What happened on October 22?

For many, that date recalls the Great Disappointment of 1844—an event that ultimately led to the birth of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. But 161 years later, on October 22, 2005, something else was born: AudioVerse!

This means that today, we are celebrating 20 years of ministry in sharing God’s Word around the world!

From Dorm Room to Global Ministry

It all started in 2005 with two young men at Loma Linda University—Tim Arakawa and Curtis Farnham—who simply wanted to make sermons from Advent HOPE Sabbath School easier to share. Week after week, they burned CDs for distribution, until one day they asked, “Why don’t we just post the MP3s online?” In those early days before Facebook or the iPhone, that small idea sparked into something far bigger than they ever imagined. Thus were the humble beginnings of AudioVerse.

Like how Ellen White once described how the Review and Herald would go from small beginnings to ultimately spread “like streams of light… clear round the world,” (LS 125) AudioVerse started very small but has grown beyond all expectations. From the proverbial university dorm room, it has become a global ministry bringing God’s Word to countless listeners.

Today, through partnerships with ministries like ASI, AMEN, GYC and many others, and with direct access to homes and hearts across continents, AudioVerse has shared more than 60 million messages of truth and hope. What began as one small act of faith has grown to lighten the world with streams of God’s light.

New Tech for an Old Message

Over the past 20 years, technology has changed dramatically—from iPods to iPhones, from simple websites to sophisticated apps—but AudioVerse’s mission has remained the same: To share God’s Word through the timeless power of the spoken message. While technology trends come and go, the need to hear the Truth has never been greater. We’ve simply used the tools of our era to make that message more accessible, so that wherever people are—at home, on the road, or across the world—they can easily hear the Everlasting Gospel.

In an online world filled with noise and distraction, we’ve been intentional about making AudioVerse a place of peace—a digital oasis where listeners can find sound doctrine and spiritual refreshment. Our listeners often tell us that AudioVerse feels like “a safe place on the internet,” and we thank God for that. As technology continues to evolve, we remain committed to using it faithfully to draw hearts to Jesus and to prepare souls for His return.

People are the Purpose

And we praise God that there is clear evidence of eternal impacts on precious people all around the world. We are always gratified to hear of the lives changed due to the influence of AudioVerse.

There are those who chose to become ministers of the gospel or ministry leaders because of AudioVerse. There are missionaries who have committed to selfless service because of appeals they heard on AudioVerse. There are others who have come back to the church because of AudioVerse. There are those who find health and healing through seminars on AudioVerse. There are parents who decide to homeschool their kids and move to the country due to AudioVerse. There are young people who find their life’s calling because of a sermon on AudioVerse. There are decisions for baptism and genuine conversions and new ministries raised up because of the influence of AudioVerse.

All this from a simple idea from two medical school students. Truly, what has God wrought!
