SWYC 2012: As In the Days Of ...

In the Days of Noah

You know you have a plan what you want to do?

You see that plan, the plan is coming in your hand right now.

I am not responsible for what's gonna happen next.

I want you to be prayerful, because I don't know you.

But there is a God in heaven who is seeking to prepare people to see him.

And I tell you what, friends, meetings like this won't go on forever.

Meetings like this will not be available to us forever and as we have this opportunity to press together, as we have this opportunity to hear the Word of God, I say to you friends, let's not waste 1 moment.

If you don't mind, can I get 1 of those handouts?

Before we begin, I'm just going to petition the throne of God once more, because I need a lot of help.

Dear Father in heaven, Your word declares where 2 or 3 are gathered together that you would be in the midst of us.

And Father, The question is do we really believe that?

For there are more than 2 or 3 gathered here, Lord.

Your word declares if any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God to give it to all men liberally and upbraid of not, and it will be given.

Your word declares if we confess our sins, that you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Give us thoughts and feelings that reflect that of heaven.

And we claim the merits of his holy and most precious blood, amen.

This morning we're going to be dealing with the subject matter as it was in the days of Noah.

But before we go there, I want you to go to Ecclesiastes 1 in verse 9, and I'm going to share with you a scripture song.

It's a scripture song that was taught to me by a new believer.

We were doing Bible studies together and I told him to go home and memorize this passage.

This song should be in the hearts of all God's people.

It says, the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be, and that which is done, is that which shall be done, And there is no new thing under the sun.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be.

The thing that have been, it is that which shall be.

And that which is done, is that which shall be done.

So the thing that hath been, is that which shall be.

That which is past is that which is going to take place in the future.

And that which is done, is that past, present, or future?

That which is done is that which already have been done, and God requires that which is what?

Ecclesiastes 3 verse 15, notice here what the Bible says.

Ecclesiastes 3 and verse 15, the Bible says, that which have been is now, and that which is to be hath already been, and God requires what?

Now go with me now to the book of Revelation.

And we're going to look at verse number 8.

Revelation, the first chapter, we're beginning at verse number 8.

And notice here again what the Bible says.

The Bible says, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the what?

And say of the Lord, which is, which is, is that past, present, or future?

And which was, is that past, present, or future?

And which is to come, is that past, present, or future?

So let me explain something to you right off the bat.

When we're talking about what's happening in the past, we're really looking at the hand of God in the plan of salvation.

When we look at Noah and we're looking at what God does in the life of Noah and those that are going to get on board, we're really looking at what God plans to do in these last days.

If you don't believe me, I think you'll believe Jesus.

Jesus used this very principle in Luke 17, beginning at verse 26, and notice here what the Bible says, and you see it right there on the screen, you have your Bibles open.

The Bible says, and as it was in the days of, who?

Noah, so that which is past, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

You see, Jesus used the very principle that I just shared with you.

Jesus says, as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the son of man.

So what we're going to do, we're going to examine the days of Noah.

We're going to look carefully at the days of Noah and we're going to find a solution to the home problem.

I'm going with me now to Genesis, Genesis the sixth chapter.

We're going to begin reading at verse number 1.

The Bible says, And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God, " the sons of who?

The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives, all of which they chose.

The sons of men saw the daughters of God.

Genesis chapter 5, Then jump into Genesis chapter 4 and look at verse 19.

In the Days of Lot

All right, we're going to go ahead and get started.

There's much to study and little time to do it.

And making practical application in the time that we have is going to be a challenge.

So before we begin, let's just have a word of prayer and ask God for wisdom beyond our years, for we are not wise enough to understand the deep things of God.

Dear Father in heaven, Lord, we thank you for the privilege that we have to be called your children, to be able to come into your presence, Lord, and to Be able to hear your voice instruct our hearts and our minds towards those things which are pure and holy and under found Father your word declares with 2 or 3 a gathered you would be in the midst of us And Lord, we really don't know how to honor your presence as we should But in these few moments father give us wisdom beyond our years Teach us Lord how to hear your voice impressed still nearer to you.

But again, we beg of you to teach us to love you more than anything else in this world.

And we pray this in the name of Jesus and claim the merits of his blood, amen.

All right, we're gonna begin our subject.

We're dealing with as it was in the days of Lot.

And before we delve deeply into it, hopefully you've memorized the song that we sang this morning, amen?

