Getting Acquainted With Jesus

2 - My Drowning Brother

We thank you for this special day and for sharing your joy with us.

And I love the way you, everybody ought to know, That was good.

And if you're happy, what they did to show they're happy, didn't they?

What they didn't do, even the feet moved, didn't they?

Now we're going to talk about my drowning brother.

And it says, if any man see his brother sin a sin that's not unto death, We may ask and God will give him life.

When I was about 8 years of age, how old are you?

When I was about 8 years of age, I had a dream at midnight.

Big angry waves were lashing up against the shore and the ocean really foaming.

And I dreamed that my brother, 2 years older than I, he was just about the same size as I was, I dreamed that he was drowning and I saw him out there with the angry waves around him, and I saw his face looking pleadingly at me.

I knew what he was trying to say to me, save me, save me, save me.

And I knew there was no way I could save him.

Then I saw, just as he was kind of going down, Save me!

And the tears were rolling down my cheeks and my whole body was trembling.

And then I heard a voice, a thought voice.

It's not an audible voice, but it's just as clear as an audible voice, isn't it?

And it was the Lord, He said to me, you have brothers all over the world who are sinking in the waves, not of the water, but of sin.

Or a lot of people in the world and I said Lord I can't do anything right and it just was true it seemed I never could do anything right back home it seemed I ever did everything wrong any time that ever happened any of you that you seem to do a lot of things wrong when you wanted to do right?

And I said, Lord, I can't do anything right and I couldn't even save my brother.

How can I save a lot of people from the waves of sin?" And then that sweet thought voice said, I'll be with you, and I'll tell you how to do it, And I'll give you the strength to do it?

I'll guide you in doing it." I said, Lord, if you'll do that, since I've never been able to seem to do anything right, If you will teach me how and help me and give me strength and show me, I'll do it." And the tears rolled down my cheeks.

I said, Lord, take my life because that's what I want to do because I don't have the strength and Satan is so strong.

By the way, you know there's a lie going around?

There's a lie going around that the devil...

All right, if we can have everyone help us, too.

There's a lie going round, the devil can win.

I believe the victory is ours, the battles the Lord's, his strength our power.

Shout the shout of faith with me, sing the song of victory.

For our God is so willing, this very hour.

Temptations are great, but much more His power.

I believe the victory is ours, the battles the Lord's, His strength our power.

Shout the shout of faith with me, Sing the song of victory.

And the next morning after that dream, I had such a burden to see people ready, get ready to meet Jesus, that I'd go down, we're living out in the country, I'd walk down the road and I'd see a house on the right-hand side and I thought, are they ready to meet Jesus?

What can I do to help them to get ready to meet Jesus?

What can I do to help them be ready to meet Jesus?

It'd be a wonderful day to meet Jesus and have heaven with him and all the joys.

Now we were in the academy and we lived in a little house, a little cottage just on the border of the academy grounds.

And upstairs in that house was the bedroom of the same brother and me.

He was backsliding, and he was having a rough time.

The old devil was trying to win, you see.

And I knew Jesus saves because I'd had that dream.

And I'd read a lot about how Jesus loves to take over a person's life if we let him.

But my brother was so discouraged, it seemed to me that nobody pitied him.

It seemed they're just willing to let him go to the dogs.

3 - Jesus Keeps His Promises

And I want to tell you a story, and I'm going to let you choose which 1 of 3 stories you'd like to have me tell, because whichever 1 of the 3 I tell, they'll bring out the same thought that Jesus keeps his promises.

I will be willing to give you a wonderful dog story.

But I'll tell you something that's more clever than a dog.

And if you'd like, I'll tell you a real fox story.

But since my name is Coon, I'd like to tell you a Coon story.

Well, now, all right, I'll tell you all 3 in 1.

And the fox story revolves around 1 name, Sonny Fox.

And he was 6 years old when the story started.

So the fox story will be what happened in his life, how Jesus kept his promises, and it'll thrill you.

The dog story revolves around Sonny Fox's dog, Daisy.

And Daisy enters in the picture very dramatically.

The coon part is, when I learned about the story, I went to see Sonny Fox and I learned that this story is true.

And you'll be happy to know it's true because it ends up with somebody who comes to life again as the result of Sonny Fox's prayer, which shows that Jesus keeps his word.

Now you'll have to be very attentive because any minute I may turn and ask you a question and you'll want to be As to what I said, for instance, what was his name?

And he lived in Columbus, Georgia, which is a very damp place.

And Sonny was deathly sick, sick unto death.

They rushed him to hospital, I mean, to doctor, and the doctor said, Sonny, his disease is the type that he must get out of where it is so wet.

