The Right Arm, Adventist Doctrine, and the Mark of the Beast

So this morning we're going to start our first of 3 parts, I guess this afternoon, part 2 and part 3, of looking at health.

And this morning I've called it the Right Arm Adventist Doctrine and the Mark of the Beef.

What's really bottom line is I'm going to be talking about how the health message is the foundation or is a good way to introduce many of our doctrines.

Now, before we begin, let's just have an added word of prayer and ask the Lord to bless us again Father in heaven we're thankful we ask that your spirit would be with us this morning we're thankful for life and the ability to study and we ask that your spirit would be with us and we come in Christ's name, Amen the right arm adventist doctrine of the mark of the beast now what do you suppose I call it the right arm this talk today anyone have any ideas what are some of the evidence known for what's that the other are actually even though some are not living up to it.

But because in terms of the health methods, many people think of Adventists as being known people that have the health methods.

Case in point, a couple years ago, the National Geographic, the Secrets of Living Longer, and 1 of the groups that was profiled were Seventh-day Adventists.

And there's this all kinds of focus on it, Seventh-day Adventist longevity, the women of the church lived 2 to 5 years longer than the men, 4 to 10 years longer in many different studies.

Well, 1 reason is because of the the pioneers of the church 1 of which was Ellen White she said things like the medical missionary work is to be the work of the church as the right arm is to the body.

Medical missionary work is the right hand of the gospel.

The right hand is used to open doors through which the body may find entrance.

This is part of the medical missionary work is to act.

So this whole idea of the right arm or the health message is something that comes out of those writings.

But if you were to ask Ellen White, if she was alive today, whether or not we should just go that far, she would probably say something like this, Don't repeat what I said, saying sister white said this and sister white said that find out what the lord god of israel says and do what he commands so what I want to do today is look at at what the bible says a little bit about the right arm and then we will also look at how each of the Adventist doctrines are kind of related to the health message okay that's what we're going to try and do now if you come by the amazing facts booth this afternoon I'll give you a copy of a little bible study it's actually on our flyer that we give to everyone that comes by the booth that what that flyer has on it is a study from revelation chapter 1 and if I was to ask you what chapter in the Bible summarizes all the Adventist doctrines you know what chapter it would be?

Revelation chapter 1 so why don't you open your Bibles to Revelation chapter 1 and we're going to go through that, Revelation chapter 1 and we're going to look at each of the Adventist doctrines because the core doctrines are all mentioned there.

The first doctrine that's mentioned in Revelation 1 is the Scriptures, the second 1 is salvation, the third 1 is the second coming, the fourth 1 is the Sabbath, the fifth 1 is the sanctuary, the sixth 1 is the state of the dead, the next 1 is the spirit of prophecy, and the last 1 is the saints.

They're all mentioned right there in Revelation chapter 1.

So if someone asks you what does 7th-day Adventist believe, you don't say, oh, let me go get my 28 or 7 or whatever it is fundamentally, you just say, no.

I want to look with you at Revelation chapter 1.

How many think that sounds a lot easier and that once you get through with this morning you at least know of where to go to show people what you believe which is revelation chapter 1 so little bit before I get into revelation chapter 1 just a little little bit of a testimony I'm a registered nurse and How many of you are either studying or in a health area?

And it was while working as a registered nurse that I actually was converted.

I had become, I think I mentioned last night, I had become disillusioned and became an atheist agnostic while attending an Adventist university, which I'd like to say probably is not typical, but actually it was the most honest thing for me to do at that particular time.

And I think that honesty is probably better than being dishonest about what you believe.

I finished that and started to work in a hospital.

She had a triple A and that wasn't insurance.

That was an aortic abdominal aneurysm and she was about ready to die.

You know, this big huge vein or artery called the aorta was just kind of a...

Basically, she's ready to pop because that's what an aneurysm is.

So all they could do was to give her some medication to lower her blood pressure and to just get her ready to die.

So I was there working with her and I went into her room and she began to talk to me and she said, what do you think happens to people when they die?

Well I was a self-proclaimed atheist and I said, I don't know, I've never died.

And that didn't seem to satisfy her too much.

And she kept asking me, well, why don't you know?

Have you ever thought about that?� And I said, �Well, I really don�t talk about that.

I don�t bring these kind of things into my work experience.

I know that you�re facing some traumatic times, but please, you know, why don't we just stick to what we're here for?" Which for her was to die, you know, which is exactly what she didn't want to stick to doing.

