A Million Blazing Suns

Lift up the compass and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again.

Cheer up you pilgrims, be joyful and sing, Jesus is coming again.

From Los Angeles, California, we present the program of The Voice of Prophecy, a voice crying in the wilderness of these latter days, prepare ye the way of the Lord.

Coming again, coming again, Jesus is coming again.

Why should my heart be lonely I long for heaven and home, when Jesus is my portion.

My constant friend is he, His eye is on the sparrow, And I know he watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise, when songs give place to sighing, and hope I draw the closer to him, From care he sets me free His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.

O Lord, our omnipotent and everlasting Father, Thou hast filled the heavens with their starry hosts and laid the foundations of the earth.

Thy hand hung the worlds in space and fashioned the flowers of the field.

Thou hast filled the earth with beauty, and filled the air with song.

Great is the Lord, and of great power, and his understanding is infinite.

He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Uphold us, O Lord, by thy power, and guide us by thy wisdom, we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Near to the heart of God, a place where sin cannot molest.

O Jesus, blessed Redeemer, sent from the heart of God, Hold us who wait before thee, near to the heart of God.

But first of all a few responses to the question, what is the Voice of Prophecy doing to bring the peace and joy of Christ to the millions.

A letter from our son, who is on Guadalcanal, states that he tunes into The Voice of Prophecy program over the San Francisco station.

Every Lord's Day, he attends church with 35 native Solomon Islanders.

Well, he's also encouraging thank God for the radio whose slim arms reach out, bearing the message of hope into millions of hearts and homes.

What would the 20th century world do without the God-given sky medium of communication, the radio wave.

The station's firmament on high With all the blue ethereal sky.

Then spangled hem the shining frame Their great origin I'll proclaim.

The unwary son from day to day does his creator's power display, Shed to every land the work of an almighty hand.

What go in solemn silence, All around this dark terrestrial ball?

What cold, nor real, voice, nor sound amid their radiant harp defound?

Amid their radiant harp defound, In reason dear they all rejoice, And offer forth a glorious voice, And love her for the glorious voice, Forever singing as they shine.

For many years it's been the custom in our home for the family to gather together at the close of a Sabbath day, just as the sun is setting, and sing Mary Lathbury's evening hymn, Days dying in the West, Heaven is touching earth with rest.

Wait and worship, while the night sets her evening lamps alight through all the sky.

Lord of life beneath the dome of the universe, Thy home, gather us who seek Thy face to the fold of Thy embrace, for thou art nigh.

It is of those evening lamps, the beautiful stars, witnesses to the glory of their divine Creator that we speak today.

As it is written in the nineteenth Psalm, verses 1 to 3, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork.

Day unto day uttereth speech, night unto night showeth knowledge.

There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

Across the starry expanse of the midnight sky is written in fadeless glory the 1 word God.

Indeed this spacious firmament on high, with all the blue ethereal sky, and spangled heavens a shining frame, their great original proclaim, as Joseph Addison wrote, as our quartet sung.

The heavens are telling the 1 supreme fact, God is.

The sun, moon, stars bear witness that God exists, and that He is glorious, wise, and mighty beyond our comprehension.

Yes, it is true that the heavens do declare the glory of God.

They talk, they speak, they testify, even though we may not hear an audible voice from the dome of night.

What though in solemn silence all move round the dark terrestrial ball?

What though no real voice nor sound amid their radiant orbs it be found?

In reason's ear they all rejoice, and utter forth a glorious voice.

Forever singing as they shine, the hand that made us is divine.

From a billion blazing suns in far island universes comes a light-born chorus, the hand that made us is divine.

In childhood rhyme we used to say, twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are, up above the world, so high like a diamond in the sky.

But astronomers tell us that the stars are not little.

They also tell us what they are, not diamonds in the sky, but mighty blazing suns, some of which are many times larger than our own sun.

When we go out of doors on a clear night and look up at the stars, it is well to remember that every 1 of them is visible, that is, that are visible to the naked eye, with the exception of the 4 planets, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, is actually a sun.

The number of these stars sunned is beyond all human comprehension.

In Psalm 147, 4, we read that God telleth, or numberth, the number of the stars.

From the fact that God is able to number the stars, these billions of blazing suns, and call them all by name, what conclusion do we draw from this?

It's the inevitable deduction that as far as the human mind is concerned, the number of these star suns also must be infinite, beyond our comprehension, our ability to count or understand.

Forrest Ray Moulton of Chicago University, so far as the astronomic observations go, the stars may indeed be infinite in number and may occupy infinite space.

In Isaiah 40, 26, 28, we find God's call to the study of astronomy, His challenge to men to recognize Him as the Creator of the awesome sky.

And we read these words, Lift up your eyes on high, and behold, who hath created these things?

That bringeth out their host by number, he calleth them all by names, by the greatness of his might.

For that he is strong in power, not 1 faileth.

Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?

There is no searching of his understanding.

The prophet Jeremiah said, The host of heaven cannot be numbered.

And Job, realizing that some parts of the universe are hidden from view, said, Lo, these are parts of his ways, but how little a portion is heard of him, but the thunder of his power who can understand?

Look at the stars and see the power, the wisdom, and the glory of God.

Climb lone mountain peaks into the cool, clear atmosphere above the fog and smoke and glare of the cities.

Point your mighty 100 inch telescope toward the heavens, and watch the glittering procession of unnumbered universes, the silent march of the unfailing stars across the sky.

When we look at the heavens as God calls upon us to do, and see the miraculous precision of planetary movements, the overwhelming magnitude of space, the inconceivable numbers and distances of the stars.
