Father, I do want to thank you again for the manner in which you lead us in our lives.

And I thank you so much, Lord, because you really don't try to hide things from us.

And Lord, you go through great pains to make things simple for us.

We thank you, Lord, for the things that you have taught us to this point, and we want to thank you for the things you're going to teach us.

Father again we invite your presence, we request it, asking you Lord to forgive us, to cleanse us, to encircle us in your presence, that your bright shining angels Lord will form a ring of fire around this room that the Prince of Darkness will not harass or bother us and Lord I pray that you will give me the words to speak bring to my mind what it is you want me to say and again I I ask your continued blessing upon each year and that they will recognize and be able to receive precisely what you have for them.

Lord I pray that you will hide this humble instrument behind the cross and that Jesus and him only will be magnified, lifted up is our prayer.

You know, as I stand before you here, I don't consider myself an expert at all, not by any stretch of the imagination.

But I enjoy sharing with you the things that I am learning about the Lord and about following Him.

As I mentioned to you before, I'm a very bottom line person.

And if I can't see how to make it work in my life, I'm not interested.

You know they say that children at age 3 enter into the terrible threes where they ask all the questions and I don't think I've come out of that yet.

Speaking of questions, there were 2 asked in our last session that seemed to really, they're still ringing in my mind and I don't know that I satisfactorily answered them, But 1 of them was the idea, was the difference between victory over sin, being in a sinless state and having the character of Christ.

And I want to say that I don't see how those 2, the more I think about it, they're 2 different things but they're connected.

In other words, how am I going to reveal the character of Christ while I'm living in rebellion against him?

And the only way to be in a sinless state is through the power of the Holy Spirit and through Christ's power working in our lives and by beholding we become changed so we're developing more of his character.

So I haven't spent a lot of time, that was a new question for me, I've never quite heard that put to me that way, but the more I think about it we're looking at 2 things but they're 1 thing.

The 2 sides of 1 item, kind of like justification and sanctification.

Then another 1 was asked and that was the idea of whether or not you have to be a Seventh-day Adventist to be saved.

You know, that's a tricky question because in the last days, the devil is going to...

What is the focus of the devil's attack on?

Who's giving the message on the Sabbath today?

Alright, what is the most effective weapon the devil is using today?

The Seventh-day Adventist Church blocks those 2 deceptions.

Are there true-hearted Christians in other denominations?

But as we're nearing the end, their salvation is in jeopardy unless we get to them this information.

Because what's going to block the deceptions when their dead grandmother shows up and starts giving them another line of truth?

What's going to block that if they think that when you die you go straight to heaven?

So in other words, I'm not saying that all Seventh-day Adventists are going to be saved.

But it's the message that we have that the world has got to hear and that's my point.

The world has got to hear that message so they can be ready for translation.

And the message of the hour right now is that we have a high priest in the most holy place who is working to give us victory over the power of sin to reflect his character so that we'll be ready for translation.

And that's the message that prepares the people for the Second Coming of Christ.

What we're going to look at today, We're going to look at the call to pray.

I believe that we are living on the threshold of the second coming of Christ.

You know, we're living in a very unique time in Earth's history because Those who are non-believers recognize the reality that we are living on the verge of a monumental crisis.

But as Bible-believing Christians, We know that behind that crisis is Christ.

So we don't focus on what's coming, but rather on who's coming.

Okay, so we make sense of what is going on.

Everybody else, many are looking around going, there are many honest-hearted people out there that realize something is about to happen.

And we're told through the spirit of prophecy that the final movements are going to be rapid.

And we have not seen the like of that yet, but we're going to.

This thing is going to wrap up quickly by the grace of God.

So the question is how do we maintain our faith through the challenges ahead?

And the way that's going to happen dear friends is through a prayer program.

We were talking about how Adam and Eve before the fall had a connection with God.

Through the fall they lost that connection and through the plan of redemption Jesus came to reconnect us.

Through the word and through prayer we maintain that connection.

And so today we're going to take a look at prayer.

Thank you You know while this being passed out, I just want to share with you, by the way, it's so awesome to see how God leads.

The last time we saw each other was 20 some odd years ago and then we run into each other and we're just amazed to see what God has done in our lives.

But I want to share 1 more thing with you.

I want to introduce to you a very special friend.

But this special friend plays a very special role in my life.

The Call To Persistent Prayer, Part 2

Hey, why don't we go ahead and get started.

A number of you are asking some really good questions.

Make sure to ask them at the very end of our session here So that everyone can benefit from those questions.

You know, when you're told you can only do so many talks, it's actually frustrating because you cannot exhaust the subject.