To make a long story longer, she was not satisfied with my answers to anything.

So I told her, I said, look, let me be honest with you, I'm an atheist.

I've been 1 all my life and now that I'm about to die it's not working for me.

So, the next day, she comes in and she kept asking me questions and finally she said to me, she goes, why are you an atheist?

In fact, I'm a fourth generation Adventist pastor, he was a minister.

You know, Nietzsche's father was a minister, Karl Marx.

Karl Marx was from a long line of rabbis, and she went through all of these very famous atheists that I thought were great, and showed me how all their parents, their fathers had been, you know, men of the cloth.

And she said, and then the way I look, she goes, your dad is a minister, isn't he?

And then she says, well tell me what he would say in answer to my questions.

So I said, well if you're about to die, my dad would say that you need to accept the Lord Jesus Christ and then everything's going to be alright, but that's crazy.

I said, how would you accept the Lord Jesus Christ, he asked me.

You know, and I said, well, I don't know, well what would your dad say?

I got so traumatized, I tried to get away from the lady.

I said, I don't want to take care of that lady.

But they put me back with the lady, back with the lady, back with the lady every single day because her 2 sons were very prominent physicians in the hospital.

In fact, 1 was a cardiothoracic surgeon and the other was a cardiologist.

I remember the last day she was alive, I went into work and she was fine when I went the first time, but around 6 or 7 in the evening her light went on and she said she had all kinds of pain and I went into her room and as she was there, she was breathing with great difficulty, she was diaphoretic, she was sweating, and I knew that her aneurysm was probably dissecting, she was going to die.

So we called all the family, they all came.

And in her last moments of life, they were all there, and they ordered some morphine for her.

And when they ordered that morphine, I was supposed to give the morphine, go in and give it to her by IV.

I went in to give it to her and she could hardly talk.

She was in the last moments of life and I said, I'm here to give you the morphine and she says, I don't want the morphine.

And she says, I would like you to pray for me that's her last words and I told her that I didn't pray I said I don't pray and there was a nurse with me her name was Dottie and she jumped across the bed literally jumped across the bed and grabbed me by the neck she said you pray for that lady and I prayed for her then because that lady would have killed me.

She died while I was praying for her and I didn't even believe.

I left the hospital and I went to South America.

To make a long story short, that lady's asking me to pray and then the prayers of others brought me back to the Lord.

So, those of you that are going into health and what not, Many times the patients minister to you.

I wouldn't be here today without that patient's testimony.

An atheist who became a Christian in the last moments of her life and asked me to pray for her.

When I came back and I was converted, I had a great interest in health.

Now being a nurse was a joy, whereas before it was very hard because I was only a nurse because I like to hang out with all the nurses, which is probably not the best motivation to be a nurse but then I was converted you understand what I'm saying?

Leading People from Health to Him

This morning, how many of you were here this morning?

The rest of you were not, so let me, would you take 1 of these and pass it around to everybody?

This morning we talked about the right arm which is the health work the Adventist doctrine and the mark of the beast and we talked about how the health message is related to each of the key doctrines of the Adventist church And each of the key doctrines of the Adventist Church, right in your little flyer that I gave you, each of the key doctrines of the Adventist Church are found in Revelation chapter 1.

And that Bible study is right here inside this flyer called, Sharpen Your Sickle with facts not opinions.

And all of the S's, how many of you can remind me of what S's you find in Revelation 1?

Scriptures, then salvation, then second coming, then the Sabbath, then the Sanctuary, then the State of the Dead, then the Spirit of Prophecy, and then the Saints, or the Church.

All of those teachings are kind of crystallized in Revelation chapter 1.

So that's a good study guide for you, And that way you can have it in 1 place.

The rest of course, the flyer tells a little bit about our program at the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism.

Well this afternoon, I wanted to take the second step.

After we've seen that all of these different doctrines are related to the health message and how the health message just kind of opens it up.

We want to then see some principles on leading people from health to him.

Or in other words, as we minister to their health needs, how we can lead them from that to Jesus.

How many think that's probably a good idea?

Well that's what this seminar is about so if you're on the wrong plane heading the wrong place we're going to close the door here and depart momentarily This is my wife, just to introduce you to my family a little bit.

She broke her little arm last week And so she has a pink cast on, but she's doing okay now.

Or as they say in Romania, she's a schmackere.

You know, She's actually a very cunning little girl.

It's amazing what they can do with photography now.

