Remember the Sabbath

Father in heaven, we thank you for this wonderful Sabbath day.

And we only pray Lord that we can just glorify your name Lord.

That you would do a work through us and that we would commune with you today Father.

We could spend time with you and become closer to you, have quality time with you Lord.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ.

I'd like to read a quote from Patriarchs and Prophets page 33 paragraph 1.

This is from what's called the conflict of the ages series.

This series is a series by Ellen White and this series is a wonderful series that I think every Seventh-day Adventist should read.

Patriarchs and Prophets is the first of this series.

There's patriarchs and prophets, there's prophets and kings, there's desire of the ages, there's acts of the apostles, and there's the great controversy.

So in the beginning of this entire series here, these different books that were put in the series, the First quote, this is what's in the beginning.

The high and lofty 1 that inhabiteth eternity, whose ways are everlasting, changeth not.

With him is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." Isaiah 57 15 Habakkuk 3 6 and James 1 17 God is love And why is God love?

So the Sabbath is shown as the seal of God in Revelation 7.

Revelation 7, 1 to 3, Revelation 9, 1 to 4, Revelation 7, 1-3, Revelation 9, 1-4, and Revelation 14, 1.

Let's just look at a few of these passages here.

Revelation 7, 1-3, it says, And after these things I saw 4 angels standing on the 4 corners of the earth, holding the 4 winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth nor on the sea nor on any tree and I saw another angel ascending from the east having the seal of the living God and he cried with a loud voice to the 4 angels to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea saying hurt not the earth nor neither the sea nor the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

And the fifth angel sounded and I saw a star fall from heaven and the earth and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit and he opened the bottomless pit and there rose a smoke out of the pit as the smoke of a great furnace and the sea and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit and there came out of the smoke smoke locusts upon the earth and unto them was given power as the scorpions of the earth have power and It was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass nor the earth neither any green thing neither any tree but only those which did not have the seal of God in their foreheads." And finally let's turn to Revelation 14 verse 1.

He says, "...and I looked and Lo-E-Lam stood on the Mount Zion and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his father's names written on their foreheads." Now brothers and sisters, this message today will not be a message that's explicitly stating how it is the seal of God.

This message specifically will be showing why the Sabbath is so important to us and how it's not just a day.

This is why those people and there are many out there that say, oh we'll wait till the Sunday laws come and then we'll come.

That's not going to work because brothers and sisters, as we will figure out, having the seal of God is not just keeping his day.

But whenever you have a mark or a seal, there's always something behind it.

For example, for example, if you were to prod a cow with 1 of those irons, And it has some kind of stamp.

Now you have a seal or a stamp or a mark on that cow, correct?

Yes, that means that now there's something behind that, isn't it?

There's a whole corp- that means- it doesn't just mean, oh, now you got the seal and that's it.

Yes, that's the seal, that's the mark, but what's behind it?

Maybe it's some kind of slaughter company, okay?

It's the same type of thing with the Sabbath day and that is what we're going to dive into here.

For that let's turn to Exodus 20 verse 8 And we're gonna look at the Sabbath commandment.

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.

6 days shalt thou labor and do all thy works, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.

For in 6 days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day.

Wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it first thing that we're showing here is the Sabbath was not just given to the Jewish people and that will be evident in the next couple verses that we are going to read.

Let's read a quote from the Desire of Ages page 283.

It says, The Sabbath was not for Israel merely, but for the world.

It had been made known to man in Eden, and like the other precepts of the Decalogue, it is of imperishable obligation.

Of that law, of which the fourth commandment forms a part, Christ declares, till heaven and earth pass, 1 jot or 1 tittle shall in no wise pass from the law.

So long as the heavens and the earth endure, the Sabbath will continue as a sign of the Creator's power, and when Eden shall bloom on earth again, God's holy rest day will be honored by all beneath the sun.

From 1 Sabbath to another, the inhabitants of the glorified earth shall go up to worship before me, saith the Lord." How wonderful.

There are 3 things, 3 things that the Sabbath shows.

There are 3 different reasons why it's to be kept.

Let's go to Genesis chapter 2 and this is proof that the Sabbath was made not just for the Jews but for all men.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them and on the seventh day God and ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made and God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because that in which that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

And if we go to the book of Hebrews chapter 4 verse 3 it says, and we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, as I have shorn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For he spake in a certain place the seventh day on this wise and God did rest the seventh day from all his works and in this place again if they shall enter into my rest seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein and they do whom it was first preached entered not because of unbelief." So the Sabbath day is 1 in honor of creation, in honor of a powerful God who created this entire earth in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested from his creation.

I'm not going to explicitly go into why we know this Sabbath is the seventh day and on and on and on and on but what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna because this message is not about that this message is what the Sabbath is about what it is what is why it is so wonderful and imperative for us to keep You can imply because God rested on the seventh day that there was a seventh day.

Oh, well you're saying it could just be the first day from when God created the earth.

Well God said, da da da da, the first day, da da da da, the second day, the third day.

The interesting thing was, well, there's 2 things.

And this isn't a salvation issue, necessarily.

But I'm just showing what I see is that it can be implied from the text.

In Isaiah 66, and we will get to that, he says that from 1 Sabbath to another Sabbath they will worship before me.

Now that can be applied that either 1 of 2 things, either 1 there was a Sabbath before or 2 this was the first Sabbath.

I don't believe this is the first Sabbath.

I don't believe it is but regardless that that's just what I feel is implied from the verses.