There is so much to it and your questions are asking me are revealing that fact.

There are a number of books out there that have been very helpful to me on prayer and 1 of them that really got me started is by a woman named Carol Shoemake.

But practical pointers to personal prayer.

If you really want to learn how to develop a devotional life, get started.

She's very practical and it's a beautiful, beautiful talk.

She is the wife of a Seventh-day Adventist pastor, very helpful.

1 thing I do want to warn you about, there's a lot of spiritualism that is hitting us hard out there.

There is a new form of Christianity that is sweeping away the Christian world and it's a combination of Eastern mysticism with Christianity.

But I want to encourage you, There's a book out there called The Omega Rebellion by Rick Howard.

You know, if you stick with your Bible, you're going to bypass this stuff.

When somebody is asking you to repeat the same phrase over and over again, where is that found in the Bible?

Jesus calls it vain repetition like the Gentiles do.

That's where it's found and it's not what we need to be involved in.

Biblical meditation is not emptying your head, it's filling it with the Word.

The Sunday Keepers have an excellent book out as well.

And it's there several but 1 of them is called Faith Undone.

The Baptists are sounding the alarm of what's coming within their ranks.

And in fact the Baptist came out with a book before Omega Rebellion came out.

But if you read the chapter in Great Controversy entitled Can Our Dead Speak to Us?

You're going to really see the issue fleshed out there.

Once you read Omega Rebellion, read that chapter, it's going to blow your mind.

And if you read Faith Undone, it will blow your mind too because you're going to find that God gave us the terminology that the devil is going to be using in the last days.

You know Ellen White said that they will call it a new reformation.

God gave us the terminology long before they were using it.

But no, meditation, Bible meditation is thinking about scripture, it's not emptying your head.

She has another 1 called The Sanctuary Secrets to Personal Prayer.

And we're going to talk about this 1 at the very end, our last session.

I wish my wife was here, because she would not...

And if you're 1 of those like me that you're praying and suddenly you're working on your grocery list and then you're like, oh no, no, where was I?

And the sanctuary prayer will really be a help to you as it has been to me.

In many ways also teaches me how to pray.

Let's go into our next session and this is a very important element of prayer and that is persistence.

You know that when I kneel before God, I am admitting to Him I can't do this without him.

And I'm admitting to him that without his help I have nothing to give you.

So when you walk out of here blessed, don't thank me for anything, but thank him for what he gave you.

Honestly, I am as happy as can be to be invisible.

I just want to see his name glorified and you blessed.

That's not a statement of humility because I am 1 proud individual that God is having to work on.

Savior, I personally want to thank you so much I marvel at that you're goodness why am I surprised.

And thank you for what you have done and what you are doing.

And father we're going to enter into another very important element in prayer and and that is persistence.

And father I believe that there's no there's more you want to say here than what I prepared for.

So I pray you'll get a hold of me and that you will present what you want here, please.

Lord, You know that I'm saying some things and leaving some things undone here because there's so much to cover.

So I pray that through the power of the Holy Spirit you will make up the gaps here and bring understanding to those who are listening.

Father, I'm presenting but I don't know what they're hearing.

I know that you are there and you're speaking to each 1 here and I am grateful for that.

So Lord I need your help especially in this presentation.

I thank you for it and ask it all in Christ's holy and precious name.

Evan Roberts was a young Welsh boy, 13 years old, and he had a dream.

His dream was to be controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Teach Us To Pray: The Model For Prayer, Part 1

Our Father, we gather in this place this morning thanking you again for your goodness and your tender mercies.

Lord, our hearts are encouraged as we come to these meetings, Father, and we're being reminded of your great love, your power to save and to transform.

We thank you, Lord, for the information that we are receiving.

We are also, Lord, grateful for the encouragement we're receiving as we're being reminded that we serve a God that not only hears immediately, but also cares deeply.

I have been humbled to see your working here.

And Lord, I petition for the continuation of that.

Father, All of us are here because we want to hear a word from you.

We want to understand more fully how and what it means to connect with you and to remain connected to you.

And so Lord, we're going to be looking at a couple models of prayer here.

And I pray that you will bring to my remembrance the things you've taught me.

And then Father, I pray too you organize them in a way that your will will be made manifest to each 1, depending on their experience and their place, Lord, at this moment in Earth's history and what's going on in their life, I don't know.

Others may not know, but you and they know.

And so I pray that you'll meet them where they're at and give them counsel and courage, hope and strength.

So, Lord, at this hour, we ask for the outpouring truly of the Holy Spirit in its fullness upon us.

Now shed us in, Lord, to the secret place of the most high.