That's his of course heart and if you're wise enough you can tell why he's a boy based on that picture as well.

I mean, he looks like he's going to be trouble already, I think.

And you know, he's kind of lived up to that.

Malcolm at the end, because he's the last child so far.

I mean, don't let my wife hear that, because she would be terrified.

But malcolm means mal means the follower of and columbians the dot the follower of the dot that's what malcolm means and columbus and columbia in scotland where the early patron saint if you will of that nation And so those that followed them were called Malchimites.

You probably didn't want to know that, but now that you do, don't forget it.

And this is his little house inside our house.

And he likes to dress up in dresses, but we don't know what that means yet.

So anyway, I thought you might want to know my family a little bit.

Well, let's just pray together again, ask the Lord to then bless us as we study this afternoon.

Father in heaven, we're thankful that you came and you led people with your health message to your Father, to yourself.

Everything you said, basically the Father told you to say.

Every time you spoke, you said, verily, verily, which was a marker that you were saying exactly what He had told you to say.

We want to be like that, radical disciples for you as we've been challenged in today's message and so bless us as we now continue to study how we can do that in the arena of health and health evangelism in christ's name we pray amen okay you know leading people from health to him.

Now this is an earlier lecture I can tell.

If your church was to shut down with a community notice, what program or service would they want to continue?

In other words, how many of you heard the message today?

How many of you were not there for the message today, for Jeffrey?

Well, basically what he said is that you've got to believe in a radical way and turn the world upside down that's basically it he says why aren't you doing that well and if you're not doing that then do you really believe that was really the message but it took about an hour to say it and it was very good the way he said it you know when Jesus came he was radical see back in the New Testament time I'm sorry I didn't mean to touch you without permission I was signing a release form but back in the back in Jesus time you know there were 2 big classes of people there were the prophets and there were the priests well actually it was just the priests and the priests were the type of people that really like to run the institution you know like for instance they had the goats and the lambs and the rams and they'd sell them so you could have a sacrifice you know this was big business so they'd come and they'd sell them in the temple and then they would also figure out how to make money on the exchange rate they also would figure out how to make money on the travel expenses you know they usually would not fly Delta back then or anything else but they'd travel you know and they'd have that all figured out they'd have places for them to live and they would make money on the places they had to live they really had it going on, I mean they were making a lot of money but then the prophetic voice like John the Baptist would come along and say repent and clean out the temple you know and then Jesus came they didn't like the prophetic voice and usually prophets got killed now if Jeffrey would have been preaching today and he says alright all of us are gonna leave Southern University right now and proclaim the gospel, that would have been over the edge they would have come and taken him away right?

Alright I'm not suggesting that even here because I don't want them to take me away either But there's this tension between the priests and the prophets.

And this was even magnified more in Jesus' ministry, because, you know, it says in Matthew chapter 9, verse 35, and Jesus went everywhere, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and disease among the people so he came and he went everywhere, I mean look at this, it's a great acronym he did restoring restoration he did education every time he healed someone he'd go after they healed him he said go show yourself to the priest go and sin no more this was education so they'd be really happy and then he'd go go and sin no more so the restoration always led to education and then he would educate, he said go show yourself to the priest because he wanted to educate the priest too and then you know everyone knows that Jesus would always say but don't tell anybody the guy hasn't walked for 30 years the woman has had this bleeding for 12 years and finally she gets over it, he says don't tell anybody did anyone ever actually do what Jesus said with that?

No, they just jumped up, they rejoiced, they told everybody, so restoration led to education, restoration to education led to adoration, they adored Jesus and then they reached out they couldn't help they said don't tell him but they would join him in proclamation reap I'm gonna like that little acronym R-E-A-P reap that's what would happen so Jesus he went about that now why is that to the side Does anyone know why that went to the side like that?

Must have been something that went wrong.

I can only tell you that mine, the small screen app, was the 1 that I can't remember how to fix.

Okay, so how many of you are with me so far?

What’s the Connection?

Well, let's get started and see if the remnant that deserted us comes back or not.

First of all, all of the lectures in every seminar, as far as I know, are being put on a website called audioverse.org.

How many of you are familiar with this already?

Those of you who want my notes, You can download those by going to the Amazing Facts website and then going to afco.com.

And then they'll ask you to register, which is no big deal.

I mean, they're not going to turn you into another denomination or anything.

And then you can go to a site and they'll have you download that.

So you can download my files from here and also the talks I gave on the sanctuary at GYC.

