Time No Longer Part 1

A couple of announcements before I get into the message today.

You notice that in the bulletin, this session at 10 o'clock or 10.20 now it is, is Time No Longer Part 1.

And what we are discussing today are time prophecies at the end times.

What does the Bible have to say about them?

It's actually a fairly involved study, and I won't give too much of it away right now, but I encourage you to come this afternoon.

This morning will be more of a sermon type Bible study message that is directly connected with what we're going to talk about this afternoon.

This afternoon is going to be much more of a spirit of prophecy study.

There'll be slides and there'll be more of a lecture style.

I always hesitate to use that word because it comes with negative connotation, but that's what it is.

And also, the audio guys, Ken, you're listening, last week we had a Revelation chapter 10 lesson study up in the balcony with Revelation class, and it was sort of a foundation for the 2 messages for today.

And for the sake of audio verse listeners, we're going to try to re-record that and after talking with the AV guys, maybe we can do it this afternoon, possibly.

So, come at 04:00, we'll have more details then, and if anything, we might have a, the redo of the Revelation 10 Bible study afterwards, okay?

Once in a while I get the feeling that everything is sort of lining up.

For example, today the opening song that we sang, Watch These Saints, was the best possible song we could have chosen for this message, because it's exactly what I'm talking about today.

So let's bow our heads and we'll get right into it.

Father in heaven, we are so thankful for life and freedom.

And we recognize that it is a gift from you.

And today as we contemplate our role in the end times now, may you inspire us, motivate us out of genuine love for you.

If you have your Bibles, please turn them with me to Revelation chapter 10.

If you're there, let me hear you say amen.

I think the few of you who found it just say amen really loud because everyone else is still turning their pages.

But I'll give you a few more seconds here.

Revelation chapter 10, we will read from verse 1 to verse 6.

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.

And he had in his hand a little book open, and he set his right foot upon the sea and his left foot upon the earth, and cried with a loud voice as when a lion roareth.

And when he had cried, 7 thunders uttered their voices.

And when the 7 thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the 7 thunders uttered, and write them not.

And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, and swear by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that therein are, and the earth and the things that therein are, and the sea and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer.

Revelation chapter 10 opens us with a picture of a very decked out, if I could use that common vernacular, angel.

He's clothed with all sorts of interesting garments.

And I'm not going to take the time to go through all of that, but if you study it out, or if you come to Revelation Bible study, we discover that that angel was indeed Jesus.

And Jesus comes down from heaven and he has a little book open in his hand.

And this little book, we discovered, was the book of Daniel.

And the book is open, which infers that at 1 point it was closed.

So how do we know that this is the book of Daniel?

Turn your Bibles now to Daniel chapter 12.

And keep your finger back in Revelation chapter 10.

Revelation chapter 10 and Daniel chapter 12 are 2 very intricately linked chapters in the Bible.

Daniel chapter 12, let's look in verse 8.

Daniel speaking here, he says, and I heard, but I understood not.

Then said I, oh my Lord, when shall be the end of these things?

Verse 9, And he said, go thy way Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

So here God says to Daniel, the book that you have just written, it is sealed up until a certain time, the time of the end.

And once we come to the time of the end, that's when the book will be opened.

So logically speaking, when the angel comes down from heaven in Revelation chapter 10 and the little book is opened, we can conclude that that time is actually the time of the end.

Let's take a few steps back in Daniel chapter 12, verse 6.

Daniel 12, verse 6, "'And 1 said to the man clothed in linen, "'which was upon the waters of the river, "'how long shall it be to the end of these wonders?' Verse 7, "'And I heard the man clothed in linen, "'which was upon the waters of the river how long shall it be to the end of these wonders verse 7 and I heard the man clothed in linen which was upon the waters of the river when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven and swear by him that liveth forever and ever by the way doesn't that description of the angel look familiar to something we just read in Revelation chapter 10?

He swears by him that liveth forever and ever that it shall be for a time, times and a half, when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people.

So what we see here is an individual asks the angel or the man whose clothed in linen in the middle of the river, how long will these wonders be?

And his answer is, it will be for a time, times and a half.

I won't go into all the discussion, that's 1260 prophetic days or 1260 literal years.

And then Daniel in verse 8, that's what we read earlier.

Daniel pipes up, he says, I heard, but I understood not.

Then I said, then said I, oh my Lord, when shall the end of these things be?

So you see Daniel, he heard the prophecy, Time, times and a half, 1260 years, but he didn't understand, so he asked the question again.

The answer is going to be the same thing as time, times and a half, only in different words.

Verse 9 tells us it is until the time of the end.

So putting these 2 things together, what I'm simply saying is, the time of the end begins at the conclusion of the 1260 years of Bible prophecy.

So keep your finger in Daniel chapter 12 right at the moment.

We're going to come back to it 1 more time.

But let's go back to Revelation chapter 10.

