began, God saw Job as perfect and upright, a servant of him that extrueth evil, or hated evil.

Job was accounted perfect before the trial, therefore the trial revealed his character.

And it made me realize how much I'm far from that mark, and how much I need Jesus.

Job, when things looked hopeless, still clung to the faith.
