United Prayer Workshop

I'm just so excited about the time we're going to spend together here this morning.

With each Army Bible Camp, we're learning new things and we're constantly improving.

At the last Army Bible Camp, we only had about half an hour, but it was really special.

But this time, and it was off in a room, but this time we're in the main auditorium, which is just such a blessing.

I'm glad so many of you are here, because I believe God wants to use you to take United Prayer back to your homes and churches.

For the first half, I'm gonna be doing most of the sharing, but Melissa may jump in at times if I forget something and then for the second half Melissa will be doing most of the sharing and then I will jump in if she forgets to add in a detail or 2.

This is the 1 workshop that I believe Satan hates the most.

Father, here we are near the end, but there's still yet more to come.

In my opinion, this is 1 of the most important workshops that we can engage in.

Those who need to be here who are on the outskirts, bring them in now.

Father, I pray for your Holy Spirit to be in this session.

Be with the presenters, be with us as receivers, help it to be crystal clear, but even more important than that, help us to be motivated and energized to take it back to our various locales so that this subject and event of prayer can spread throughout the world.

We know that nothing happens without Thee, so come by here and visit us.

And we'll be careful to give you all the praise, honor, and glory.

If you want to read a good book on prayer, read the book, Power of Prayer by Ian Bounds.

In his book, Power of Prayer, he says, prayer is out of date, almost a lost art.

The greatest benefactor this age could have is the man who will bring the preachers and the church back to prayer.

We need to work together to bring the church back to prayer.

John Wesley has said, prayer is where the action is.

I want to share a couple of quotes as it relates to evangelism.

Friends, Melissa and I have had some great talks with Elder Roy Ruggless, And we all believe that evangelism begins on our knees.

Prayer is the real work, evangelism is just the mopping up.

Prayer is really the place where people are 1 to Christ, sharing the good news is just gathering in the fruit.

And this quote has been shared before, comes from evangelism, through much prayer you must labor for souls for this is the only method by which you can reach hearts.

She didn't say it is 1 of the best methods or it's a good method, It is the only method by which we can reach hearts.

It is not your work, but the work of Christ who is by your side that impresses hearts.

In the Praying Church Idea book, we're told that the divorce rate among couples who pray to be Christians is 28%.

The divorce rate among couples who pray together daily is less than 1 tenth of 1%.

What if we came together and started praying?

I came across this book called Couples Who pray.

The author Squire Rushnell and Louise Duarte put together a 40-day prayer challenge and they had 24 test couples.

Now some were married for only 2 years and others were married for as long as 25 years.

And they asked these 24 test couples to just spend 5 minutes a day praying together.

If you're serious about having a happy marriage, can you find 5 minutes a day in your schedule to come together?

It was amazing that within 2 weeks time, all these couples reported back ecstatic with what was beginning to happen in their lives.

Well In this book, they tell about a study carried out by Psychology Today.

They wanted to see if there had been a shift in marital fidelity.

The study called Love and Marriage was carried out by Gallup Poll.

And I want to show you the data resulting from the study.

They're looking at couples who pray a little versus couples who pray a lot.

When it comes to happiness, 60% versus 78% are likely to say their marriage is happy, a difference of 18%.

74% versus 91% say my spouse is my best friend.

If anybody here can say, my spouse is my best friend, can you say amen?

When it comes to family and children, 64% versus 75% say they agree on how children should be raised.

53% of these couples say they try to talk together without interruption.

77% say my spouse makes me feel important.

67% versus 80%, an elevation of 15% say they are satisfied with their sex life, a very great deal or a great deal.

69% versus 78% apply the term ecstasy to lovemaking.

When it comes to delight, 39% versus 69%.

A huge 30% difference agree that my spouse delights in me.

When it comes to stability of marriage, 81% versus 93% agree if they had to do it all over again, they would marry the same person.

I want to encourage all of you to take the 40-day prayer challenge.

What if for the next 40 days our mothers and fathers came together and committed to spending 5 minutes a day?

Family that prays together stays together.

And for those of you who are single, for the next 40 days, you can pray that God will bring into your life a praying person.

In Matthew 21, verse 13, Jesus said, My house shall be called a House of Prayer.

I noticed that you guys down here in the South do have IHOP.

But what's the 1 thing you know they have for sure?

What if you're driving down the street and you see the sign, House of Fried Chicks?

What do you suppose they would serve at that house?

What do you suppose we ought to see in churches?

And in order to have prayer, what do you need?

By the way, A real house of prayer always has a praying pastor without exception.

It doesn't happen without a praying pastor.

So if you want to really see your church, if you want to do more than just have a prayer meeting where United Prayer is going on, you want to just really see a prayer-saturated church, I want to highly encourage this book.

It's 1 of the best manuals I've come across.

If you want to get your pastor involved, you got to start praying for your pastor.

Because unless you can work together, unless he's on board and he's got the vision, it will be a struggle.

What if our churches began praying together?
