This morning I wanted to share a lot about what the devil is doing.

What the devil is doing and trying to do in your life and my life.

I had some interesting statistics I wanted to share with you actually.

In 1800 there was 1 billion people on planet earth.

And we're rapidly heading towards 7 billion people.

Now, about 100 years ago, in 1909, 14% of the homes had a bathtub.

Tim's standing up here, you know, you can hear the interference from his iPhone going over the speaker.

You know, from something that has no wires, no anything else, but at that time 8% of the homes had a telephone.

There were only 8, 000 cars in the United States.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

90% of doctors, Tim, had no college education.

In the United States, we're now using 7 times more water than we did in 1900.

Paper consumption from 1940 to 1980 tripled, and it tripled again in the next 10 years.

There are 1, 005 typeface fonts available in just 1 store.

In 1948, the physician's desk reference had 300 pages.

For those of you who like basketball, that was 100 years ago.

In 1975 there were 3, 000 NGOs in the country.

In 1978 grocery stores had 11, 000 products.

There are 550 kinds of coffee, 250 different kinds of toothpaste, 175 kinds of salad dressing.

There are 2, 500 different light bulbs, and many of those are in the same store.

3, 000 new book titles and new editions are published every single month.

There are 329 million TV sets in the United States.

That's almost 1 for every man, woman and child in the country.

And China, get this, China will soon become the number 1 English speaking country in the world.

In 1960, the average CEO traveled 12, 000 miles.

There are 87, 000 air flights that crisscross the United States every single day.

The iPhone has 100 times more computer power than the entire Apollo program did.

For those of you who are old enough to remember the Apollo program, 100 times more powerful.

183 billion emails are sent every single day.

Spam is causing $20 billion in lost productivity and bandwidth every year.

Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, you know there's 120 million users online every day and there's been a 513 percent increase just in the last year on age 55 and up users.

That's why all you young people don't want to get on anymore.

You know, Skype, blogging, webinars, YouTube, the list just goes on and on and on.

There's 31 billion Google searches occur every month.

1 of every 8 couples who are getting married today found their sweetheart online from an online dating service.

There's 2000000000000 text messages sent every single day.

It's going faster than the government spends money.

There's 540, 000 words in the English language.

That's 5 times more than there was in Shakespeare's day.

How many of you know about nanotechnology?

If I pull 1 hair, I'm not going to, because I don't have enough to spare.

Nanotechnology is 100, 000 times smaller than a single hair.

The former Labor Secretary said that the top 10 jobs in demand in 2010 were not even in existence in 2004.

We're preparing students today, students, we're preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist, using technologies that haven't been invented in order to solve problems that we don't even know are problems yet.

1 week's worth of the New York Times is, why, it's so much more knowledge than they had in the 18th century, more knowledge than they would have gathered in their entire lifetime.

4 exabytes of information, that's 4 times 10 to the 19th power of information will be produced this year.

That's more than all of the past 5, 000 years of Earth's history.

The amount of technology is doubling every 2 years on planet Earth, every 2 years.

This is not linear growth, it's exponential growth.

We've become so accustomed to this state of affairs, we seldom even think about it.

It doesn't occur for us to even ask, where does this more come from?

We live in the time of normalization of more.

It's become so normal in the last 10 years that for anything else, it would be considered abnormal.

Ray Kurzweil, he invented the flatbed scanner and speech recognition software and many other things.

Listen to what he says, quote, There's even exponential growth in the rate of exponential growth.

Within a few decades, Machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to the singularity.

Technological change so rapid and so profound, it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history.

The scientist John von Neumann was quoted as saying that, "...the ever-accelerating progress of technology gives the appearance of approaching some singularity in history of the human race beyond which human affairs as we know them could not continue." And you know, with technology comes new crimes.

Bernie Madoff, Enron, internet's charge card theft, child trafficking, pornography.

You realize 1 of every 7 children using the internet today has been propositioned on the internet.

Pornography is the most searched for topic on the internet today.