So the audios will be available on Audioverse, and I'll probably put the audios along with the actual notes on this.

I'll download them from Audioverse and put them both together.

Okay, so in our last time together, we looked at these S's, and we were discerning how it is that you lead people from health to Him.

And the first thing is you have to have scientific excellence.

The fourth thing was significant interaction.

Now once that spiritual pathway is established, like we saw the difference between a spiritual nature and the fleshly nature, those 2 war against each other, but once that's established, this is what happens.

Those who are willing to inform themselves concerning the effect of sinful indulgement upon the health, and who commence the work of reform, even if it be from selfish motives, in so doing place themselves where the truth of God may find access to their hearts." So in other words, when someone comes to your program, and they might come for, like, all the wrong reasons, they're just, you know, selfishly there, then something begins to happen to them.

And once that begins to happen to them, they're just drawn towards the Master and the message.

And I've seen that happen again And again and again.

I'll tell you 1 story about this guy named David.

He came to 1 seminar and he was a very large man.

And yet he still was just not wanting to do the right things.

He actually came to the seminar because his wife dragged him to the seminar.

Well, didn't drag him, put him in the truck and pulled him.

And he had actually brought food with him to eat while he was in the restroom.

You know, he would go out and he'd like, and he'd come back in.

He was he was eating I mean he had a real food addiction you know and he was there But then he started to listen and started to grip him I Went over to his house.

He could hardly even listen through a Bible study You know he asked me to study the Bible with him He wanted to know about that, but he would go to sleep.

So I figured if I get him up walking, it's going to be hard for him to go to sleep.

But finally, after about a year of studying with him, he was actually walking a mile around this block.

And I can remember studying this 2300 days with him in the sand you know and drawing it out in the sand and things with him and so what had happened was he came to this seminar but then he was gripped you know so gripped by his charms Stripped by his charms and equipped by his charms.

So when people come even though they're selfish that it can really change Their hearts and their minds tell you another story about this guy.

His name was George He came to a health seminar the last 1 I had in Wichita And this guy was an interesting guy.

He again was an engineer type, and he came at first, and he was just interested in all the statistics and whatnot of the program.

He's the engineer that actually put the electrical system in this plane behind him, the Global Flyer, the 1 that flew around the world with Steve Fawcett.

And the scientific excellence gripped him, but then the sacrificial service really got to him, because we went to visit his wife in the hospital when she got pneumonia.

And when I did that, he goes, man, no 1 has ever come to visit.

Why don't you come over to my house?" So I went over to his house, and there he had on the desk, he had all kinds of books, and he was studying all about Adventists and all about all these different things.

He was an atheist agnostic, and over the months, he just began to come along.

He began to come along to the Lord and began to get open to the to the Bible to the source of authority called the Bible and I'll show you the study that I gave him in just a minute here so here's our element scientific excellence coupled with sacrificial service over a sufficient amount of time, with significant interaction, will establish a spiritual pathway.

And when these elements are present, people will naturally begin to ask the question, they'll ask, what's the connection?

What's the connection between this and your church?

What's the connection between this and your faith?

You see, this is really the secret of living a radical life of discipleship.

How many of you heard the sermon this morning?

Jeffrey works at a ministry called Radiant Living.

They want to live lives that are so radiant that people will see that and they'll go, wow!

He went up the mountain, he came down the mountain, and it says he had coruscations.

It's kind of a confusing word, but it's kind of like a halo.

Okay, well anyway, you'll probably get your, if you don't want to have 1, you'll probably get your wish.

But anyway, that word was so confusing that the Latin Vulgate translated it, horns.

How many of you have ever seen the statue of Moses?

At the Lateran Cathedral or maybe I think that's where it is, St.

So they thought that that word meant horns.

But what it really meant was that there was such a glow coming from Him.

And so when that happens, when you serve people effectively, then they see that scientific excellence and they're gripped.

Then they'll begin to ask the question, what's the connection between this and your church?

And what I do then is I start to talk to them about the source of authority you know what source of authority do they use in their life everybody has a source of authority it might be their grandmother it might be their mother-in-law might be their wife it might be their kids but ultimately the best thing it has to be is what God's Word right so the source of authority we talked about the source of authority And we want to move beyond the science to scripture.

Now this morning, in the first lecture this morning, what I talked about was that basically, I'll repeat it now because some of you are new.

You see, basically the Bible lays the foundation for science, not the other way around.
