No Mistakes

I appreciated Darrell's prayer in that there are new people here.

Let's truly reach out to the new people because we want everybody to feel welcome and to receive all the blessings that each of us can receive.

Camp meeting is a blessing to us and we hope that it will be a blessing to you.

You know, just almost overwhelming to me to look around here and see the young people that used to be little and how big they are.

And it's exciting to see these young people growing up in the Lord and wanting to be here and using their talents to be a blessing to all of us.

And I just hope that each 1 of us here, those of you that have young children just realize that they grow up very quickly.

Our baby is 27 years old now and we're excited because we're going to have, well we're not going to have it, but we're going to be grandparents.

I was going to say we're going to have our first grandchild but you understand what I mean.

They're going to have our first grandchild, Emily, our middle daughter, and Isaac, they're expecting in December.

So it's exciting when you're going to have that first grandchild.

So that kind of dates us too, doesn't it?

But we're trying to do all we can to stave off the aging process.

It happens, but We work with it and cooperate with the Lord.

And tonight we're talking about living the word.

And we're going to start out tonight talking about the God who makes no mistakes.

Tonight, as we set the tone for this camp meeting, we need to believe what He says to us in Jeremiah 29, in verse 11.

He says, I know the thoughts that I think towards you.

He says, I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord.

They are thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you an expected end.

What kind of an end do you think God has for us?

When God created us, He created us to live forever.

And then, we've fallen, we've failed, we've turned away from our God, our Creator.

And so he prepared the way for us to be redeemed.

We have another opportunity to live forever.

And he says, I have thoughts of an expected end for you.

And that is the plan that he has for us here at Family Camp Meeting.

He wants to encourage us as we go through the next few days together, that the God who makes no mistakes is the God who has a plan for us to live with Him forever.

Then let's encourage 1 another as we go forward in this camp meeting.

I want to share a little bit from the story of Joseph.

Because sometimes in the setting that we're in tonight, and do you feel the encouragement?

I came in here listening to the young people up here singing and I just felt Such an encouragement of the Spirit of God already working in This campground.

And as we we've been fellowshipping already in the handshake.

And sometimes in this setting, when it's like that, and we can put our cares behind us for a few days, then It does all seem right, and it should seem right, but there are times that it doesn't feel right, and it doesn't look good, and we wonder why we're going through what we're going through, and it's sometimes in those situations that we have to remember that we serve a God who makes no mistakes.

And if we believe that, it will change the way we live our lives.

It will change our perspective as we go through trials.

And Joseph was raised in a home where he was a bit of a coddled, indulged, the favorite son among all of his brothers.

His father made him a coat of many colors signifying, you know, it really shouldn't have happened that way, but that was, Joseph was living that kind of life and we know that Joseph had a couple of very significant dreams And because of the kind of life he was living and being indulged, you know, the indulged child or the favored child doesn't always get viewed so well by the other brothers.

Let's see if anybody's willing to be honest.

Anybody here that was ever raised as an indulged child?

Okay, so that's why I ask, I don't ask questions just for everybody else.

My mother was run over by a school bus shortly after My father and mother were married.

A loaded school bus, the bus ended up running over her, picking up the very last student and the bus was full.

Crushed her from her clavicles, collarbones, all the way down to her knees, broke every bone in her body.

And the doctor said she would never bear children.

And they adopted my brother, who was 7 years older than me.

So you'd think that a miracle child would then get proper discipline, right?

And most parents who indulge a child or have favoritism with a child are blind to it.

I mean, they wouldn't admit it or they wouldn't think it usually.

And Joseph had lessons that he needed to learn.

And when he had his dreams, instead of being discreet about these dreams, you know, he dreamed that they were out in the field and all the sheaves bowed down to his sheaf.

They had harvested all the grain or the corn and they were bowing down to him.

And so the brothers were saying, so are you saying we're gonna bow down to you?

And then he has another dream and the whole family is going to bow down to him.

Does that make you feel real good when you're going to bow down to your little brother?

No, the favored child is not usually viewed very well.

And unfortunately, the favored child, the indulged child, have to learn lessons.

And I've had to learn some very difficult lessons through my life because my mother was always trying to make life easy for me.

I'm thankful that my dad counteracted that and made me learn to work hard.
