The Glory of Biblical Submission

The sermon today, Bullets Made of Raisins.

I combined today's message with a message from last year, the Women's Conference, and that is what we're going to be discussing this morning.

And I also want to share with you the same advice that I gave last night.

I encourage you to take notes and also to write questions down because tomorrow we're going to have a Q&A.

And the things are hard, they're hard for me, and the same thing I said last night, this sermon is not for you first, it is for me first, and I'm sharing with you what the Lord is teaching me.

And I want to also remind you when we open God's Word it is a sword.

When you go in for surgery and the doctor brings out a scalpel.

It does not feel good, but it is for our good.

So the Lord is able to cut, but he's also able to heal.

And so if there is anything that you hear today that you have any presuppositions about, and it doesn't feel good, it doesn't sound good, first, let's pray about it.

The second thing, listen through to the end and see if there's an area where the Lord might be challenging you on.

And if you feel this is a topic that's not for me, maybe there's going to be someone else in your life that the Lord can use to share this message with.

Let's pray, and then we will begin the feast.

Dear Lord, we stand before your throne, and we know that 1 day we're going to behold you and your parents will be like Jasper and Sapphire and Sardius, and we'll behold that rainbow shining as emerald and we want to be there and right now we approach your throne and we are ready to hear from you And we just pray that your spirit would manifest himself and would teach us, would touch my lips with that burning coal, would break up the fallow ground of our hearts, that we can receive what you have for us.

May we leave here transformed through faith and praise.

And it wasn't long after we started to have our conflicts.

And I'm going to tell you about 1 of those conflicts that we had.

So 1 of the conflicts that we had had to do with rice.

So I am from the Bahamas, my parents are from Haiti.

I studied in Jamaica And I've gone visited countries in Africa before.

Now we start a real conflict in the church.

So for those who don't know, my husband is from South Korea.

So with a lot of Asian cooking, the rice is very different from the Caribbean rice and the African rice.

So I'm cooking my rice and no 1 day he was cooking the rice first of all I had to learn to use a rice cooker so that's the first thing fine I can get used to that the second thing is he's cooking his rice and he doesn't put salt.

And on top of that, the rice, there are different kinds of rice in Asian cooking but there's a particular rice where the rice needs to be sticky right and I don't know about your household but in a Haitian household you do not serve sticky rice.

So first of all I need to get to you I need to get used to cooking in a rice cooker.

Now I need to cook rice without salt and I need to learn to cook sticky rice.

But it was the salt in particular that was the problem.

It wasn't like a serious conflict in which we're actually fighting, but it was still a conflict.

He doesn't want salt, I want salt, and I want lots of salt.

So this is how we decided to solve the problem.

If there's no salt in the house, there's no salt to fight over.

The first thing that I had to do was to understand why don't you cook with salt?

And what I realized with Korean cooking is that they have a lot of side dishes called banchan.

And you could be at a table and there might be 10 different side dishes, and all of those side dishes have different tastes and flavor.

So when you mix it with the rice, you have, you're getting all of these different tastes.

So if you put salt in the rice, it sort of messes up with the flavor.

When it comes to Caribbean cooking with our rice or African cooking with the rice, you need salt to bring the flavors together because you could season that rice all you want, but sis, if there's no salt, it's not working.

You can have salt, and if you use it too much, it's bad.

If you don't have any of it, when it's needed, it's bad.

And when it comes to relationships, when it comes to marriage, there's something, and we're going to talk about it.

And if you have too much of it, you can't eat it.

And the salt that we're going to be talking about today is submission.

See, we already have this conflict going on already.

I know that this particular word, the same way that I with the sermon last night, I've struggled with it because usually when I hear it being preached in the church, it does, how do I say it, I've walked away from it not feeling very good about it.

And so the Lord is still working and teaching me about this whole thing about submission.

This message is not just for the women here.

Whether you are married or whether you are not married as a man, I have a nice piece of this sandwich for you as well.

We're going to start with 1 Peter 3, verses 1-6.

This passage is 1 of the least favorite passages of a lot of us as women.

So, I'm not going to go too much into it because we covered it last year, but for those who weren't there, 1 Peter chapter 3.

Wives like wise be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they without a word may be won by the conduct of their wives, when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear.
