How to Find Your Life-calling

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for gathering all of us here today.

I pray that you may help us to understand our own life calling better as a result of today.

Yeah, do you have many doors in your life?

Many possible ways to walk and you can see 1 of them is yellow here.

But I just started to share a little bit of my own experience first, and I can start again since some of you just came in.

I used to work at Týrfjord, it's the Adventist high school in Norway.

I worked there as a teacher with geology, physics and mathematics, and it was a very nice job.

But when I look back at the time I was there, then even though I was, there were many things also outside the school work as a teacher.

There were some of my students and I did things with them outside.

Also, ASI came for a visit actually that year to Thulefjord.

So even though I kind of had a normal job, I was doing things with the students also outside the work and also engaged in mission work.

If you were to ask me, Renee, What is your life calling?

It would be a little bit difficult to answer.

I could say what I worked with, but having a job or a work is not the same as a life calling.

It's some kind of understanding of why has God placed me here?

What line of ministry has he equipped me to do?

So that was 2013 And now it's 2018 and this picture is taken now and now I am able to answer that question.

I don't think it's a black and white thing, it's something that develops over time.

But something has happened with in the course of those 5 years that I went from I don't really know to I think I know.

So we will look a little bit on that today because all of you, you know, I guess would like to know what is your life calling, you know, what is God's purpose with you.

So yeah, so maybe we will get closer to which door is the right 1 if you want to look at it like that.

Okay, so we would like to start, there is 3 parts of this workshop.

The first part is we will study the Bible together and find the 3 concepts or 3 truths which we can call the ABC of understanding our life calling.

3 things that is good to just have in place before we even ask the question, what is my specific life calling?

It's good to have those 3 things in place.

The second part, I have asked 2 people that are sitting out there.

They will come in and they will share their story of how they also, just like me, went from not knowing their life calling to it being much more tangible and now they can put words to it and how the journey was.

It can help to hear how that journey has been for us.

And in the end, I also have some tasks here.

And the hope is that we can try to get together to improve, 2 persons that maybe know each other and that we do some tasks and actually get closer to what is your life calling that you lead here.

Not just the theory and the stories from others, but that actually something happened with your specific life goal.

We will start quite on common ground in Matthew chapter 28.

We are going to look at the goal of our life call.

Might not be so surprising but I think we should read it anyway.

That's where we find the Great Commission.

So here we find Jesus and who was coming with Jesus?

Okay now on this mountain Jesus tells something to the disciples.

Okay, so who again was it that he was talking to?

Would you see yourself as a part of the result of this?

That you are sitting here today is a part of that the gospel went out and you are also made into a disciple.

Would it be a fair statement to maybe say that?

So Jesus talking or giving this great commission to his disciples it actually means also you and me.

So even though it's quite an obvious point, then the goal of your life poem, or the aim, whatever it's focused on should be this to win souls for Christ.

So we can read a quote from Ellen White here it's from Testimonies Volume 4 page 53 To save souls should be the life work of everyone who professes Christ.

It's maybe not so easy for everyone to see it but I hope you can at least hear it.

Here's another 1, messages to young people.

The business above all others, you know we're talking about businesses this week, which should draw and engage the energies of the soul is the work of what?

Make this the main, the important work of your life.

What you will notice if you read Ellen White, she doesn't use so much the term life calling.

So whenever we have the Ellen White quotes, you will see that life work.

But in this day and age, we use more maybe calling, but it's kind of a little bit the same.

Cooperate with Christ in this grand and noble work and become home and foreign missionaries.

Did you know that there are 2 types of missionaries?

But some are at home and some are foreign.

Be ready and efficient to work at home or in far off climes.

I guess that's a short form of clients or something for the saving of souls yeah so it doesn't mean that everyone is called to go to Africa some are some are not but it doesn't matter because what is the goal no matter what life work you have, it is to?

Yeah, I'll call someone there, or someone another place, but the very first thing is, or yeah, that's, it should be about saving souls.

So I wanted to ask you this question, and it's something you should just answer to yourself in your heart.

Is disciple making the primary goal of my life work?

So some of you maybe start to know a little bit what is my calling, what is my life work.

Some might not know, but do I want it to be solely focused on saving souls?

It's a question that you have to answer to yourself So Okay, and that was the first 1 and that was the A so we will summarize the 3 afterwards and write them there so you can we will come back to them.

Okay now I want to give you some confidence in the calling that God will reveal for each 1 of you or have revealed already.

And we are going to see that through a passage in the Bible.