He must get to a very dry climate, namely Arizona.

You get him to Arizona, don't you waste any time, because if you do, he will die, so hurry and waste no time.

So Mother Fox decided they would sell things as fast as they could, and if they couldn't sell them fast enough, they would give them away.

And among the various things that she was going to do was to give Daisy, because she was a big dog, and they had to travel in a car and take everything in a car.

So since Daisy was so big, they were going to take his little puppy dog with him and give Daisy to a fine lady who had a nice home, we'll say Miss Green.

So she made arrangements with Miss Green to have Daisy.

But when little Sonny, hold on Sonny, 6, that's right, good, 6 years old.

So when little Sonny, 6 years old, learned that Daisy couldn't go to Arizona.

He came to the house and he said, Mommy, Would you please let Daisy go with us to Arizona?

She said, Sonny, we're going to take the little puppy.

We can't take a big dog when it comes time to eat dinner.

There'll be no room for food because the dog takes all the room.

So we're going to take the little puppy with us.

Sonny, I've explained to you that we have a nice home already for Daisy.

She loves doggies, and she's going to be so nice.

And with that, he fell down on his knees and he looked up to Jesus.

He said, dear Jesus, Would you please let Daisy go to Arizona?" And he gets up from his knees and he said, Mommy, Daisy is going to Arizona.

Mommy said, Sonny, I told you Daisy cannot go to Arizona.

I've told you that Daisy cannot go to Arizona.

Sonny, you've always been so obedient, and now all at once, you're contradicting me.

Because, Mommy, when I was on my knees and I asked Jesus to let Daisy go to Arizona, I heard, I heard Jesus say, Sonny, Daisy may go to Arizona.

If Jesus gives you a promise and nobody else knows about it, Don't you have a right to claim it?

Yes, because he said, God is not a man that he should lie.

She said, Sonny, I'm telling you now, Daisy cannot go to Arizona.

So there, and just as she said it, Miss Green was knocking at the door.

Fox, something very interesting just happened a few minutes ago.

Somebody came past my place with a lovely little puppy.

It's a kind of a puppy that I've wanted all the while, so we shall not need Daisy.

So Daisy went to Arizona and Sonny got an answer to prayer.

Now when you get an answer to prayer, do you know how happy it makes you?

He was so happy that he got an answer to prayer.

Jesus said, ask, Jesus said, ask and you'll receive and your joy will be full.

He was falling in love with Jesus and Satan doesn't want anybody to fall in love with Jesus, does he?

Satan is a devil and he's determined to make Sonny fall out of love of Jesus.

So Satan had a committee meeting to learn how they could agree to make Sonny fall out of love of Jesus.

A lot of them, all kinds of devils came in.

4 - Don’t Join the Gang

In other words, we want to show that 1 person with God is more powerful than a whole gang without God.

So in order to carry this out as we need to, we first need to have a president of this association.

Who would you choose as the president here?

He's the president He's a president some before we get through we may call him King.

In fact, we may call him King Then we need 1 young man Who will represent somebody that believes that God is more powerful than the gang.

Thank you We're going to call him Phil come Phil if you will.

Thank you and Phil is going to thank you.

He's dead right about here field of Phil and at the proper time we're going to have Phil kneel down like he'd be talking with Jesus, do you see?

And while this has a little drama, it's still very sacred, and yet we have a right to rejoice because here's somebody that's connecting with Jesus, you see.

Now, the reason that Phil is able to carry on his work so well is he talks to Jesus in the morning, he talks to Jesus at noon, And he talks to Jesus at night.

Does that remind you of any Bible character?

Then he gets up and he carries on his work very faithfully.

At noon, he kneels down and talks to Jesus.

Then he carries on his afternoon's work and very faithfully.

Then at night, he kneels down again and thanks Jesus for the day and Jesus gives him a good night's rest.

Now because he does so well, there is a little gang that is determined to ruin him and I need 3 of the smallest boys.

That 1 right there and 1 right in back of him and this 1 right over here.

Now you are going to represent the gang And you don't realize that that 1 man with Jesus is stronger than the gang see so you're gonna be kind of Now we need Because the gang is going to the president in a few minutes and they're gonna act so sweet and so nice to get him to sign a law.

That he doesn't realize what he's signing till after he does it.

But what they're after all the while is to get is to get Phil into the doghouse.

So we need 3 girls, all right, you and the girl back there and you.

We need these 3 girls to come right over here if you will to represent the dog house.

Now some might call them lions, really they'd be lionesses, Lionesses.

And the whole story is to make clear that 1 person with Jesus Christ is stronger than the what?

And the whole thing is to teach us that when people gang up on us and we see there's no hope, we don't know how we can carry on.