So here we have a few pieces of information already.

The little book that was opened was the book of Daniel.

And the book of Daniel was opened at the conclusion of the 1260, which is the time of the end.

And so Revelation chapter 10, when the angel comes down and he opens the book, we can conclude that that took place in 1798.

And at that time, I'm skipping a few things, at that time the angel lifts his hand up to heaven, swears by him who lives forever and ever, the very same picture we see in Daniel chapter 12, and he says, there should be time no longer.

You can all nod your head real confidently, yes.

So it can't be literal time, that is no more.

Well, the fact that we're still alive and Christ hasn't come means that probation has not expired.

Okay, let's go back to Daniel chapter 12.

Revelation 10: The Second Advent Movement

Father, we are thankful for another opportunity to study your Word.

As we look at Revelation chapter 10, this most important chapter in the book of Revelation, may it Stimulate us to further commitment to you and may we strive to be faithful in these last days So we will be ready for your return.

Amen Just a little note for the audio verse listeners who are listening to this recording This is a do-over recording for Revelation chapter 10, because we lost the initial recording.

So for those of you who listened to this, you should feel very grateful, because we don't have to do this, but because we love you guys so much, we're doing it for you guys.

If they were here, they would say thank you, but they're not, so we're gonna keep going.

Seems like we have been drilling in this chapter all day, but it is a good chapter, 1 of my favorites in the whole Bible.

But I guess I have a lot of favorites, so that's not saying too much.

Revelation chapter 10, let's look at Verse 1.

Let's have a volunteer to read from verse 1 to verse 3.

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, and a rainbow was upon his head.

And his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.

And he had in his hand a little book open.

And he set his right foot upon the sea and his left foot on the earth and cried with a loud voice as when a lion roareth.

This chapter opens with a mighty angel that comes down from heaven.

But I guess I need to get my bearings straight before I get too far ahead of myself.

Chapter 10 of Revelation comes immediately after the sixth trumpet of Revelation chapter 9.

And the sixth trumpet, we discussed a little bit today this afternoon.

Also, Norman taught the class on Revelation 9 up in the balcony.

And chapter 10 comes right in the wake of the fifth and sixth trumpet being fulfilled.

And so that is the approximate time where we're looking at.

Of course, we can't use that as a rule because in the book of Revelation, remember, not everything comes in chronological order.

So we need to identify specifically what time this takes place.

But before we identify that time, we see the messenger who comes down from heaven.

The mighty angel comes down with very vivid descriptions of what he looks like.

And to use an illustration, if I'm standing up here, and I have a message to give, and I'm wearing a white lab coat with a stethoscope around my neck, what type of message would you expect me to give?

If I'm up here and I am dressed in a fireman outfit with a big hat, you know, the big trousers, what expect, What kind of message would you expect me to give then?

So, this angel, the way that he is dressed, tells us something about the type of message he's going to give.

And we actually see this very clearly previously in the book of Revelation with the 7 churches.

You remember that Jesus was described a specific way for each church because his appearance had to do with the message he's given for that specific need of that church.

And so here in Revelation 10, Almighty Angel comes down, he's dressed a certain way.

Says he is clothed with a cloud, number 1.

His face was as it were the sun, his feet as pillars of fire, and verse 3 we see that his voice is like a lion's voice.

Actually, it's actually easier to look at chapter 1.

Okay, we have a volunteer in the front corner.

Verse 7, Behold, he cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him.

And they also which pierced him, and all kindreds of the earth, shall wail because of him, even so.

Okay, let's look at Revelation chapter 14 now, verses 14 through 16.

And upon the cloud 1 sat like unto the Son of Man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle and reap, for the time has come for thee to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

Alright, so far we see that the cloud in Revelation is associated with a certain individual and with a certain event.

Let's look at Revelation chapter 4 verse 3 now.

And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone, and there was a rainbow round about the throne in sight like unto an emerald.

So a rainbow is surrounding the throne of God.

All right, let's look in Revelation chapter 1 and verse 16.

And he had in his right hand 7 stars and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." Okay, Jesus, his countenance shown as the sun.

And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace, and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Okay, so his feet are like as though they were burning in a furnace.

Okay, Revelation 5, verse 5, another volunteer.

And 1 of the elders saith unto me, Weep not, behold the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David hath prevailed to open the book and to loose the 7 seals thereof.

So Jesus here, he is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

All of the description of this angel in Revelation chapter 10 verse 1, in the book of Revelation, we notice we did not jump out of the book of Revelation at all.

Jesus comes with a cloud at the second coming.

His face shone, his countenance shone like the sun.

There's a rainbow around the throne of God.

His feet are like pillars of fire in Revelation chapter 10, but in Revelation chapter 1, it's as though they were burning in a furnace.

It's also the line of the tribe of Judah.