It goes, the thing that hath been, It is that which shall be.

And that which is done is that which shall be done.

The thing that have been, It is that which shall be.

You did pretty good in regards to that which is, which shall be, so forth and so on.

That which is, tell me, is that past, present, or future?

That which shall be done, is that past, present, or future?

The thing that hath been, is that past, present, or future?

So what we're doing then, when we're looking at history and we're looking at the the people of God in the earlier times, we're really looking at what God is going to do in this time.

When we're looking at the history of the people of Israel or we're looking at Noah or we're looking at Lot or we're looking at Abraham, anytime you're looking at any of these biblical characters, you're really looking at how God is going to deal with us in these final hours.

If you can get this principle, your Bible study life will go to a whole nother level.

The way you look at scripture will just unlock, and story after story will build upon another that it will just become so crystal clear in your mind.

If you ever get to hang around me long enough, you'll know that the Bible is my most favorite book in all the world.

Niesha, what is the greatest book in all the world?

See what she tells you what the greatest book in all the world is.

She'll tell you what the greatest book in all the world is.

But as we're studying tonight, we're talking about as it was in the days of Lot, as it was in the days of Lot.

And let's pick up our story in Luke Chapter 17.

We're in Luke Chapter 17, Luke Chapter 17.

And again, we're going to note here a very important person who is speaking.

Luke chapter 17 and beginning at verse number 29.

Luke 17 and verse 29, I actually put it on the screen for us so we can read it together.

Luke 17 and verse 29, or 28, let's start in 28.

It says, likewise, as it was in the days of lot, they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they what?

Remember this morning we read about Noah.

It says, as it was in the days of Noah, they married and gave in marriage.

But in this part, when it's talking about lot, it does not mention marriage.

Whenever you're studying the Bible and you pay attention to the nuances, this 1 does not mention marriage.

What it does mention is that they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted and they build it.

Now this is important, this is significant because we're talking about as it was in the days of Lot this morning or this afternoon.

And it says, verse 29, but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

Now, keep this in mind as we're going to now go back in history and examine the days of Lot.

We're going to see here in Genesis 13 some events that led to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Genesis the 13th chapter and we're going to begin at verse number 6.

The Bible says, and Lot also went out with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

And the land was not able to bear them that they might dwell how?

So there's a situation that's developed here that they are so rich that they have so much goods they have so much temporal goods that they can't dwell together that's problematic are you paying attention to me right now they have so much goods they have so much well that they cannot dwell together in unity.

Verse 17 says, and there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle, and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled in the land.

And Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are what?

So who should have gone to who to say, hey, you know, we're having problems.

Who should have gone to, who should have been the 1 that dealt with this issue first?

Lot should have went to Abraham, hey, Abraham, see, You gave me everything I have.

In the Days of Moses

Dear Father in Heaven, Lord, we're thankful for your mercy.

We're told that your mercies are new every morning.

You're the 1 that put the breath in our nostrils this morning.

The very ability now to speak to you comes because you love us so much.

And I ask, Father, that you do something special for us this morning.

I ask that you draw so near to us that the things of this world grow strangely dim.

Father, we need you like we've never needed you before.

And we pray this in the name of Jesus and we claim the merits of his most holy and precious blood.

We can begin in the book of Ecclesiastes.

Everyone knows this by now, is that right?

Ecclesiastes 1, in verse 9, and we're gonna sing it together, is that okay?

Again, the purpose of singing it is not because I can sing, The purpose of singing is so that we can remember the passages.

The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 1.9, The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be.

♪ Now we sing that and we've been going over session after session what it means to look at the history of what has happened in the past and see how that transfers into our present, yea, into our future.

We first began talking about as it was in the days of Noah.

He attacked the union of 2 people that should not be together.

And in attacking that home, progressively, it began to spread sin throughout all the land until there was no remedy except the flood.

In fact there was nowhere left on planet earth that you could find righteousness but in 1 family.

Not a bunch of families, not a whole church, just 1 family, 1 family that said that they would be faithful to God.

In our second session, we talked about as it was in the days of Lot.

And we looked at Lot, his choice of wife and his choice of location.

He chose not to live in the plains or in the country setting where Abraham lived.

He chose to live in the wicked city of Sodom and Gomorrah.

And choosing to live in a place where he could not but see and hear the evils it affected his children to the extent that not 1 of his family, listen to me, not 1 of his family came away from that city untainted.