Remember that 1 person with the Lord is more powerful than the gang.

And 1 person by the Lord is so wonderful that even the dog house can't eat.

I mean, whoever that is, cannot eat them.

And he asks the Lord to help him to do his work faithfully and honestly, you see, and perfectly.

And he gets up and he carries on, a beautiful work for the Lord.

And the gang don't like it because he's promoted above them.

Because he has the Lord on his side and the Lord helps us to be careful doesn't he?

But they're not asking the Lord to help them so they get angry and jealous because this man is promoted above them and he should be promoted because he's more faithful, right?

So then the gang get their heads together.

And they say, now how are we going to handle him?

And they decide that what they'll do, since he prays every day, they'll get the king to ish an order that he can't pray to anybody but the the king.

And order the king to get the king to do that, they'll go to the king now, and they'll kind of pat the king, and kind of bow and scrape.

Now give him this and kind of smooth him out a little bit, you know, and smile and kind of like this, see, like that.

And you're telling him that he's so wonderful that nobody should pray to anybody but him for 30 days, and all he needs to do is sign this.

So you'll give him the pencil to sign, and he's gonna sign that nobody can talk to anybody, pray to anybody but himself for 30 days, and as he signs it, you'll see how he struts now.

The king feels so good that they're going to pray to him.

Then they'll take this and they'll be happy and then they'll bow to the king and they'll come over by themselves.

And then they'll get their heads together again.

We know that Phil prays to the Lord 3 times a day, and he'll be breaking this law.

5 - Stand Up For Jesus

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, and you will be helping us with this.

First of all, we want somebody to represent a king.

Then we would like someone who thinks you can act awfully big to represent an image.

And he'll come here and he'll stand so boastfully because he's going to be a great big image, all of gold.

So when we have him do it, he's going to just, oh, like this, see, look, see, look.

All right, then, until we get ready, he'll sit.

All right, then we're going to have, We're going to have 3 young men.

My, how can we choose with all of them being so nice?

Suppose just for that, suppose we take this young man with the green sweater, that's it, that's you, that's you.

And we'll take the 1 way over there, way over there, and we'll take you.

Now, there are some features of this that are almost laughable.

And we have the right to laugh, but we want you to know that there's also a part that's sacred.

So these 3 young men, when they get into a fire, we've got to have somebody represent Jesus.

And I've been thinking that maybe somebody represent Jesus ought to be tall and feminine, and at the proper time, she'd walk in the furnace with him.

And that's the best we can do, because we don't have Jesus himself.

You'll understand we're not trying to be sacrilegious, but we want people to know what it's all about.

Look at him now, look as arrogant as you can.

Yeah, and way straightened up and have your fists out like this.

That's it Now you are building a great big image Daniel Had told you that they're going to be 4 great kingdoms 1 of gold 1 of silver 1 of brass and 1 of iron and He said your kingdom was just the goal But after you are there going to be 4 out 3 others, and you don't like it.

So you've made an image all of gold to represent, and Here it is.

And can you just show it just a little bit?

And you're calling people from all over the country that they must worship that which represents you.

And as the music starts, and there's going to be some music here, as the music starts, all the rest of you, when he raises his hand, All of you are to kneel down to this excepted 3.

When he, after the music goes a little ways, he'll raise his hand and then you all are to, you don't have to kneel, just do this, just this.

He said, when you hear the music, I want you all to bow down to my image that represents me when he raises his hand.

There goes up the hand, there goes up the hand.

But wait a minute, everybody bows except 3.

And some of them who are bowing are peeking.

And then you get up quickly and you tell the king, there are 3, point to them, there are 3 that didn't bow, they stood up.

And the king looks at these men and he walks over and he's sweet to them, he pats them, and he says, I'll give you 1 more chance.

This time you're to bow down and just at the time he does it, these young men look at him and they point their finger at him.

That says we will not worship you, We worship the God of heaven.

And then they say, you don't have to give us another chance.

And you, and you, that's it, you, you, that's it, you, you, and you look mad, try to look mad.

And you're saying, you're going in the fiery furnace now, right now.

And so, the great big general of your army puts them right in that fire furnace, which is awfully close to them.

He's gonna move them right over that fiery furnace.

And just about that time, the king sits down.

And he calls on a couple of his generals, you come, and you come, And you both come right close to him.

And he's saying, didn't we put in just 3?

And he said, and look, that's a form of the fourth.

It looks like the 1 they've been talking about, like Jesus.

And as he talks, his knees begin to shake.

And this is what he says, and he gets up, and his knees are still shaking.

And he says this, Shadrach, and Meshach, and Abednego, come forth!

And then he has his men smell their garments.