Okay, if you still doubt my, or not mine, but what we have seen in revelation bible commentary volume 7 page 971 the mighty angel who instructed john was no less a personage than jesus christ Setting his right foot on the sea and his left upon the dry land shows the part he which he was acting in the closing scenes of the great controversy with Satan Pretty clear, right?

Jesus Christ is that mighty angel But what are the messages that this angel comes with, or what is the messages that his clothing depicts.

The Book With Seven Seals

I just want to remind you of some basic ground rules for this class.

We are recording this class, so all your comments and if you're going to volunteer to read a Bible text, please pick up the mic, raise your hand, it'll come to you and please speak up into the mic.

The mic is only for recording purposes, It's not for amplification.

So you're still gonna have to speak up loud for everyone to hear.

And also another note, there will be no class, no Revelation class next week.

Both of the teachers, myself as well as Norman, will be out of town for graduations in other states.

But the week after that, Norman will be picking up with the 7 Seals.

So today we're being a little bit ambitious.

We need to wrap up a few loose ends, just 3 points or so from Revelation class last week and then we are going to try to hit the high points in both Revelation chapter 4 and 5.

So we're going to try to accomplish all of those things today.

Let's bow our heads for prayer and we'll get started.

Father in heaven, this morning we are thankful for the opportunity to study your Word.

As we continue to seek a better understanding of this book, which is a revelation of your Son, Jesus Christ, May we be able to understand His character more fully, so that we may be more like Him.

Be with us as we study now, we pray in Jesus' name.

So let's turn to Revelation chapter 3 and we'll tie up a few loose ends.

Revelation chapter 3, we're still talking about Laodicea.

And I want to particularly deal with the end of the message to Laodicea.

In verse 19 it says, As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.

He says, look, I'm giving you guys some strong counsel.

Let's have a volunteer read that 1 for us.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time but painful.

Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." Okay, so being chastened by Christ now may not be comfortable, but there's a purpose to it.

According to Hebrews 12, it says, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness.

So Christ's chastening leads to righteousness.

And in verse 20, back in Revelation 3, verse 20, this is the greatest need.

All of the other things that we talked about, the white raiment, the eyesalve, the gold trod in the fire, All of those things really come naturally when you receive what Christ is offering in verse 20.

Verse 20, it says, Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and I will sup with him, and he with me." A lot could be said about that 1 verse.

I encourage you to go study some of the parables of Christ.

Christ's parables, he has certain parables that talk about eating together, suppers, about being a servant, and about knocking at the door.

He has several parables all dealing with those things, and they're all related to this text.

But just the 1 thing I want to mention here is that what Christ above all desires for us is to allow Him to come in.

And we mentioned last week that 1 of the key messages to the Church of Colossae, which is also to be read in the Church of Laodicea, is the idea of the mystery of God.

And the mystery of God is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

So, Revelation 3, verse 20, the whole gist, or the main point of this text, is Christ wants to come in.

And Christ in you, the hope of glory, is the mystery of God.

And in Revelation chapter 10, the mystery of God will be finished when the 7 angels begin to sound.

So Revelation chapter 3, the church of Laodicea is chock full of relationships with end of time messages.

And the bottom line with the church of Laodicea is They need to live the life of righteousness by faith.

Righteousness by faith is the message to Laodicea.

And it also happens to be the message that will bring Jesus back.

So, very important stuff in the Church of Laodicea.

Okay to wrap it up there's 1 point that will connect us directly to chapter 4.

It says, verse 21 the promise to him that overcomes.

It says, to him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne even as I also overcame and I've sat down with my father in his throne he that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit sayeth to the churches so the promise to the overcomers to the Laodicea is that they will be able to sit in God's throne.

Revelation 20, you can look it up later, Revelation 20 verse 4, it simply means they will be given the opportunity to judge.

So Revelation 20 verse 4 is a good cross-reference for this verse.

And also, it's the fact that this is Laodicea.

This is the people being judged themselves.

And they're saying, look, when you pass through the judgment, you too will be given the opportunity to help in making certain decisions, making judgment.

Alright, so that takes us right into chapter 4.

Chapter 4 begins with a transition phrase.

Transition phrase that's at the end of verse 1.

So let's have someone read verse 1 for us.

After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this." Okay.

This verse is very important to identify what time period we're looking at now.

Now prior to this verse in chapters 1, 2, and 3, where was John physically located?

On the island of Patmos, which is on the earth.

Christ was walking in the midst of 7 golden candlesticks, which represent what?

But now in chapter 4 it says, come up hither and there was a door open, right?

And it says, I will show you what will be hereafter.

Which means, you have to, again, Revelation is a visual book.

So he's on the ground and then he gets transported up to heaven and he's standing at an open door.

And the door is open and Christ says, I will show you what will take place here after, meaning from this open door onward.

What's the only building that we are told about that exists in heaven in the book of Revelation.

There's a holy place and a most holy place.
