Turning the Hearts of the Children to the Fathers

All right, so you guys have been studying about the Elijah message, beautiful message.

And I would like to discuss an aspect of it, a very practical application of the Elijah message.

And this, This angle came to me several months ago as I was talking with the leadership about what to do.

Several months ago, it just dawned on me.

I've never really seen this aspect of the Elijah message, and it just hit me like, I don't know, 2, 3 months ago.

Now I want to say what I'm about to talk about is gonna be a little bit of a touchy subject.

So, just just want to forewarn you of that, but it's there in the Elijah message, and it's something that I really feel we need to talk about, and that we need to confront if we're going to progress in our relationships with God.

And we're going to read verses 4 through 6.

You've probably read this several times this weekend.

It says, Remember the law of Moses, my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel and with the statutes and judgments.

Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." So there it is.

That's kind of the keynote text of this whole conference that we're having.

You know, the Jews literally believed that Elijah would be resurrected from the dead and go and start preaching to them.

And you can see kind of those sentiments sprinkled throughout the Gospels.

I'm sure you have studied that this week.

So Jesus said that, so we're taking that.

Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before when?

The coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

The angels came, remember, and they were singing, and glory to Hosanna on the highest.

It's the time that Jesus comes as a lion.

The first time he came as a lamb, the second time as a lion.

So John the Baptist, was he around the first coming of Jesus or the second coming?

Well, The context, and I'm not going to get into the whole Bible study, but the book of Revelation lets us know that that's the remnant church.

I want to share with you also a quote from the Spirit of Prophecy.

This is affirmed in the Spirit of Prophecy, in the book Temperance, page 91.

It says, John the Baptist went forth in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way of the Lord, and to turn the people to the wisdom of the just.

He was a representative of those living in the last days, to whom God has entrusted sacred truths to present before the people, to prepare the way for the second appearing of Christ.

So the Remnant Church is the, you could say, the third Elijah.

And I want to focus on what was the message, what's the message, the practical application of their message?

So you can look at Elijah's message, you can look at John the Baptist's message to tell us something about the message we have as well, extra details.

We're gonna look at the message particularly of John the Baptist.

We're gonna see there's 4 parts to it and there's 1 part I really wanna 0 in on.

Turn in your Bibles with me to the Gospel of Luke.

Luke chapter 1 and we're going to start in verse 16.

It says, And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

And he shall go before him in the spirit and the power of Elias, and he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the disobedience to the wisdom of the just to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Notice the first 1 in verse 16, He shall turn many in Israel to the Lord their God.

Part number 2, it's in the next verse, verse 17, He's going to turn the hearts of the children, hearts of the fathers to the children.

And then the third part, the disobedient to the wisdom of the right of the just or righteous, and the last part, make people prepared and ready for the Lord.

Those are the 4 parts of John the Baptist's message summarized right there.

And that is to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and also the hearts of the children to the fathers.

And I wanna make a real practical application of this.

What we see here is that part of the message of John the Baptist was to restore the family unit.

The family is the family unit under attack?

When he sees families coming together, father and mother having evening worship, morning worship, with the little kids singing, he hates that.

He absolutely hates it and he's attacking it with all-out ferocity.

But of the family unit, what member of the family unit was zeroed in on according to this passage.

But he said specifically, it says here, he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children back to the fathers.

You know, if someone has a strained relationship with their 1 of their parents, you know who it's going to be?

If someone says, oh, they're a single parent, what do you assume the gender of that single parent is?

So it's rare for there to be a single parent and have it be a man.

And here's my thesis, I'll just let the cat out of the bag right now.

Repairing your relationship with your father is part of the Elijah message.

Repairing your relationship with your father, that's part of the intention of the Elijah message.

It's an important part of preparing for the second coming of Jesus.
