Through the Veil, That is His Flesh

Let's again just bow our heads and ask the Lord to be with us.

Father in heaven, thank you today for this time of year where we are reminded of your birth and your life and what you're doing now, ever living to make intercession for us, and the hope of your soon return.

Bless us as we study about you today, in Christ's name, amen.

A new and living way, Hebrews chapter 10.

I invite you to open in your Bibles to Hebrews chapter 10 because we're going to look at the whole chapter today.

And we're going to see, hopefully, some exciting things, especially at this time of year.

The book of Hebrews was written maybe 20, 30 years before the fall of Jerusalem, and it was written to Hebrews.

And the Hebrews, of course, were, You know, somewhat worried about what was happening in terms of their newfound faith.

These are Christians, Hebrew Christians, and they've been tempted to give up on Jesus.

They've been tempted to go back to the sacrificial system.

Have you ever been tempted to give up on Jesus?

Anyone here ever been tempted to give up on Jesus?

And in chapter 10, Paul gives several reasons why we should not give up on Jesus.

And we'll look first of all in verse 1 through 4.

For the law, having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who appear approach perfect.

For then will they not have ceased to be offered?

For the worshippers once purified would have no more consciousness of sins.

But in those sacrifices, there is reminder of sins every year, for it is not possible the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Reason number 1, what would you say reason number 1 is?

If you go back to all the sacrifices, they don't work.

I mean that's a good reason not to give up on Jesus.

They do not work and by the way they weren't effective, that effective and maybe as a type but not that effective.

He's better than the entire Old Testament sacrificial system, which did not take away sin, but only pointed to the 1 who could take away sin.

We studied some of this last night in our message, A Body Thou Hast Prepared, which I'd encourage you to watch that if you didn't listen last night.

Therefore, when he came into the world, he said, sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you have prepared for me.

In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure.

Then I said behold I come in the volume of the book it is written of me to do your will.

Previously saying sacrifice and offering burnt offerings and offerings for sin you did not desire nor had pleasure in them which were offered according to the law.

Then he said, Behold I have come to do your will, O God.

He takes away the first that he may establish the second.

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Don't give up on Jesus because what's it saying?

He has fulfilled all the Old Testament sacrifices by being a complete composite sacrifice covering all the sacrifices in 1.

He has become the ultimate sacrifice done away with sin.

Verse 5, he became a human, a body you have prepared for me.

That's what we're talking about this time of year.

Not only that, He fulfilled the will of God verse 6 through 9, and that will of God was all the sacrifices in the Old Testament.

It was Everything in the sanctuary service, including the keeping of the law of God.

In all points, he was tempted like as you are, yet without sin, so he could be a perfect sacrifice on your behalf.

Don't give up on Jesus, he's your only hope, the author was saying to the people, the Hebrews.

Not only that, because He was perfect, verse 10, He could die for us, justice could be served, and mercy could be extended, verse 10.

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ.

Verse 19 makes it clear that it's the body and blood of Jesus Christ that's our only hope.

Don't give up on Jesus, don't go back, go forward with Jesus.

Every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

But this man, after he had offered 1 sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till his enemies are made his footstool.

For by that 1 offering, he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after he had said before, This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord.

I will put my law in their hearts and in their minds, I will write them.

Then he adds, their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more.

Where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.

Don't give up on Jesus by becoming human with the incarnation.

By fulfilling the will of God, He could pay for your sins.

I like Steps to Christ, how it puts it, page 62.

If you give yourself to Him and accept Him as your Savior, then sinful as your life may have been, for His sake you are accounted righteous.

Christ's character stands in place of your character and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned.

But also we just learned in these verses we read that not only God the Father who gave his Son and was in Christ reconciling the world, not only through Jesus but through the Holy Spirit, He gives us a great gift.

The Holy Spirit also witnesses to us for after He had said before.

This is after Jesus has lived, He's died, And the Holy Spirit is saying, look, I still have something I want you to do, something I did in Christ's life that I want to do in your life.

This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord.

I will put my law in their hearts and in their minds I will write them.

Don't most churches teach that the law was done away with?

This is the Holy Spirit speaking after Christ had been born, after He lived, after He died.

He says I want to do the same thing in your life that I did in His life.

I want to write my law in your heart and in your mind.
