The Sealing Time

Isn't it a privilege to be gathered together on the seventh day?

And today is a special day and we want to speak about a special subject, The seal of God.

And speak about the seal of God on the Sabbath day has a special meaning, doesn't it?

As we think about the Bible text we read in Revelation 7, 1 through 3, There are several things that stand out to me as I read the Word.

It amazes me to see that God wants to place His seal on us.

He wants to place His seal on our foreheads.

And it also is so amazing to see that He is instructing the angels to hold back the winds, to hold back the winds of strife until we are prepared to receive that seal.

He is so merciful that He is holding back these winds of strife because He wants you, because He wants me to receive that seal.

In scripture, what does the seal represent?

I want to suggest that the seal or the mark or the sign, which are different words that scripture uses, is actually a recognition.

This is 1 way to express it, a recognition that God's work has been completed.

Well, let's take a look at that and I just don't take my word.

And let's turn to Exodus chapter 31, Verses 13 through 17, Exodus 31.

In Exodus 31, we find reference to the word sign for the first time.

Of course, we have other instances where similar words, synonyms are used, but in Exodus 31, we find it within a very special context.

Verse 12, and the Lord spake unto Moses saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep.

For it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you." Now just make a mental note there of the emphasis.

It's saying that it is a special sign between you and me, which implies that there is an agreement, that there is a covenant.

And this sign is a symbol of that covenant.

The sign is a token of God's power to sanctify us.

Let's turn to verse 17 of Exodus chapter 31.

It continues speaking about the Sabbath and the special work.

It reiterates the commandment of the Sabbath day pretty much verbatim.

Verse 16, wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations for a perpetual covenant.

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever.

And then he gives another tremendous, powerful reason, for in 6 days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.

So another very clear emphasis that is connected with this special sign is the fact that God is the Creator.

So we see his creative power, and we see his sanctifying power as being represented in that seal, in that special sign.

Let's go back to Genesis chapter 2 and see where God makes reference to the Sabbath and to creation for the first time.

Genesis chapter 2, and we will read the first 3 verses.

First 1 of Genesis chapter 2 starts out by saying, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished.

Another word for finished is were completed.

God's creative work was complete, was done, was fulfilled, was finished, and all the host of them.

And on the seventh day, God ended his work, which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work, which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made." And verse 31 from the previous chapter gives us the introduction, because it says that God saw everything that He had what?

So the Sabbath day is representing God's work, which is very good, which was completed on the seventh day.

It is that creative power, which is also His sanctifying power in our lives.

So if we look at the context of the Sabbath day and the sign of God and His seal, we see that it is a symbol, it is a memorial of His creative power.

It is also a sign, an emblem of His sanctifying power, which can sanctify us completely.

And it is also a sign of His perpetual covenant of His law and character.

All these 3 things which are so encompassing are encapsulated in the seal of God.

He wants you and me to represent His power here on earth.

Hebrews 11, verse 3, speaking about God's creative power, we read, "'The worlds were made by the Word of God.

It's implying all the universe was made by the Word of God.

John chapter 1 begins by saying, John chapter 1 verse 1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God, and all things were made by him.

Without him was not anything made that was made.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men." Powerful, isn't it?

I just really enjoy, love the way that John, the revelator, introduces Jesus Christ.

Then turn down to verse 12 of John, the same chapter.

But as many as received Him, who received whom?

Who is represented in this chapter as the Word.

As many as received Him, to them gave He power.

To those who received the word, power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name, which were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, And we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

And God wants us to reflect that glory because if He has given us the power to become His sons and daughters, it's so that we can also reflect the glory of Him as our Father.

Because if the Word is made flesh in each 1 of us, it will produce a good work.

It will do what He has purposed that it should do in our lives.

He is holding back the winds because He wants to do this work in you and me so that He can place His seal upon us.

And the Sabbath day is a memorial of all that power.

Today, the Sabbath day, In a special way we should experience victory over sin.

In a special way we should experience liberty from the dominion of the kingdom of evil.