We wish to sit at your feet and be taught of you.

And we ask it all in the name of our Lord and Savior, our God and King, Jesus.

If you'll open your Bibles to the book of Mark, let's look at Mark chapter 1.

Before we get into that, I've just been reminded, I'd like to share something with you.

You know, I like to pray because I know I'm helpless.

Perhaps it'd be more honest to say some of the times I know I am anyway.

But I'm coming to the understanding more and more of my total dependence upon God for everything.

And by the way, did you know that that brings peace?

If you want to get stressed out, try to work out your own stuff.

But I find I have more and more peace in my life because I can trust God more and I'm learning those wise words from Ellen White, do what is right and leave the consequences with God.

And early in my walk with the Lord, when I began, I think I shared with you when I briefly attempted to take my life in a moment of despair when I was trying to run my own life, I just made a mess of it, and how God stepped in.

But within, it may have been within 30 hours of when the Lord pulled me out of that mess, this piece of paper was brought into my hand.

I dug it out of a trash can at La Sierra College.

A miracle high got me in there within a 24 hour period.

And he swept me off my feet and yes, he put me in La Sierra.

At where I was in life at that time, I couldn't have handled anything else.

And as I pulled this out of a trash can, in 1 of those moments when I was pleading with God that I didn't think I was going to be able to make it.

But I share this with you this morning because I don't know where you are and what you're dealing with.

There is question, this quote is credited to having been written by Ellen White and there's debate on that.

In fact, to our knowledge, we don't think that she did, but nevertheless, the Lord is in it.

Prayer is the answer to every problem in life.

It puts us in tune with divine wisdom, which knows how to adjust everything perfectly.

So often we do not pray in certain situations because from our standpoint the outlook looks hopeless.

Nothing is so entangled that it cannot be remedied.

No human relationship is too strained for God to bring about reconciliation and understanding.

No habit so deep rooted that it cannot be overcome.

No 1 is so weak that he cannot be made strong.

No mind is so dull that it cannot be made brilliant.

Whatever we need, if we trust God, he will supply it.

If anything is causing worry and anxiety, let us stop rehearsing the difficulty and trust God for healing, love, and power.

That was my inauguration to a walk with God.

This morning we're going to look at prayer, and we're going to look at it.

Our introduction is going to be through Jesus.

I don't have that paper in front of me right now.

Mark chapter 1, and let's take a look at verse 35.

And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he, Jesus, went out, departed in a solitary place, and there he prayed.

You know, I kind of wonder, you know he didn't just start that when he got into ministry, that was his habit.

And I can't help but wonder, Jesus waking up long before anyone else did, when it was yet dark and the air was chilled, he would go out of the house, out of Nazareth, and out into the hills there finding his familiar spot perhaps next to a stream.

And I just picture him in my mind's eye sitting down there in that solitary place and closing his eyes, drinking in the sound around him and then opening his heart to his father, beginning to pray.

The disciples, many times when they would wonder where he went, They knew where, they just had to go find him.

And when they would, they would be amazed at the way that he would pray.

Wouldn't you love to have heard 1 of those prayers?

They would just sit there amazed that he communed with his father and he seemed to be totally oblivious to their presence.

And in 1 of those experiences when he was done praying, they looked at him and they asked him a question.

And in response to their request, Jesus taught them the Lord's Prayer.

Alright, We'll go ahead and find our seats.

But let's get back to them, I think would be more accurate, accurately spoken.

I want to encourage you to bring them to the mic here at the very end, because I have learned that if 1 person has to question, others do as well.

Most of you in college, you've figured that out by now.

Because we think we're the only ones that have the question, only to find out that half a dozen others did as well.

I learned that in a sociologist, sociology class.

When I was in college, anything that smelled like extra credit, I was on it like white on rice.

And I had a sociology teacher, you probably did too.

And I can't remember his name, but he gave extra credit for asking questions.

And it was challenging because, Anyway, and so I would, as he was talking and anything would come to my mind that sounded halfway intelligent, I would just write down, you know, this would make a good question, that would make a good question, and sometimes they were, oh yeah, that would be a good question.

And at the very end, I was the only 1 asking all these questions.

But when I walked out, they would say to me, thank you so much for asking, because I was wondering the same thing.

And that's when I began to realize that when I have a question, others really do have the same 1.

So if you have 1, other people do as well, so please feel free to ask.

I'm really excited about our next presentation for many reasons.

What made me interested in the sanctuary is because the answer as to how God is preparing us to go home is found there.

I mean, it's spelled out there, the easiest.

You know, lots of people come to understand righteousness by faith.