His 2 daughters drunkened him and had incestual relationship with him, all because he chose to separate from Abraham, separate from the principles that Abraham had instilled in his home, and imbibe the teachings of that wicked city.

Now, the Bible does say that Lot hated, it vexed his soul to be in that city, but it's 1 thing to be vexed.

Is 1 thing to be vexed, but it's another thing to protect your children from seeing and feeling things that will destroy their spiritual walk with Jesus.

Brothers and sisters, we are living so close to the end of time, we have no time to play around when God says, escape for your life, what should you do?

You should not be bargaining with Jesus, bargaining with God, Oh, it's just a little city.

Today we're talking about as it was in the days of Moses.

Now as I got up this morning and I began to think about what to say, the reality started to change in what I wanted to say.

And so we're going to go, we're going to try to study the Bible in a very simple way.

Here's the 1 thought I want you to leave with.

That's the 1 thought I want you to leave with when you leave the tent this morning, that Jesus is your brother.

And I want you to begin to understand what it means.

As it was in the days of Moses, you see this beautiful picture here, you know that picture, that picture there is the sanctuary, is that right?

It's a beautiful symbol, it's a plan of salvation.

There are so many aspects to it that I wish I could unfold to you right now this morning, but I'm only going to unfold 1 this morning, as it was in the days of Moses.

I want us to go to Psalms, the 27th chapter.

The Bible says, 1 thing have I desired of the Lord, and that will I seek after, that I may dwell where?

That's the only desire that is in his mind.

The 1 thing that he desires is to be in the house.

And it's not simply be in the house, it's to dwell in the house.

The 1 thing David desires is to live in God's house.

1 thing I have a desire to the Lord, and that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life." What does he want to do while he's in there?

To behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire where?

So the 1 thing he desires, the 1 passion he has, the 1 thing that consumes him is to be in God's house, to behold the beauty of the Lord.

Now watch this and look at verse number 11.

Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a what?

So in this context, he's saying, I want to dwell in the house, I want to dwell there forever, I know that there's trouble in the land, I know that I have enemies, but Lord, please teach me your paths.

In fact, go to Psalms 73rd division, Psalm 73, I wonder what he sees.

You see, there's something that David knows about the sanctuary and the temple that we don't know.

You see, If we knew what David knew, we would desire what he desired.

If we knew what David saw, if we had beheld what he seen, then we ourselves would be so passionate and so desirous to be in the same place where David desired.

The Bible says, truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

In the Days of Jesus

Dear Father in Heaven, Lord, we want to thank you and praise you for your grace that you have extended again to us.

We are not worthy in any way, shape, or form.

And you've given us this time in the mountains to commune with you and to talk with you, to find our healing and our encouragement and our strength, to have our rebukes.

And we know Lord that because you are our friend, you rebuke us, you chasten us.

And I ask Father that as we study this morning, you give us wisdom beyond our years.

That we may apply knowledge and live a life that is pleasing to you.

We thank you for your love and we pray this in Jesus' name, amen.

So we're gonna begin with our seminar theme song, Ecclesiastes 1, 9, are You ready?

♪ The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be.

♪ ♪ And that which is done, is that which shall be done.

The thing that hath been, It is that which shall be.

So this morning we're going to talk about as it was in the days of Jesus.

I have here on the screen the judgment is set.

And I want you to begin with reading with me in the book of Ecclesiastes, I'm sorry, the book of Psalms, Psalms, the 37th chapter in verse 28.

Psalms the 37th division, beginning at verse number 28.

Notice here what the Bible says in Psalms 37 and verse 28.

The Bible says, For the Lord loveth judgment.

For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints.

They are preserved forever, but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell therein forever.

The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom and his tongue talketh of what?

Whenever I've studied with our people, the Advent people, when we talk about this idea of judgment, it seems to bring fear and trepidation into the hearts of the people of God.

It seems to bring this ominous feeling that if judgment is taking place, then I'm not ready.

But you must understand the purpose of judgment and the heart of God towards judgment.

What does the Bible say God's heart towards judgment is?

Now, if God loves judgment, shouldn't you and I love judgment?

See, the reason why we don't love judgment is because we don't understand the benefit that judgment gives to God's people.

For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints, they are preserved forever, but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

The mouth of the righteous shall speak wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

So if he's talking about judgment, and the law of God is in his heart, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth, what?
